    This is the most honest review I've seen so far.
    It took hours for Akai and Inmusic to catch up to all the demand. Servers were down all afternoon. I finally got it activated.
    I feel the same way about the quality of the stem separation so far. I hope it gets better. I'm curious to A/B separated tracks with this and Serato.

  • @JNo-sk5mz
    @JNo-sk5mz 6 місяців тому +4

    Thanks for giving a real world example of how separation works on the MPC. Like all other stem separation software, there's always artifacts and weird filtering issues, it'll never be perfect because of the nature of the technology no matter how much machine learning they throw at it, but it definitely is helpful and it definitely is dependent on source material. You can get some very good separations depending on what you're separating. And like you did, you can come up with some cool creative textures that you wouldn't have had before, with a little tweaking. Excellent video

    As a producer that also DJs, I've been using STEMS in Serato for quite a long time and once you get into it, there is no looking back. What i did find interesting, based on what you've sampled here, the AKAI STEMS seems like the v1 STEMS from Serato or Virtual DJ. Good, but not great. Although the STEMS for both of those DJ applications have moved on massively. So I'm expecting AKAI to follow a similar path of improvement.
    I'd also like to see Ricky's face when he hears he's been sampled!

      Oh it's not an impression at all, this is bad quality, and i don't mind it too much, but what gets me is that this guy is one of the rare people who doesn't shimmer you into thinking it's a game changer. The others are quite cheeky, they're choosing the perfect tunes to stem split to make it look like akai's is doing a great job, tunes that aren't too busy and have already clearly separated tracks. But they won't tell viewers that most tunes are going to sound way more artefacty and fake/muffled/etc.. on this subpar splitter. Kinda rubs me the wrong way but hey, they gotta make money.

    • @billpayer3745
      @billpayer3745 6 місяців тому

      @@jimmypierson1980 if you listen to the STEM splitting from the v2 virtual DJ STEMS. A lot of the digital artifacts are massively reduced. You are right, that the results definitely depend on the source material, but the latest iterations of the tool have massively improved.

      Yeah I bet it’s tuned to more traditional content for stem separation. Probably expecting old school vinyl content that’s more band oriented. None the less, still fun to see what pops out.

    • @jimmypierson1980
      @jimmypierson1980 6 місяців тому +3

      @@teftymusictechActually i noticed most splitters are more about how busy the track is. Reverb too causes them great trouble. That's what bothered me about the other videos, they carefully chose which song to split to make it look like a game changer but really it's sort of subpar compared to other splitters. I hope akai will work on it but they are super late in the game.

    Judging from your final remarks, I'm guessing that the results of MPC Stems are inferior to those of RipX (which I have). Even so, it'd be nice to have a fairly good stem extraction solution within the MPC software itself and not have to bounce between the two programs.

    I have a mpc x and was thinking of getting a mpc live 2 or key 37 for ideas when I’m out. Need a keyboard so might have to be the key 37.
    Also for so info some software called Melodyne first came out in 2001 and you could go into the samples and edit the note, I used it and was amazed, then in 2009 the brought out DNA,
    DNA Direct Note Access: Melodyne's unique DNA algorithms give you access to individual notes within chords, so you can not only correct wrong notes in piano or guitar recordings but also adapt samples of all kinds to match the harmonies of your project, introduce any number of variations and even “recompose” sample
    Seems to be a very similar tech. Just used in a different way.

      You can. You have to copy the midi notes from the stem track to a plugin track and assign your sounds to each note that was copied to be triggered. I do it for drums mostly tho. I like taking a live drum track and then chop it. Then create a program and track it as played live. Then I assign like drumlab drums to the midi notes.
