@@Amlugalen I was curious too, so I found a playlist of the Shelf That We Leave Things On videos and scrolled through the comments, looking for when people started mentioning the strawberries. It looks like the nail polish remover episode (GMM #1388) was the first to have strawberries in it; the running joke has come up again in most of the other Shelf episodes ever since :)
@@cupfulofeathers the first episode The Joke starts is S15 E2 things in Champaign. They did a strawberry on in nail polish, but the joke actually started with the champagne episode.

For some reason, and I know this may not be true, every beginning of the episode where Rhett and Link go through there usual intro of cleverly written lines, I can't help but to think that they've went over what they were going to say separately without the other one knowing so get a more genuine reaction from each other. Sometimes Link will be taken back by what Rhett says and vis versa. Maybe some is improv? Not sure but I like to think that they are always surprising each other.
