Given Dionysus was a god who induced madness and his cult members had a ritual of tearing animals and humans apart, he's the last person to be a camp counselor. Although, that would be a testament to how little the Greek gods care about their kids. Given Ares actually cared about his kids, was polite at parties, and got angry if the other gods wronged his kids, he'd make a better camp counselor.
Seeing Jason Mantzoukas like this, really saddens me of how great Close Enough could have been if TBS didn’t cancel it after leaving it in development limbo for so long and then only giving it 3 seasons
He’s such an ass, but he’s hilarious! The only thing that would’ve made this better is if they included his line from the book about science being “mumbo jumbo,” it was one of the funniest lines in the book.
That is a PERFECT casting for Dionysus! Jason Mantzoukas can depict a drunkard with ease. But he's also a good looking seductive presence that also fits why people fell for Dionysus. 😊
Who do you think they'll get to play Ariadne? I know she was only mentioned once in the third book by Dionysus, referred to once in the fourth book by Theseus (he didn't even say her name), and that we saw her briefly with Dionysus at the end of the third book, but I still think they should include her. I want to see his performance in the scene talking about how another son of Poseidon abandoned the woman who had given up everything to help him and left her on an island to marry her younger sister.
I'd still love to know why Hestia isn't the one in charge of Camp. Dionysius is the last person who should be taking care of traumatized and struggling child soldiers.
I have many, MANY, issues with the casting choices for this show, but this one is absolutely perfect. when I read the books I always pictured Dionysus looing like this.
In terms of acting, Dionysus, Ares, Poseidon and Zeus were played perfectly, as in book. Hades is made too chill and upbeat, he feels rather more like Hermes character blended with his, like deals and him saying cupcakes and rainbows. Hephaestus is a bit meh, he’s not as remote and focused on mechanics as his book self, and he feels once more not like a god should. As for looks wise, Ares good, Poseidon good though could do with more beachtype wear since he is described as such, Zeus apart from a race change and loss of beard looks how I imagine, that sort of cold, ruthless and arrogant CEO vibe, Hades good though a big let down from the epic book description, Dionysus perfect. I do wonder how they will do other gods like Artemis and Apollo, Artemis for instance is gonna be tricky, she is in the form of a 12 year old, but is serious, scary, man hating, and not one to make jokes. She also is slightly manipulative considering how she isolated Bianca to recruit her, and should convey the fact that if Percy makes one wrong move or even looks at her funny she will kill him.

I think it’s funny that out of all the Greek gods and figures, Dionysus is the only one played by someone of actual Greek descent.
The most accurate portrayal of Dionysus I have ever seen and he’s hilarious.

The “But did you!” Delivery was perfect
Cousins!
Dionysus would totally be a messed up cop after being undercover for so many years
They could always have Stephanie Beatriz make a cameo as his wife Ariadne.
lol yes b99 pimento!
Hah! I was searching for this.. I still hear Pimento when he speaks 😂😂😂
You should have titled this “Dionysus having beef with Peter Johnson”
That's what I read it as. 😭
My thoughts exactly
Missed opportunity for the OP, but my traitorous mind did the work for me when I saw the title of the video.
Anyone who wants to read about why he hate him so much for no reason, read the third book.
His conversations with Percy in the last three episodes were really great and really elevated the character
I think there would be few changes to Dionysus' character if they keep up with the TV Series' characterization.
Ahh, so this is where Pimento's been hiding nowadays.
"who stole it"
"You did😃"
"WHAT 🤨😧?" *I cant😭*
1:35 The way they both turn around in sync is amazing. I don't know why. It just is.
FR!!!
I’m looking forward to a ‘Wine Dude’ moment. The book readers among you will understand what I’m on about,
Yes yes yes yes
Also, something Dionysos really SHOULD tell Percy - "I ended up marrying the girl who was dumped by your brother Theseus."
Seeing Jason Mantzoukas like this, really saddens me of how great Close Enough could have been if TBS didn’t cancel it after leaving it in development limbo for so long and then only giving it 3 seasons
This is the perfect actor to play Dionysus.
YESSSSSS! Pimento is perfect for Mr D. Spot on casting!
0:35 killed me 😂 i love that scene so much but the music made it even better 😂
Man Jason Mantzoukas is killing it as Dionysus.
Did no one realize that he said it’s normal for fathers to talk to their sons only after getting them a drink
Just wait until Titans Curse...oooh boy its proof he's a force to be reckoned with.
He’s such an ass, but he’s hilarious! The only thing that would’ve made this better is if they included his line from the book about science being “mumbo jumbo,” it was one of the funniest lines in the book.
Why do they imply he has nothing to do without wine? He's also the god of drama - he should be running the camp's theater program!
Have you ever tried running a theater sober?
@Spacey_key😂
It's clear that the literal god of alcohol is too sober for this.
This dude was the best choice for Dionysus. Only things I knew him from was Big Mouth and Invincible and man he still blew me away with this.
Wow Mr D got GROVER's name right. What a good god looking after his satyrs XD
Dionysus having beef with a twelve year old child.
This is hilarious, I cannot 😂😭
One of the greatest scene ever I died laughing
"Peter Johnsonn ? .I love his Swords ! ."
This was the 2nd best casting choice in the series, the first being Ares.
When a
Watching Percy Jackson, my friends and I basically died of laughter when he said “son”. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dionysus looks like he's gonna make some round tipped nuclear weapons to a certain eccentric middle eastern dictator
but it has to be pointy or else it look like a hughe d*dlo
funny fact: Chiron is Dionysus's mentor and trainer too, he was a demigod soo
That is a PERFECT casting for Dionysus!

Stopp the part where it went "Now look at me and this opportunity" is my form when we have a sub💀

“Excuse me, Your Highness”
Season finale just ended and he never once threatened to turn Percy into a dolphin. 0/10.
He looks like Alex from close enough turned into a Margarita Vampire
This almost makes me want to watch this series😂
adrian pimento?
D in Mr. D is not "Dionysius", but Derek.
I have many, MANY, issues with the casting choices for this show, but this one is absolutely perfect. when I read the books I always pictured Dionysus looing like this.
thank you so much for this video
Roger has Athena ♎
On the Right Shoulder.
雅典娜。♎
Damn pimento in b99 was mrD the whole time? 😮
as I watched all I think about is Pimento lol but this is exactly how I pictured him from the books.

Kinda wish they got Stanley tucci back as Dionysus
Pimento’s dreams:
Both hilarious and sinister
Peter Johnson better watch himself. The Wine Dude isn't messing around here.
Bald guy is Chiron?tf
Now I have a beef with how Mr D acts about Percy's quest , kinda ooc.
Holy shit that's OG Jesus
I feel like this was Riordan's way of saying "aight I was downplaying the gods a bit in the books let me make up for it" and so far he has
Now i just see dionysus pertending to be the father of every kid who's father is a god
When he said who's sally jackson i pictured him bleeding in the ankles because I'm biting his shins
Oh look, it's the writer guy who looked like a hobo from Close Enough.
He's so cringy I love him 😂
Heyyyy wonderful video. Hi. 👏👏👏👏👏
Father Zeus' ♎ Omega ♎.
Who’s Sally Jackson 😂
It's that guy from Brooklyn 99.
One friend of mine said they wanted Mr. D to be their grandad or somethin
What the heck? It's been forever since I watched the movies but I could've sworn Percy and grover looked ALOT different, and older!
Detective Pimento?!!
Derrick
What's the point the booze is just gonna turn into water 😂
Is this where pimento went when he had to go into hiding
Pimento?
Ok they got Dionysus right
Knockoff of PJO would be Peter Johnson son of Dionysus
