Good Willie episode. He showed a lot of maturity. I think he surprised Doug with that, and I liked it when Doug told him to trust his instincts. Doug is a bit of a goof but when necessary he is a very good father.
Mature? He was a complete loser. No sense of responsibility. Guy quits high school and can't understand why, when he starts a new job, he is asked to do unskilled tasks. And he never got it together throughout the series. Never made sense what the writers were trying to do with him.

A lot of people comment that the Lawrences drink excessively. I know my father made a drink every night when he came home from work. Sometimes my mother would join him, sometimes not. They would chat about whatever while dinner was cooking and then we'd eat. To me this seems fine.

First, don't apologize for the subtitles. I prefer them, and subtitles are accurate, whereas closed captioning is a joke. I watch everything with subtitles if they're available because I have tinnitus and subtitles allow me to read what I may not be hearing. Second, that woman was way out of line expecting more of Willie than just a job well done. It's sad to see sexual harassment whether from a male boss or a female one. I sort of wish Willie had shamed her a bit, told her he lost his wife recently and is not yet ready for intimacy with anyone. But that wouldn't be sending the right message, that this is a wrong thing under every circumstance.
Samantha Eggar in a not-too-sympathetic role. She was great a few years earlier in a harrowing thriller, The Collector, which I viewed once and could never look at again. I've been reviewing these episodes and looking at those on the Decades channel in recent weeks. Two observations from this episode: I think Kate wears four or so dresses in an episode which spans what, two days? She certainly had a lot of wardrobe changes per episode! I bet her dress wardrobe alone was larger than the total wardrobes of the other cast members put together! They all look good on her in a prim and proper kind of way. And did Willie ever finish breakfast? It seems he sits down, takes one bite of eggs and a sip of orange juice, and then says he is late for ...whatever, and leaves the plate virtually untouched! Kate appears to have made good meals (judging by the lengthy preparation we are sometimes privy to) but Willie's breakfasts, at least, seem to have gone to waste.
I was noticing Willie’s eating habits the past few days of binging this show. It seems all he does is eat, but is thin as a rail. Someone said in the comments in one of the other episodes is that her cat weighs more than Willie. Lol
We never drank this much milk. Only in cereal and with dessert when we were too young for coffee. We drank iced tea, water, lemonade, oj and if were lucky, soda. I gave up cow's milk entirely around 17 and I'm Buddy's age. It always grosses me out the way people on tv drink cow's milk so much.
I noticed Willie's comment about the changing weather too, made about 44 years ago. There was also a similar comment made in a 1950s movie called "Indiscreet" with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Cary Grant said, "They say our weather's changing", or something to that effect.

I know she was using Ernie, but she did at least come clean with him and if you ask me Ernie was the most mature one of the three of them. Buddy and TJ's relationship is destined to crash, neither one of them is mature enough to be "going steady". Also, if they are supposed to be a couple, why the lack of physicality in their relationship?
No such thing as “just” a housewife and mother. She devoted her adult life to raising and acculturating the next generation. That’s her life’s work and likely much more rewarding than getting a weekly paycheck in the Customer Service department.
@@spiritmatter1553 Her character literally goes back to college to earn her teaching certificate in music because she was SO bored and unfulfilled, lol!
I don't really see it that way at all. I feel that she just recognized that part of her job of raising a family was done and she finally had the time to develop her own interests and herself as a person. I think overall Kate would report being very happy with her life.
Kate recognized the value in having someone running the household and making sure the kids got what they needed to grow up to be responsible and healthy people. That is called parenting and its what people should realize when they decide to have a family. It takes a lot of smarts and talents to raise three kids. And Kate, when she had the time, did pursue her own interests. She is a wonderful mother and wife.
You just insulted housewives and mothers. Why does everyone look down on them as if they are worth less than a career woman? They are doing the most important job on earth and it is not everyone that is able to do it well. It requires a multitude of skills and attributes and great wisdom. Anyone who has ever put their talent and intellect into making a home and raising children has used their gifts very well indeed and not wasted them!
That's terrible even her reaction at the end. Gosh if it was on the other foot. Though this way a women boss in the same situation seems weird. Different times ah. People idolize these times. Say better than today. But sorry all sorts of things happening behind the lines.
Why are older women so attracted to Willie? Shelley Long, now this, and I think there was maybe another one that he gave a ride to from the airport? He's TWENTY! 2 years ago, he was in high school. He's a college kid without a college, so he still lives at home. Yuck -
Willie is such a strange character. No friends/girlfriends his own age. The father saying "I'm not sorry I told him to get a job". In my family, we either went to college or got a job. No time off to find oneself. I went to college and paid for it myself. Can't identify with this family.
KZ Armstrong totally agree!! At 18, you have 2 options: school or work (or both, like you and I - and zillions of others did/do). And the free guest house in the back they all take for granted that both Nancy and Willie used without having to pay rent...love the show, but talk about fantasy! 😂
Shelley your right! Have you seen the episode where Kim Cattrail ( sex in the city) is a married woman with kids. Tries to talk Willie into a affair with her. He considers it. But can't follow through.
If Norah was a man , it would be considered horrible that men were setting up women to be used by the boss.. I still think it's gross...how Lustful she was and arrogant to think any man would just go for it and somehow feel honored they were chosen ...it's an ewww for me ... Men can be pigs but women doing it is nasty in a whole different way...women who aren't maternal...very narcissistic. Willy was supposed to be willing to be used. So sad ..😒

Only on tv. Not in real life. 🎬

I always wondered too.
Shelley your right! Have you seen the episode where Kim Cattrail ( sex in the city) is a married woman with kids. Tries to talk Willie into a affair with her. He considers it. But can't follow through.
evidently, cougars existed even back in the 70s!! ;-)
So sad ..😒
But he was not willing, I'm glad he knew what was going on and walked away. What a horrible woman.
It's so fake. No woman like that would go around coercing men for sex. 😂 no need!
