Clearing upsc without coaching is absolutely possible, My uncle(sudhakar) is currently an (ADM)(one of the only 9) Assistant divisional magistrate in (khajuwala)rohini, delhi .
He cleared upsc while he was working as a gazetted officer had a daughter of 3 years old and was living in a joint family with us of 11 people in delhi, without internet without coaching.
If you have serious dedication even 5-6hrs a day is enough for any examination that's what he told me.
Self study is the most important element, he cleared several other exams(8or9).

He just motivated me a lot . Not like others who talk nonsense after getting selected like we use to study 10-12 hrs daily and many more things but truly I believe 5-7 hrs daily is enough but it should be productive. After my 12th results I am going to pursue my goal of becoming ias and by his feedbacks I really think I can qualify this exam

One thing has to be understood different people have different potential…those who are very proud of clearing UPSC in 1st attempt and reject others opionions to the extent that their way was ideal way for all. Will not help anyone in their preparation. Everyone has to fight their own specific situation in UPSC preparation.
