Thank you Scott for posting. I still watched your video and picked up a few pointers with the navigation that I hadn’t figured out on my own. 😀 Please keep up the great work. I really do learn so much from you!
Had my pencil and paper out yesterday doing my planning. Perfect timing for this video. When you noted that it links to my PC, you had me hooked! Thank you for the information!!😊😊😊
I'm a pencil to paper type of person (and an artist) so I enjoy drawing my garden out each year and all the flower beds surrounding it. I have a big thick journal and each year I re-draw my garden and write down where each plant is planted. Along the way I draw pictures of the different flowers and plants, any interesting bugs I come across and even my chickens, cows, etc. When I get to the end of this journal I will buy another and have this one on my bookshelf. I also prefer to go out into my garden without my phone, for peace of mind and time to myself. But to each their own and that's what makes the world interesting, isn't it.
Honestly i was struggling with my planing this year and was looking for a better way..............so i downloaded the app! I will play with the free version for now and if it works then i will upgrade. Thanks for dragging a boomer along on your journey.
I have had the free version of this app for over a year. I had no idea that I could add different varieties. You convinced me to sign up for the lifetime subscription. Thanks Gardener Scott! 😊
Thanks for another informative video I've been using a planning app since 2015, and find it very helpful both for each year and copying/planning year over year. Plus it gives me something do to in Feb when there's snow on the ground and I'm entertaining myself with seed catalogs...
I used this app too! Helps plan when to start plants too! Nice recommendation! EDIT: I was using the free one, but for a 25% off lifetime subscription? I am sold!
Suggestion: add the year to the name of bed, then you can look back at what was in that bed by year. You could also use spring and fall in the description if you replant the beds. I just bought the lifetime subscription. Looks like it will be useful and a time-saver!
It would be great to be able incorporate user watering times and rates. As well as soil pH values, sunlight times, harvest values, etc…I think that info being used by the developer would be invaluable to the garden community as it will help guide others to get the most effective harvest based on environmental conditions. Somebody in another area, but with similar sun and water might determine they need to amend their soil more with a certain nutrient. Very exciting app nonetheless!
Wonderful! I'm going to try this out. My hands are such that I find myself skipping my journal after gardening and then I don't write things down. By the time I'm ready to take notes, I'm up in bed and I forgotten my journal out in the shed.
I still like a monthly planner and 3 ring binder. I looked at it and it just doesn’t do it for me. Feels to much like office work. I had to add bush beans as only choice was just beans. I can’t review much more than that as features were limited without subscription. I’m not sure if companion plants are suggested or not. I believe if you add a plant you need to add all that info as well. I simply flip to what I need to know. What can I say, I’m old school 😂
I love the free version, but with the benefits you just showed us I couldn’t pass up a subscription! Be sure to click the link in the description as you won’t be able to get the discount by going straight to the app!!!
I just found a foliar spray that's essentially free. Grind up egg shells, heat @150°F 10-15 minutes. If you can grind to a fine texture. Put in fairly large container, just a small amount 1/2 cup of shells and add equal amount of vinegar. It definitely will create a foam, hence the large container. The vinegar+egg shells make calcium water soluble. DILUTE this after the process is finished 1000 parts water to 1 part calcium. Or just water the garden. The spray should be done about a week before flowering starts. Second way is much the same, but feed the shell bits to chickens. You could add biochar to the grit bowl for chickens and cut down on some of the problems chickens can get.
Downloaded to try this app. Unfortunately, everything is square or rectangular beds. I'm growing almost exclusively in round grow bags and Greenstalk towers as I'm a renter and can't build raised beds here. No way to make a round bed on the app(:
Thank you for trying out Planter and for your input! We are continually upgrading the app and adding new features. We plan to add support for container gardening- its one of the most-requested features! We will make an announcement on our PlanterApp social media channels when it launches.
GreenStalk has its own garden journal and since it’s round you can use it for your round grow bags I’m guessing. I think I will get both the Garden Planner app. and the GreenStake journal to keep track of my whole garden… thank you Scott I wish I knew about this app sooner.
I just wish I could put in the entire square footage then let me lay out my beds next upon the crop. I have 4500sqft. Garden. Within I have beds and I plant inground as well. I tried it and I’m an overview kinda person. Plus I live in Texas. I have to start early, cover, and or prepared to harvest early. How early?? My tomatoes are done by July 4th. They just won’t thrive in 115°.
now you know I prefer digital things, but I'm not a fan of the other gardening apps I've tried, this one looks pretty good though. Is it compatible with the UK?
Hi @In the Garden with Eli and Kate! We hope you give Planter a try and we're looking forward to any input you have! You should be able to customize your frost dates under 'Settings' to reflect your local conditions. We do have a number of users in the UK. We are looking to partner with seed companies in the UK to bring in seeds and varieties available there. If you have any questions we're happy to help!
Great video gardener Scoot I am looking for a garden care app that would help determine garden plant diseases, and insects. Would you have any recommendations. Thank You
Going through withdrawal. Selling lifelong home. Moving into a place with small yard and hard to please HOA. Have 1/4 acre of various gardens and raised beds in current home. Not sure if i can not garden. Looking for a community garden or a cheap lot i can buy just to grow things. Usually have a room full of seeds started by now. Watching your channel and wanting to cry.
I hope who ever buys your lifelong home appreciates what you have built up over the years. I hate to think about my next move, I'm an old fart now. Hope you can find an outlet for your gardening. Stay Well!!!
Does the app allow succession planting in needs over a season? I'm thinking of getting the lifetime premium account. But before I invest, is like to see if this is a feature it has.
One way to create a succession plan could be to copy the garden bed, make adjustments and re-name it (e.g., "Bed 1 Mid-Summer"). We are continuously adding new features to Planter- and a timeline view to support succession planting is high on the list!
For the moment the best way to keep historical views of your garden would be to create copies of the garden beds representing different points in time.
Thank you! Great idea! I had tried another planning guide but it was so connected them trying to sell me thing’s constantly, I got discouraged with it. Can I sync it with my iMac? If so, how? We don’t really use apps on the iMac
Thank you! I have three more GreenStalks to put this spring, making a total of 8 for me! I think I heard about them first from you (and Jess from Roots & Refuge!) I knew if you were recommending them, they were good! I also learned first from you what seed companies were best!
@Gardener Scott, It took me 2 days to go back to rewatch the video for instructions for Monday winners to provide contact info. Will we get any confirmation prior to your sending whatever we won? Thanks!
If you buy the annual can you separate year to year? Also I clicked on the annual option but didn't see where I could put in the promo code so I'm waiting until I can figure itout. Tips?
Hi! The link in the description has been updated so it should take you directly to the promotion- no need to enter a code. The discount will continue to apply when the annual subscription renews (you will receive 25% off the price at that time.)

I would use corrugated metal. Growfully with Jenna had a recent video showing what happened to her cedar beds in a few years and now has to replace them.
Currently the spacing is per-square-foot, although we plan to add support for row-based gardening in the future! In the meantime you might be able to simulate a row system by customizing the per-square-foot spacing.
The link should take you to the right spot whether on PC or mobile. It's been updated so the code isn't needed any more to get the discount for Premium. If you have any issues you can contact Planter through the "Send Feedback" on the app.
Downloaded the app but not sure i trust some random app maker to keep the app going forever. What if the app developers stop updating it? Using google drive folders now.
OMG, do not replace Gardener Scott with an app, lol. I still have an analog phone for Christs sake. My eyes and finger's are not as nimble as they used to be. This has a lot of potential, especially for people with large gardens, like Gardeners Scott. Stay Well!!!
Many people enjoy using Planter because its quick and easy to visualize and plan a garden anytime, anywhere! It sounds like you have a planning method in Google docs that you enjoy using.
I tried this, and it just didn't feel worth it to me unfortunately. If it reminded me when to fertilize/water and it allowed me to account for sowing for a fall/winter garden, I'd consider trying it again. Right now I can just so what it does on paper.
I had a problem with some of the SqFt spacing. 1 determinate tomato plant does not require 4SqFt of spacing. I'll stick with pencil and paper (and I'm in my mid-20's). Specific varieties of vegetables were also lacking. Even fairly popular tomato varieties like Kellogg's Breakfast and Aunt Ruby's German Green. I'll pass on this app.
Hi Nick, thanks for trying out the app! We know everyone has their personal gardening preferences, so pretty much everything in the app is customizable, including the spacing. You can even customize spacing per-variety or per-plant. As for varieties, we're working on adding more seed company's varieties 🙂.
Hi Melissa! We're working on adding this! It's a bit tricky since the garden grid is rectangular, but there's a lot of interest in grow bags and round beds, so it's definitely on our to-do list. Cheers and happy gardening 🌱, Peter
