  • Arguably the Prius has already been mainstream for quite a while, but the v will help solidify the name as a brand. Perhaps now the world is even ready for a Prius crossover...
    www.autoguide.c...
    Having achieved mainstream recognition and appeal, what's holding the Prius back from greater success is no longer what's under the hood, or the car's perception by consumers, but the packaging it's wrapped in.

    Ive been in the car business for years from technician to service and in between. The prius is a great car. Its people like you that are the reason why gas companies have us by the balls and gas is so expensive. Why hate on a car that saves people who arent wealthy so much money, my friends and i make middle class money and i spend 80 a week on gas, fill the tank every week and they fill once a month. Thats a no brainer choice imo.

    My wife likes the mileage I get with my 2008 Prius but wanted a little more space and a little more luxury. Bingo, this car is it. Just bought one, will take delivery Wednesday. Haters can go ahead and hate Prii, but I LOVE filling mine up for about $12 a week as compared to my old gas guzzler!

    I drive a prius, but mine is a 2008 model. All in all, I love the car. GREAT sound system! It always make driving that much less of a pain. I never was a fan of the shape of the car..but it's not too bad. I love only have to spend $20 at the pump. It's a great car, I don't see why people diss on it so much.

    i bought a prius 2 years ago when gas was almost 4$ a gallon, 45 MPG and im laughing at the suckers at the pumps with their big SUV and trucks, 25$ gives me a full tank and i can get close to 400 milles on a tank city and alot more on the HWY

    You can buy a 2004 Prius in good condition for around $7K now. Even with the low chance of needing to buy a new battery pack soon after purchase, would only be $2000 or so and you can install it yourself.

    Well first of all, the warranty on a hybrid is 10years/150,000 miles in some states where it matters the most. And have you done some research lately? You can find a 3rd gen prius battery now for $700 the most. That's half the price of a replacement engine inside a honda civic.

  • @danwat1234
    @danwat1234 11 років тому

    Where did you hear that? The battery only weighs about 70 pounds (check out the specs online). Once the battery wears out it is shredded and recycled into new batteries so the energy used in mining the Nickel is only once.

    It's totally your choice but the Prius has a larger carbon footprint as compared to another car because of the process involved in making and mining for the materials involved in the battery making.

    i hate being a teenager that is a risk on the roads because of my stupid driving style. I love Camaro's and Mustangs and all things fast and torquey, but, I think the time has come for me to trade in the racing shoes and step into a Prius. It'll save me money on gas, insurance, tickets and probably will be a smoother more soothing ride.

    Next time your prius can haul my boat or trailer let me know. I also get 28 mpg now that is not 50 but considering I can haul 9000lbs, the body is by no means aerodynamic, and most importantly it makes 420hp I consider it much, much more useful.

  • @danwat1234
    @danwat1234 11 років тому

    There are very few reports of needing new battery packs so far for 2nd gen (2004+) and newer Priuses. We'll see in the coming years how long they really last. A new battery is around $2000 and then you can install it. I think you'd still end up saving a lot of money with gas savings.

  • @bwheel012
    @bwheel012 13 років тому

    @ytj22 since cars are used to drive I assume versatility would mainly include WHERE one could drive. If you are a grandpa, versatility apparently includes cup holders, trunk space, and mirrors in the visors. Trunk space is trunk space-----more of the same doesn't make it versatile. Versatility implies adaptability. Storing more things is not what I consider versatility.

  • @bwheel012
    @bwheel012 13 років тому

    @Arsen989 again, what's so versatile about it? It doesn't have a ton of space for seating OR storing things. There's no way it performs well in snow or rain conditions. The reason I can compare these two vehicles is because they are two different vehicles. That's the point. Why does one buy a vehicle? So he can drive places. Not just to pick the kids up from school------There's more to the world than the pavement. And there's more important things in life than worrying about mpg.

  • @danwat1234
    @danwat1234 11 років тому

    No the battery pack only weighs about 70 pounds. After a couple hundred thousand miles that energy used and the emissions created from making that battery pack will be very minimal.

    I highly doubt you'd be at anyone's "ass" when at the red light. I'm guessing the V8 joke was towards muscle cars...but yeah you know...I'd rather have a Mustang>Prius ANYDAY.
    Screw MPG, if the car just isn't fun to drive, then there is no use on buying it. Especially on tuning. There is no point to have if it won't let us modify the car to whatever extent we want. If you want to save gas...sure go ahead. But if my Lancer can get 36MPG and still be more fun than a Prius...still worth it.

  • @bwheel012

    @ytj22 its not my very own definition-- its the dictionary definition. Jeeps havent been around for 70 years for no reason. They are quality product. They are American designed. I also don't get made fun of like I hear people make fun of those who drive a prius. I get complimented almost every day on how freakin sweet my jet black jeep is. Nobody is going to go out of their way to tell you how cool a prius is.

But yeas the Model S is already out and its a family car it has room to fit 5 adults and another option that can make it so you can also have 2 extra kids and thats all in a sadan. But they are making a more of a crossover style car like the size of a prius v called the model x.

  • @danwat1234
    @danwat1234 11 років тому

    Where is your data? Don't try to state that landrover/Hummer vs Prius study. It is very very flawed.
    When the battery does wear out, it is shredded and made into new batteries, a similar process to how the lead acid accessory battery it uses is recycled. So the energy used in mining the Nickel for the battery and neodymium for the electric motors is only once.

    @DBZmusicboy01 -- If you look into it instead of listening to uninformed BS, you'll find battery failure under 250,000 miles is EXTREMELY rare. When they do fail, people are installing salvaged and / or aftermarket batteries for about $1500. There are plenty of these cars on the road with 300,000+ miles and no major repairs. BTW, the wife is getting about 48 MPG in real world driving with her Prius v, I'm getting 52+ MPG with my 2008. I'm in the USAF, and LIKE spending less on foreign oil!

    gallons, feet, cubic feet etc. Guys why don't you just adapt to the world's SI units. It makes communcation and conversion much more easier.
    look at this:
    1 US.liq.gal. = 4 liquid qt. = 8 US.liq.pt. = 16 US.cup = 32 US.liq.gi. = 128 US.fl.oz. = 231 inch³ = 3,785411784 Liter
    1 US.dry.gal. = 4 US.dry.qt = 8 US.dry.pt = 268,8025 inch³ = 4,40488377 Liter
    1 in = 1″
    = 1000 Thou = 1000 mil = 1/12 ft = 1/36 yd = 25,4 mm = 2,54 cm = 0,254 dm = 0,0254 m. ;and there is also a survey inch..

But it does have front and rear lockers and can go wherever it pleases. Im a country boy so I like to hunt. I surf and take treks up the beach. A prius doesn't have what it takes to do those things.

    i'll admit, for the longest....i always thougth that Toyota Prius's were overpriced pieces of Sheet.... Where you'd have to own it for 10 yrs just to make up the premium you had to pay for buying Hybrid. while some of that is still true & i don't know that i could be too sold on a car that is super slow (currently drive a V8 sedan). looking at the price of a Prius V (have seen some available in teh low 20K range. the versatility & fuel economy is impressive (made me consider)

    I know hybrids and better yet plug-in hybrids care are NOT the perfect solution but they are in the short term (2025-2030.) a step in the right direction! Gas cars are playing their part to the heating of our planet! Until battery technology is develop enough to make cars ALL electric. That can go over 100 miles on charge and takes less than 10 minutes to fully charge up again! Plus making charging points MORE common that Gas (petrol) stations! A Toyota Prius V hybrid will do for now!!!

  • @liljay300000
    @liljay300000 11 років тому

    Except for the fact that your doing more damage than a Land Rover Discovery. If someone was smart they would go with a car like the Tesla Modal S which uses Lithium ion batteries which don't require strip mining to make. Also the cars can travel over 200 miles on one charge it only takes about 30 minutes to get a 150 mile charge at there super charge stations which isnt that long and you can charge the car fully over night. It also actually has power.

    @SVTRaptor62 You must mean the Mazda 3 that gets 28/40 and hauls 11.8 cubic feet of cargo instead of 44/40 and 34.3 cu. ft. of cargo? This hauls more than most crossovers and gets *way* better mileage than the highest mpg Mazda. Try the Jetta Sportwagon TDI if you don't like hybrids.
