yeah, after hearing so many live renditions on youtube i even forgot how slow the album version is!!!! but yes, this is how it goes. THIS IS the album version, and the tempo is right -- not slowened -- no doubt of it : i am a drummer, plus i just went and checked :-)
This is the best speed. Best version I've seen. Love watching when he whistles. Hilarious. God I love this song. That little kid riding on his dad's shoulders is now in his 50s. Think about that.
It still makes me angry to this day that this stunning display of musicianship was relegated as 'filler' before the news or whatever in the days of Top 40 radio because it was an instrumental - the whole song was rarely played. I sincerely hope there's an afterlife and the ones responsible for those decisions pay dearly. :)

Very interesting. Bert Reuter had joined by this time, and Jan and Thjis were still on the same side of the stage, and both actually smiling. Later they would be on opposite sides of the stage, with a huge drum riser between them, and Jan would be looking bored and annoyed, and playing over Thjis and doing other unpredictable stuff. But those first 4 Focus albums and the live one were real classics.
There’s some rapid live versions to be found on YT, but I have always preferred the studio version so I can really focus in on the rodent lyrics (02:28), yodeling and whistling.
I love Focus but nothing for a year and then 8 at once is.....let's say badly organised at the very least.. ...and sticking the album sound with some odd footage is really unsatisfactory
