  • We spent the duration of the solar eclipse at Mineola capturing many trains. Although it wasn’t a total solar eclipse, it did get 90% covered, and you can detect some dimming of the sunlight. It looks somewhat like an evening sky as opposed to a midday sky. Once the eclipse ended after 4:30pm we headed over to Merillon Avenue and New Hyde Park stations to capture fast trains on the “Triple Track”. We also captured a few heavy planes over the station at New Hyde Park. The sun was much brighter at this time than it was between 230pm and 430pm.

Oh, I had no idea I was doing that. Are you studying for conductor or engineer?

Assistant Conductor, I start on the trains next week and qualify in about a year as a conductor, that's when I have to draw out the railroad, but its my understanding they've made it easier recently.

FUN FACT: Contrary to popular belief, Mineola is NOT the seat of Nassau County. Garden City is.
The County Courthouse and administration are in Garden City, but have a Mineola mailing address. In fact the border between Mineola and Garden City runs right through the front lawn of the courthouse.

Cannot believe the big deal they made of the eclipse when only about 2% of the country actually saw anything looked like a normal day in Florida here. What a nice mix of trains and planes. That channel I sent you on messenger the guy in South Florida that does live trainspotting that was Sunday at Miami international airport never seen so many Airbus 380s and they were constant tomorrow morning he's on live at 10:00 a.m. at fort Lauderdale international airport. I know you guys have JFK but man is Miami international busy and I live by Orlando international

One thing I noticed in the eclipsed sunlight at the start of the peak was the ghost images of the locomotive headlights. Your camera noticed, but the eclipse wasn't that noticeable to my eyes.

While the eclipse was real cool, I thought it would get darker than what it did.

That Singapore flight to JFK is officially the longest nonstop flight in the world, I believe. I know they run one to Newark, too, but JFK is slightly farther in distance.
