    Hi, Adam. I have a Saratoga5 which is equipped a pair of Aguilar 5J HC-CL pickup, but I was thinking to take out those pickups quite a while, since Aguilar seems too loose and sterile. Mike told me he likes the B-axis most but the B-axis were always run out of stock. Which bartolini pickup should I choose if I want my bass could sound thicker?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  2 роки тому

      I really liked (and sometimes miss) the CBJD3 in my Beast. If you don't want the brighter tone, you could always opt for the CBJD1. Both sets have the super thick lows/low mids Barts are known for.

    • @bkdg0531
      @bkdg0531 2 роки тому

      @@AdamSaylorBass Thanks for your advice. The fingerboard on my Saratoga is chechen and there's also a tone knob in the onboard preamp. So I think the CBJD3 shoud be okay.
      Are the lows/low mids of CDJD and B-axis very similar to each other? I also own two MTD535, I love that thick/punch sound.

    Hello. Nice videos!! Increadible sound!! Do you think that using that pickup configuration into a MTD Kingstone Z5 (like your other bass) will work ?? Thanks!!

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  5 років тому

      Thank you for your kind words! I'm not sure how the coils would line up with the Z5 configuration, but you can get the J Soapbar (P25J) pickups. Be aware that these are "Original Series" voicing though and not the "Brights". Another option is the 2J Squared (P252J) pickups which are 2 CBJD coils set opposite each other inside each shell. This would allow you to coil select if you installed the necessary switches.

    Hey Adam, sounds great! did those Bartt Brights drop right in without any additional routing?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому

      BassWorx EnhanceMents yes, that was another reason for going with them right off the bat. Bartolini sent me this set as well as a set of the new B Axis pickups. The brights fit perfectly while the B Axis would've required major routing work to fit, and based on clips I'd already heard of the B Axis I wasn't taking the risk.

    Hi Adam, I have a tobias classic 1998, his preamp is XTCT-LZ, I don't like his frequencies ... Do you think a good exchange for a BR-HRTCT-5.4AP?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  4 роки тому

      The first thing I would check is what pickups you have (dual or split coil). If they're duals, make sure they are wired in parallel. Then see where you are.

    @adam saylor do you have a recommendation or link to a 3 knob TCT that would sound similar to yours? I’m trying to put one in my jazz bass.

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  4 роки тому

      Any chance you could move your output jack to the side of the bass to gain another spot on the plate?

    • @TampaSkwad
      @TampaSkwad 4 роки тому

      Prob not I would have to drill a big hole for it. If not this Preamp do you think there is any other that could resemble the TCT but with less knobs. Maybe like a Volume/ Blend stack, mid, treble bass stack.

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  4 роки тому +1

      @@TampaSkwad there is certainly a TCT configuration that will work with your setup, but it will not give you enough control to sound like what I have. The beauty of the TCT is the way the variable mids (and the treble shelf tied to it) work. You could try the NTBT, here's a link to a jazz bass with on installed: ua-cam.com/video/4q4o7j_BEt8/v-deo.html. This one would fit your layout and sound pretty close: bartolini.net/product/hr33/

    question.....I have a beast the Mike upgraded for me; would the TCT be the module added to my already bart preamp

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  7 років тому

      Thomas Long the TCT circuit has a couple different values on certain pots compared to the NTMB. You could switch it all out if you are able to compare the diagrams and see which ones need to be changed. Also my TCT has the 3 way mid module which is it's own separate thing from the TCT module. You could just buy my prewired preamp and be good to go 😝.

    Sounds great but a little too much bass. Could be your amp settings. I like a nice solid sounding open E above all things.

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  5 років тому

      I don't think it's my amp settings. That's just the sound of the TCT pre and the bass itself. I have the 80Hz roll-off active on my rack pre and the bass at center detent on the TCT, there's no extra bass boost happening anywhere. Everyone has their preference. I like more low mids, some people like more grind/clank in their tone. Most FOH guys I work with love my tone because they can just run my channel straight-up and it sounds great. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  7 років тому

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  7 років тому

      Nathan Harvey for me it's in the shaping of the mids. The B Axis pickups seem to have quite a low mid scoop to them. This video is a pretty accurate representation of how they sound. ua-cam.com/video/FbAvLCD_A1I/v-deo.html

      Adam Saylor will the tct fit a Jazz American Fender Deluxe Jazz V Bass? Also do you like these pickups better than the B axis Pickups?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  5 років тому

      @@springboard1924 I believe Bartolini has managed to shrink the TCT module down some, but I don't think you'd have room for the 3-way mid module as well. You'd also have to play with the knob configuration (using stacks) to make it all fit on your control plate.

    How you would compare b axis to classic bright series?

    • @AdamSaylorBass

      The B Axis are more traditional sounding jazz pickups. They're probably the most "fender sounding" thing Bartolini makes.

      @@AdamSaylorBass i have the 57cbjd bright series at the moment.
      I had a defect blend pot in my Bartolini preamp and i couldn't find a 5a5c blend pot.
      I had a m/n blend pot installed and now my bass is a little bit more bright than I would like to.
      I am putting some serious thought about installing the classic series again but the deep version or the b-axis.
      Your comment helped me a lot!
      I like the warm bass-midbass sound of bartolini.
      I hope b-axis has still the strong low that bartolini is well known for

      @@powermosfet was the MN pot 250k or 500k. For both the B Axis and CBJD3 pickups I found a 250k MN to be more ideal than a 500k MN as it warmed the pickups up a bit. Then I used a 500k volume (since it was active/passive) to keep the highs from rolling anymore beyond that.

      I currently have the B Axis in mine, I wanted the bass to sound as fender (Marcus Miller) as I could get it. I will say that the B Axis need a good preamp for me to like them. I don't much care for their passive tone, but they are magic with the TCT preamp.
