Two more cinematic offerings from bass music duo Koven and two more reasons to set excitement soaring for their debut LP ‘Butterfly Effect’ on Monstercat, ‘All for Nothing / Shut My Mouth’ is the next single set to be unleashed from the album. Continuing their success into 2020, they’re tracks which juxtapose one another yet are still underpinned by the emotive production standard which has become a defining part of Koven’s musical personality. Both Max and Katie have brought together a sound which has caught the attention of an audience, one crossing over genres. Having already revealed three new cuts, including ‘Your Pain’, ‘Give You Up’ and ‘Followers’, there’s two more singles left before the full release of ‘Butterfly Effect’. ‘All for Nothing’ and ‘Shut My Mouth’ is the penultimate part of its journey.
‘All for Nothing’ is a record many listeners will recognise from the pairs spell-binding live sets. With Katie bringing her vocal-prowess into the mix alongside her wizardry behind the decks, tracks like ‘All for Nothing’ have stood as a staple part of her sets. It combines keyed piano tones, patches of rising, orchestral instrumentals and a rolling drum rhythm which takes you into its first breakdown. Switching to a more dancefloor edge, you’re welcomed into another anthemic drum & bass delivery from Koven.
On the flipside, ‘Shut My Mouth’ follows the darker route which Koven sometimes embrace, however it still flourishes with Katie’s vocals, peppering the beginning of each breakdown. With a half-time tempo and stabbing waves of sub bass, this is the darker dubstep side of Koven’s sound, yet it still exemplifies the intricacies of Max’s production.
Fans and tastemakers alike are now left waiting for the last album single, Max & Katie have already demonstrated the talents which they both hold; as a vocalist,writer, DJ, producer and through their harmony as a duo, also highlighting why the standard for ‘Butterfly Effect’ has musically surpassed even its already sky-high expectations.
I am someone who gets excited about new music, games, movies, etc. way too quickly, and I usually need some time to let it settle and develop a more objective opinion. But ever since this song got released a week ago, it looped in my head. I just couldn't get rid of it. I listened to this tune quite some time now, and I think it is now safe to say now that song is my favourite Koven track since 'You, Me and Gravity' and probably the second best in total. I know, I said that about 'Your Pain' as well, but 'All For Nothing' has surpassed it because it is the first song where the lyrics struck me on a personal level... The emotions behind your voice amplifies that feeling as well :). Such a thing never really has happened to me before, and I am so glad that you decided to create this masterpiece.
Everything about it works in such beautiful harmony. The piano chords, the underlying drums, your emotional voice, the energetic buildup, the quiet bit in between. It all comes together to such a magical whole. I am stunned by this artwork. This song will be my personal treasure from now on!

This track makes me reflect specifically on where you say, "We can be a little too hard on ourselves...we can be a little too rough on our hearts, it's all for nothing". I'll stand for Koven for the rest of my life because I simply love their music. I'm a huge fan since I first listened to Petrichor while streaming MrSuicideSheep, than came From the Start, Final Call, Voices... It's a kind of music that really brings things from inner self out on surface. I know that their songs really means something for the authors, but it give me the opportunity to interpret those songs for myself as well. It's magical, wonderful, truly soulful.
All for Nothing is one of those song. A song that bring an encapsulated story, a progression, an adventure to the listener experience. I can't help but imagine a whole movie into my head while immersed into your awesome music, Koven. Thank you for existing!

Said it before, I will say it again - that combination of heartfelt lyrics and DnB is just outta this world! This song's been on repeat the past week!
Another year has passed, and I find myself coming back to this beauty over and over again. And no matter how much and how many times I comment and try to express my gratitude towards this song, it feels like it will not be enough.
It's weird, maybe almost mind boggling, how such a relatively simple (and I don't mean plain, just to be clear.) tune which probably wasn't that big of a deal in the bigger picture for the two of you to have such a massive impact in my life and hopefully so many others.
We all need that person who tells us that all this overthinking, burdening ourselves and constant worrying can and will get too much and that we're allowed to let it go. And if that person is Katie, "just" via a song, then that's okay. I'm so glad people connected with this song and hopefully could've let the weight of their burdens on their shoulders go, even if that was just for 5 minutes and 1 second. :)

A very unique year and over 200 re-listen later this song hasn't lost its appeal a single bit, hell it may be even better than before. It still gives me shivers as if I'm listening to it the first time all over again. The emotions in this song are indescribable for me, the feelings bone chilling and the lyrics almost angelic. I may be exaggerating a bit, but I genuinely and honestly think that this release right here is one of the best things I've experienced music wise in my life...
