    Hello, I love the video. Do you have any good resources on the process of farming freshwater prawns. Its hard for me to find on farming different species.

    In selecting fish species for aquaculture, which is more important, marketability or
    fast growth rate

    • @clinedj1
      @clinedj1  3 роки тому +1

      Good Question. If you in aquaculture as a business and to make money then definitely marketability is key. As we tell many potential producers. You don't make money growing fish, you make money selling fish. However, if food production comes before making money then fast growth, using inexpensive feed will be most beneficial.

    That's quiet technology based pond systems that you show here... Not future. Ecological pond intensification is.

    • @clinedj1
      @clinedj1  4 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment. I am not sure what you mean by Ecological pond intensification. In Alabama farmers use up to 10 horse power per acre to aerate ponds to intensify production. The first pond photo is of our research station and each pond has an aerator, but none were running at the time of the photo. The ponds in china likely were low intensity ponds, but now they are building in-pond raceways in many areas to intensify production.

      @@clinedj1 Hello Mister Cline,
      I'm talking about agroecological systems using biodiversity to lower use of inputs and actions on the pond. I'm french and our systems, unless for trouts and sturgeon, are still extensive, which makes ponds area the hot spots for biodiversity on the whole country. But all "fishing farms" are closing in a part of the country, and the more dynamic other part think to use pellet to intensify. Even though our researcher are making studies about my maybe not good translation of "ecologically intensified fish farming". A good management of pond vegetation as free fish food supply is one of the main pilar. But I was also thinking about using traditionnal system coming from Guandong or other part of Asia, such as integrated poultry or livestock raising, the use of duckweed, azolla, periphyton based systems, etc. I do see what's happening in France but also in China: intensifying by a high input supply, by technology and by using soybean as a fish food. And as agriculture is my first field of studies, I can pretty surely say that the same negatives aspect of intensification that agriculture as known for decades will occur in the aquaculture world in the future. Do you agree with part of that?
