Ken Block’s 730HP “TURBO MONSTER” - 1st Test of the Insane Audi Sport Quattro Replica!

- Опубліковано 19 вер 2022
- After debuting my Audi Sport Quattro replica “Turbo Monster” last year in Hoonigan’s RING LEADERS ( • Ken Block’s Ultimate S... ) and at SEMA in Toyo Tires booth, we had a long year of fine tuning some details in the car: from a custom exhaust from Borla for the 730+ horsepower inline-5 turbo engine, to fine tuning hand-brake location, and even registering the car complete with the custom CARCAIN(E) license plate. NOW we‘re finally able to give the Sport Quattro its first proper test at Willow Springs Raceway in Southern California. Full throttle pulls, i5 turbo exhaust sound music-to-ear science (thanks again Borla), handbrake slides, figure 8's, donuts, tire smoke (and a wheel lockup issue); the stress gets put on. After all, the goal here is to have a reliable (and hoon-capable; because when’s the last time I didn’t Hoon Test anything I drive regularly??) daily driver. Enjoy!!

Truly a once in a lifetime talent, you will be missed man❤
One of the best comments I've read. I haven't felt this way since Feb 18 2001
And I wad a Senne fan and watched that May 1994 race. Saddest weekend I've seen at a track
Ken passed while I was at basic training. I still remember the day when one of my friends opened and letter from home and broke the news that he had passed, one of the worst days of my life. Watching this is hard i’m gonna be honest. He was such a special person.
@@jakes1235 How did you know him so well? Was he family?
4 sure the best there was RIP
As a Ken Block and Audi fan separately, I can’t get enough of this partnership
same, it’s the perfect partnership!
Broooo... forreal!! Love it!
Match made in heaven brother.
@@bOOmbOOmProd been in love with the 07k for years now, i know this aint no 07k but god damn i want it
💯
The lines of the Audi Sport Quattro are some of the best from the 80's. Proper wide body panels, 5 cylinder turbo and AWD. This was a driver's car. What a unit.
A small correction, one of the best from all history
The sound mixing by the editors is so on point. That turbo 5 sounds amazing
My heart rate accelerated with the engine when he launched it
5 cyl's unique sound comes from its musical equivalent - a 'major third' - that's why they sound so pleasing. V10s too of course still with that dominant major third but have an additional 'perfect fifth' companion (a perfect fifth is the dominant two tone you get from a 6 cyl). V12s - all of the above. (Not forgetting V8s of course which combine the perfect fifth with octave companions giving them the distinctive burble)
I want an rs3 now
This is the most confident and present on camera I think Ken has been in his entire career. I would joke that zach's been rubbing off, but fr shows the man is putting in work everywhere, big props.
Huh? He’s had a camera in front of him his entire career and always done fine. He’s just a laid back dude.
@@dcskate1022 what he’s getting at is that Ken seems a lot more light and humorous as opposed to his normal on camera personality. He’s still chill but it’s the genuine joy and interest shining thru that normally you don’t see cause he’s too focused on the race or seems like there’s something else he has to do
@@Idiotresponsibly agree, I've been a Block fan for over 20 years (still wear DC's to this day) but he's always lacked enthusiasm, which Zach has.
If you watched Fantasy Factory to when he got with Brian and Hoonigan, to now
You would realize he's much more comfortable with a camera in his face
sit your ass in a 700+horsepower quattro and I bet you feel the same way my guy 😎😎
Rip ken
There are a lot of car sounds that I love but nothing gives me goosebumps like a Sport quattro, this is absolutely amazing!
I grew up in Germany in the 80s and wanted one of these so bad. Had to settle for the UR-Quattro instead, best car I ever had. That 5 cylinder was bulletproof.
LCE Performance, who are the builders of this beautiful beast, deserve way more credit than they were given in this video. Maybe I missed it but I didn’t hear / see their name mentioned once. Share the love, Ken!
especially since this was their own company flagship car
They did get credit in the form of a fat ass check. They got paid.
Germany shop?
@chrisking they did in the lunch video they did
@@joshstane5926 they make these quattro replicas in Germany
Ken and Jeremy renner in the same video hits hard right now
I really like seeing this side of things. I'm so used to seeing Ken just killing it that it's kind of refreshing to see it not working. I know that has a lot to do with the car. It's just nice to see that doing what Ken does takes a lot of work with some trial and error.
That exhaust is a thing of beauty
The people down in Oxnard did a good job.
Have one on my Hemi.
the sound of this thing just gives me the goosebumps 😂😂😂😂 i’m a total Audi geek😂 i’m so glad you are in this car Ken!!!!! can’t wait for the future stuff you do with Audi!
Agree this sounds sick
Like that Borla Stuff, but in germany they didn't haver permission for a street car.
I like all the square body cars like the BMW e30 also even an peugeot 106 rally
This is the best sounding car hes had yet!
A legend of a man in a legendary car
RIP Ken
As a inline 5 cylinder owner, you've audibly made me salivate
Nothing beats a turbo i5 sound like ya the v10s and v12s sound good but i5T just have the most unique noise around
@@lucasschmitz4588 I dont knooooow.... I feel like a N/A non-vtec 1.5L Honda 4-cylinder from the late 1980's w/ a rusted-out 3" exhaust deserves some recognition (or else one will drive by your house smashing the limiter at the exact moment you're about to finally fall asleep)
@@von... lol no hondas sound like nothing but ass and never will sound good most inline 4 sound like ass
@@von... oh and no honda can make it to where i live theyll get stuck at the bottom of the hill
I have a inline 5 Volvo 850 straight piped it sounds great if i had a turbo would be even better
Love how you guys are digging deeper and deeper into these, first it was behind the scenes of filming, then the build breakdown and car release, now its test and tune.
As an Audi owner/enthusiast @3:53 the quattro logo in the defrost element is amazing! Great job guys beautiful car!
Best part of owning an old quattro! It's functional too
its a orgin! and lce hast actual the last 6 windows for them. look at the youtube channel of lce you find a video (3 days old) with all actual under construction sport quattros.
pS: the new turbo monster is green (kens car was red)
That 5cyl has a crazy low-frequency harmony that just doesn't exist anywhere else. It's like if Simon and Garfunkel were baritones. It...also makes a shit ton of power.
In the finest silver lining you could possibly find its amazing to see how much the community has come truely together in honoring this legend
Rest in peace legend. The greatest of all time, gone too soon.
Excellent stuff. And having Zachary along is always great.

@@badlakoni your comment sir is excellent stuff
RIP Ken the legend you will be missed by many , your daughter will keep your name in the fast lane and get some wins for you.👍🇺🇸🍻
As a Audi 100 5 cylinder owner, this is the best engine sound on the planet.
The whistlemagees, the rrratatatas, the flutterydoos, so friggin beautiful
I can fall asleep listening to the swishing, gurgling, and high-pressure blowoff this masterpiece is making! It's music to my ears. I love how Ken gets in and immediately plants his foot down wasting no time, my man!
Ken Block's just casually walking around day to day living my dream
I literally was in slc, detailing a coupe quattro from a legit classic Audi enthusiast in UT who showed me the shortblock for a coupe quattro /s1 build he left me to my work polishing HIS version of this car to go drop off to hoonigan in PC utah. Somewhere back in the past years ago. I got to see the dream before anyone aside from whomever at hoonigan wanted it and my friend dave. Id like to think they actually built it and im seeing it YEARS later. This was YEARS ago. The 5 cyl audis are the best sounding audis ever. I own 5, 4 really built. Biturbos, BIG turbos. No VR6, no AAN 5 cyl yet. But man. What a memory for me. Bittersweet now. Made the drive past that place almost daily for years and ALWAYS was waiting for this video to drop. PC utah. Best snow on earth
Great to see Ken back on Hooingnan. More on Ken's racing please.
Possibly one of the most beautiful cars I’ve seen and heard 😍
Nice to see Ken back in a proper motor. That 5cyl sounded awesome, but yeah that understeer he mentioned was clearly visible
Ken’s saying there’s not enough front diff. He effectively snap oversteered.
@@thats_absrd yeah his next runs will be perfect though you can tell he knows hes gonna kill it

This is the greatest compilation we never asked for but needed THANK YOU... I want a Quattro rally spec in my life I need one of these replicas
This car is full of life the sound is so eventful all the whistles and rawness is so cool
This engine sound is amazing!
Vamos a extrañar demasiado a esta leyenda
Ken and Zack y'all rock! Love the channel and content! Love the sound of that Audi inline 5 turbo! I'm here for the algorithm! Peace
My friend had on of these Audi's back in high school, it wasn't built up or anything, just a regular one. It had a very small trunk and we had to kick his subwoofer box with two 12s to get it to go in but that shit hit hard, all the bass just came into the cabin.
Front outside tire not spinning during doughnuts. Maybe you need to bring audi a double locking diff. Spinning out second gear entry with square tire footprint usually means front heavy. Unless that front was never spinning and just anchored you during the first test. From the rewatch, I would say you have too much tire for the diff. Over torqued the diff clutch. Carcaine paint scheme, love it.
all depends on what they have in it for differentials. if still stock the front is still 100% an open differential especially if the car still retains the RS2 01E 6 speed LCE put in it. that would also mean a torsen center differential with 60/40 bias. rear differential could be anything from an original small chassis with manual locker to a custom fit later differential with open diff or a V8 torsen factory LSD differential. either way all these parts are very robust and will take the abuse for a long time before failure.
the car is too powerful to go backwards to an 016 gear box to get the manual locker center with 50/50 bias. ken would shear the input shaft off no problem as the car makes 150-200 more hp than the 016 can support.
To take a gymkhana ride with Ken block is my #1 bucket list item
I was at Ojibwe Nationals when Travis crashed. Super tough course. So stoked to see those guys and looking forward to LSPR. Ken is always fun to watch
Nice to See a German Legend Audi with one of the best German drivers signiture on the Dashboard. Greatings from Germany
This is all fun and good, but I'd love to see you rip this thing at speed on the track. Hitting all the curbs, all the rumble exits, as only a Quattro can do!
Every day I love this car more 😍
Great setup, amazing Group-B style machine 🚗
Reminds me of growing up in the 80',with the group b monsters. The audi quattro is my favourite car. Luckily met Ken block at Lydden Hill 2017, what a nice man.
Ken that's for sharing this Audi series with us. Met you again at another STPR event and forgot to tell you. So thanks again!
The sound 🤯
Rest in piece to the person who made me become a Car guy ❤️😞
i love how all of his builds are as functional as they are sick
@ 2:27 - KB43 -"I wish I had more time" - we miss you sir - forever !
That’s one of the best sounding engines ever. It’s definitely up there with a RB and a JZ
I am a v8 lover myself but I can’t help but also love the sound of an inline 5 or a V10
The Audi 5cyl Turbo motor has such a destinctive sound. Love it!
Thank you for sharing! Awesome video! Love it!!!
Love these cars. I own a fully build S2 with 034 internals big turbo and it sounds mean. Not as cool as this replica but still a dream car for me. Congrats on the car. Hope we get to see it more.
I loved it when I filmed it last year when it was red, and love it as much when its white ☺
This Audi and Ford RS 200 are my favorite cars from Ken's garage..
(well of course except the hoonicorn & hoonitruck, Mk2 Escort & Cossie)..
The sound mixing by the editors is so on point.
Oh what a beauty! Glad to be early to this fresh upload. Never stop hooning!
Hats off to Borla!

@@Kalcijs777 No, the engine sounds really good stock, but that exhaust is adding another level of growl and spit.

Ive allways loved this modell. Its timeless and super cool. Sounds amazing.
Finally somthing with sound and a fuel fed motor!! Thank you, awesome car as well, love the sound and color! Awesome Daily 👌
For some reason my mind went to "We need a retro styled modern release of this style of car" and then a blast from the past popped in my head, a Dodge Conquest.
Ken needs to make that quattro a rally car to compete in next year
Pls nooo 😂😂 newer audis is not ready for todays rallys and older audis, was death machines, it handles like shit, they won rallys because, drivers had big balls, had 4wd, and lots of power for those days
@@mariusdudenas2628 The cossie never was a rally car before ken and hoonigan made it a rally car so why can't they the quattro
My family had one of these when I was a kid. It had been modified with a larger turbo and manually adjustable waist gate, lowered, stiffened and was fast a ..... ya... fast. My brother wore out in one weekend a set of Z rated tires on a trip from Utah to Yosemite national park averaging 160 mph with a lunch stop. The tires were worn to the cords right down the center when they arrived back home. Love the Quattro. The front and rear lockers at a pull of a button... awesome, the "4 wheel suspension steer"... awesome. Kickin car!
A retro modern built race car.... I love Ken. Dude does things not because they make since, but because it's cool. Thank God for people like this.
Бля..ь! Аж голова закружилась от его выкрутасов! Красавчик ,Кен! Пусть земля тебе будет пухом! Скорбим!
Rip Love you Ken
Oh, MY, GAWD!!!! I knew I was gonna like this, but...the NOISES! Amazing.
Had an 84 Audi gt back in the day loved it this is a beautiful car
Id be interested in a behind the scenes of the mechanics/engineers working on the car to further develop it. Would be a killer series. Diagnosing the issue with the front passenger wheel, finding a way to put more power to the front, etc. Keep it up guys! Love the content.
I like to imagine seeing Ken in the turbo monster on the streets of Utah pulling a big backie around a hairpin.
Go to any car show in Britain and you will see equal good cars leaving car shows sliding around every corner they see
Yes glad this channel's posting again
I never comment but this has to be one of the most legendary sounds i've heard from a car MY GOD...
ken needs to do a drag week in it with zac lol
Ken, if you haven't figured it out yet, Audi's problem has always been the 50/50 torque split between front and rear diffs. While its perfect for fast times, it not ideal for having fun in. If you can get it to 40/60 front/rear, it should solve the issue.
It's not a problem. You just go around it, hence the scandinavian flick. The newer B7 RS4 gearbox has better rear distribution, but I guess they already have better centre differentials in this one :)
Since 2012 all models are 40:60
It can go 20:80 or 80:20 when sliding..
Que sti tranny/dccd swap
It’s a five cylinder symphony with that Borla exhaust.
killer vid, thanks guys, appreciate the hardwork out there haha🙌🤘🙌
He should of let Zach rip it! He died a little inside lol such I perfect build!
Ken talks so mellow and calm like you don't expect this guy to drive like a fucking savage.
THIS is why I will always be excited and interested when Ken builds or buys a car. He drives them hard and it sure makes for great entertainment 👌
Yeah!!!! Yoo I’ve missed seeing Ken on here man this is awesome he makes the videos way more interesting because you never know what’s comin but you know it’s gonna be lit‼️

Great car, with fantastic sound. Good luck getting it right.
Ur quattro has always been the daddy.🔥👌group b was a crazy time and will always be remembered for that 5 pot sound.💪🎶🇬🇧
Finally!!!! The video I was waiting for sins this monster was released to the public. Daaammnn!🥵
The engine and turbo sounds amazing🇬🇧
That car is notorious for being hard to control in corners, it goes from understeer to oversteer and back. Guess the short wheelbase and front heaviness is partly the blaim. In any case, that car looks absolutely killer, sounds like a beast, and it's nice to see it create some smoke like that.
Awesome Quattro❤.
Thanks Ken.
Greetings from Bavaria/Germany🍻
Very nice car love the exhaust system set up . Borla 🏁💪😎
He genuinely made every car a one of one. I love that about him, incredible.
That sound echoing in the middle of the night, in a British forest in the early 80's, had you grinning like a madman 😜
I’m sorry but I ain’t even done with the video yet but I gotta say whoever setup that cut for each gear shift needs a raise or a medal or something, this is just what the doc ordered to spiff up my day!
Guessing it was Hank from Iroz motorsport.
Damn this Thing Sounds good. Thats one hell of a Carcain Dose!
Has Ken been working on his neck muscles??? Holy shit! Stacked man!!
I've always thought he had a big neck. All the racing and fighting the Gs on top of helmets being bulky, his neck has akways been worked out
Absolute dream car! Looks like the shorter wheel base is taking a little while to get used to!
That Sound Is Beautiful
I was so excited to see where this would go, rest in peace, Ken.
