- In this Episode I go through all the mistakes that I made while painting the R34 Skyline, and also talk about what I would do differently. I know this will be one of the least entertaining videos in this build series but I am sure a few people that might be thinking about tackling a job as such will appreciate it! Hopefully next week there will be another video where the car is a rolling shell..

Every single person on this planet makes mistakes. Just that many hide them. You've been open and up front, showed them all. You aren't trying to portray yourself as some God. That's also why I enjoy B is for Build myself - it's real, as are you!

Haven't watched the whole video yet but since the title i might as well say what my grandpa used to say, "if you're not making mistakes, what ever your doing, your doing it wrong." Took me a while to understand ehat he meant by that, loved that man.

trevor from motion auto tv has a cool solution for sanding back runs in the clear. essentially it's using body filler to surround the run and then wet sanding it all back.

Broken Silvia is currently the best channel on YT imo and the reason for this is D's honesty(lets put it like this).For me,a lot of youtubers rush in all that big youtube splendour being shallow and almost jerks sometimes,but here,we are getting the topic we choose with quality,without flashing the sponsorship and most imortantly deep meaning of content and as we see here,-without hiding.2 more things I will add to this material are:
-Yeah,you are probably right about ppg paint and tying it with only Australia,but more important thing,is a fact as I searched,the TV2 color is nowhere to be found in Europe(thats why i asked you how you specified yourself about color you want,being in haymes) .USA and even more Aussie is more typical "hometown" for Sky stuff,but as the paint goes.if european paintshop worker hears TV2 code,his eyes will jump of the socket.The 2 ways of getting BB in EU is probably use Spectrophotometer on actual original TV2 part of car,and the computer do the rest and this color will be probably the closest match you can get.Second way is use computer to create color from hexadecimal code,but this is less accurrate i assume and more complicated because hexadecimal codes are used in internet,media to specify color displayed on screen.
-second thing is the joke i put on previous comment about your slippers.When you entered the scene of your video with scraping the heck out of floor with these like a invincible boss,i literally laughed my ass off. lol

My very first base coat / clear coat paint job ( was used to spraying acrylic enamel), the paint rep came in to walk us through the process. What he didn't tell us was that you need to use the hardener/activator in the base coat as well as the clear coat. The car was a 63 Corvette convertible, the color was Corvette red. Turned out beautiful. Until it rained, then it would get these milky white spots all over it that would disappear when the car dried. Boss was livid. We called the paint rep back in and was told it was caused because I didn't put hardener in the base coat. The only thing that saved my job was my boss was there when he told me how to spray the BC/CC system. He know the rep didn't tell me to use hardener in the BC. Ended up stripping off the paint down to the gel coat. Boss decided to paint it almost the same color as your GTR. So don't sweat the petty stuff, your car looks great!

Great video and informative. Makes tackling painting less intimidating. I like that you talked about what to do better, advice, and showing us what channels you use to reference for tutorials on painting. I would like to know all the type of materials you bought to use for prepping and painting process as a list so we can buy it confidently. Cool video and thanks! Wasnt that long, still entertaining (informative and showing us way), and straight to the point. Oh and thanks for showing us what goes in your head. The R34 looks good on camera, but the imperfections you can spot bugs you, which I like because of my OCD of trying to make something perfect, but only the person doing the project spots and it bugs the hell out of OCD lol

You got my whole respect for doing all this by your own, so much time and work are in the car. I've never sprayed bigger parts or body panels of a car myself and I'm kinda obsessed for a good result, so I only would paint this stuff by a professionel. There are so many things to think of when you want a perfect surface at the end that you couldn't know after a few weeks. It might costs a lot of more money, but i think it's worth it.

I'd say you probably didn't need the script... You're pretty fluent and you seem comfortable talking to a camera!
I have a red s14 kouki i painted myself over the summer, i realized just a couple weeks ago i missed a tiny spot of paint where my primer is slightly showing through just like your side skirts, I believe it happened after I cut and buffed the car though

Still looks stunning mate, easy to get picky when going over it with a magnifying glass. You can always redo any parts you’re not happy with down the line.
I didn't even notice those stripes on the bonnet until you mentioned it. You still did a great job, can't wait to see this car finished.

Ok so I gotta say one thing. You should stop bashing yourself. What you've done with very little experience is amazing. You saying things about how little you know or how you're not talented is ridiculous. You are doing great with the build. You're learning every single day you get to work on the cars. You are a talented craftsman and should be proud of what you have done so far.

Painting is not easy. But would rather run the paint then have it dry. Car looks good most people will never notices the miner flaws except you. Keep up the great work

Love the video! Love the mistakes really wanted to know you basically outlined everything i was worried about, but also your paint job doesn't look bad which assures me that if i do that, i can live with it, Man if you could do the same kind of video when you do the your engine/fabrication work, since i'm a DIY mechanic trying to learn things too, would be awesome!
That dirty paint run on the bottom of passenger quarter window. Would you be able to film how you'd get rid of it? Like with sandy or buffing? Would be really good to see and learn.

I think wet sand would do it depending on how thick the run is, then buff. But I haven’t done body work in a minute lol
Of course the video went as good as I was expecting it to be. Even though the paint job didn't turn out to be flawless, I believe you did an amazing job; and I do watch B is for biuld sometimes.

I can tell, there is difference with the sound. The whole thing with talking in front of the camera, has been improved very much since your first videos with the R34. Also, those tips and mistakes will be really useful for some, like me in the future.. If you want, you can tell us the way you did your research, just as you said about the channel with painting tips. Great Job again.
PS. I hope you will place the gtr spoiler at the back of the car.. It has to be. Waiting for the next one! Cheers!

Yeah will get a wing once a cheap oem one pops up for sale
With the dry areas mate just get a small touch up spray gun and you should be able to get in to the areas that are harder to get into with the big spray gun.
I think your doing well mate as the more you do it the better you'll get.

Cross hatch it to avoid zebra stripes, also dust on the base after each coat go get the flake to go on with more angles. Spraying it on heavy makes the flakes go on flat.

Everyone f**ks up, it's how you get out of it that matters, the new paint job on my 32 gtr will need a lot of work, so your not on your own, the only difference is I paid some professional the equivalent of around $4,000 Australian dollars to f**k mine up, I thought it better to let the pro's do it, rather than do it myself, not a mistake I will make again, I always believed in paying for my mistakes, but this was an expensive one, don't beat yourself up , your doing a great job, you've made a couple of mistakes but your going to sort them, it's all knowledge your gaining and not something you would have learned if it had gone great the first time, also good content, keep it up bud.

On Instagram you made a story or a post, where you told us that you're gonna help somebody with painting their Skyline. My question is, do your buddys ever help you, and if they do so, it would be nice to have them on camera, because it would bring more "life" into your videos. Just an idea though.

Little bit of feedback Damjan, keep freaking doing what you’re doing! Absolutely loving the content.
1) I would feel a bit broken talking of a tripod cam too, but you’re really not as bad as you think. I guess it sets you apart from all the shaking handheld selfie cams that are out there too.
2) Even though I watch probably the same guys on UA-cam, like B is for Build, I like your content more since it is not 110% of energy all the time.
3) Maybe some of your b-roll go on a bit too long. They can be a great transition between segments, and you have some real awesome movement and angles, but I like them more under a minute.
4) “I’m looking for a waaaay intoooo...” Picking music can so hard, especially with UA-cam and copyright in mind. But some of the songs are getting a bit stale IMO. I would like more variety, maybe take a look at Epidemic Sound, not expensive and a great resource!
Anyway, keep bringing the content man. Too me it looks like you’re living the dream and I’m quite a bit jealous haha

Motion auto TV used glazing putty (not sure what you call it in Australia) over the run to make it way more noticeable when he had sanded enough of the run away, it first shows only the run through and when you've sanded far enough you'll see the blue colour start appearing out from the run or feathering out from it.

Really good to see another video. Mistakes always happen, no one is perfect, at least you are honest about them. Imperfections on my RS turbo as well. Still, have a week off and enjoy Christmas. I think that you should switch between both car's, it would give the chanel more spice, merry Christmas from London, England .

One way to get rid of nasty runs I’ve seen on motionautotv on utube and tried is glazing filler over the top of the run and rub that down until it’s gone and removed the run it’s a really good way of knowing how far you can rub down the paint without going through the clear

6:12 orange peal happend most usually when gun is too far from the painting panel. Its basicly like rain. Like when water first is in clouds on sky, then it condence to water drops and bigger drops while it come down. Same happens whit paint I think
Edit. The preasure also have its owm part in but if presure is like 2-2,5 bar then the only reason for orange peal was distance
And sorry my bad english
And to get the right distance onto paint, you have to listen the gun. That might sound silly but when your gun is empty and you shoot with the preasure you will paint and change the distance with the objekt and when the sound changes different, that is the right distance to paint
Mix and match episodes are fine honestly. Either way its good content.

Did you a use jsai body kit or are they genuine parts
If jsai, how did you find the fitment
Only JSAI sideskirt and rear bumper extensions. Not sure what the fenders and bumper are, bought them second hand. Wouldn't buy JSAI fenders though, they don't have the cut out on the Z-tune fenders..

It depends on how much pearl is in the paint, i have painted overfenders off the car, only to re apply them to find out there a different shade to the doors due to the different painting techniques :)

You really need and deserve some good sponsors
The moral of the story with the spray booth is that, if you don't get a better (cleaner) finish than when spraying under an open sided gazebo, then you didn't prep the booth properly, and it wasn't actually clean. A thorough clean and prep of the booth, to completely remove dust or anything that will react with the paint, will save you time in re-work later.

I'm trying to hard top my Rx7 Vert, i love the way the hardtop on the FC looks. The sad part is that an FC will have to be sacrificed in order to complete my needs.

Painting is not easy. I spray enamel rustoleum on my channel.

As far as the run goes go check out motion auto TV when trevor was doing the yellow civic he showed a great way to fix it and if you're able to do it at the shop I would definitely recommend that you fix the side skirt and the dry spots since they're small and manageable to fix now the time it would take to respray the hood trunk and roof and whatnot I agree with you and waiting till after March and you get the event done but if you were able to manage it I would get it done just for the personal SATISFACTION great job on the camera see you in the next video
