That intro was top notch. Love the bouncing souls! Seeing them again this Friday in Chicago.
Awesome! They've been touring like crazy lately, I think they've had like 3 or 4 tours since mid 2021.. Great live band! Thanks so much for watching
For me hopeless romantic through to anchors aweigh and crucial moments in S-tier period, ghosts on the boardwalk in A with the gold record being a B and their earlier three records being almost not on my radar.
The Crucial Moments EP was how I discovered them and for me is their best piece of work, it’s almost like their newest current release beside Volume 2 is what I have the most nostalgia for. I saw it in a music store, loved the artwork, got the CD and listened to it then booked tickets to their 2019 London show within the space of an hour, and travelled down from Sheffield for it. By far one of my all time favourite bands 👌🏻
They have a new record coming this year too! Wil have to revise the list... thanks for checking us out!
Quote of the episode is Matt: I'm gonna take that D. You get that D big fella.
On the next episode of "John shits on older records of classic punk bands," we find our controversial hero tearing classic Bouncing Souls records a new one, awaiting the inevitable backlash from the punk rock community. I am with you on Simplicity, it feels like they were forcing the classic sound and it just felt flat and Greg's vocals have never sounded more lounge singer. Sorry man Maniacal Laughter is a classic and has to this day some of my all time favorite Souls songs.
I'll toss out my quick off the top of my head tier list for the full lengths only:
S - Hopeless Romantic and Summer Vacation (Not just top tier Bouncing Souls but top tier punk rock records)
A - Maniacal Laughter and Anchors Aweigh (Anchors always felt like an inferior copy of Summer Vacation but still rips)
B - Self Titled & Gold Record (Matt's wrong about Gold Record, this record has a ton of jams. Better Things is all time favorite.)
C - Good Bad and the Argyle & Comet (Joe Lies is a gem from GB&A, there was a live version on a comp from the 90's called Oi! Skampilation Vol. #1 that was my intro the Souls)
D - Ghosts on the Boardwalk & Simplicity (I can't get into either of these records at all)
Good video fellas, gotta side with Matt even though he didn't follow the rules. Waiting on this juggernaut of a Fat Wreck video coming our way.
lol I gave the self titled a decent rating, I think it's I've heard for the past 20+ years how great Hopeless Romantic is but I think Summer Vacation and Anchors Aweigh are far superior! But Maniacal Laughter I can't get behind, just not my thing, but we are doing the Offspring and AFI soon so I'll be more friendly for the older stuff (maybe). Fat Wreck video is going to be awesome, we have a new video format planned, just trying to figure out the visual part of it.
The quick chek girl song was good something I could relate to as a Jersey girl
@@leahflower9924 NJ is spoiled with Quick Chek & WaWa (even though they are rivals)
S
Maniacal Laughter
Summer Vacation ☀️
A
S/T
Anchors Aweigh ⚓️
B
Hopeless Romantic
Comet ☄️
C
The Good, the Bad...
The Gold Record
D
Ghosts on the Boardwalk 👻
Simplicity
Boogie Woogie Downtown is the worst Bouncing Souls song and single handedly landed Ghosts in the D tier 💀
Most underrated song is Ship in a Bottle from Comet
What are your top songs on Maniacal Laughter? Surprised to see that above Anchors and Hopeless Romantic
@Punk Rock Radar
I love the whole album, only song I skip is Headlights... Ditch
Favorites are
Lamar Vanoy
The Freaks, the Nerds...
Argyle (probably my #1)
Quick Chek Girl
Here We Go
Johnny X
Production is pretty bad but I really don't mind it
How I spent and anchors are my s tier. Gold is A. The rest change depending on the day. The rest is a song by song , not full albums. Thanks for content
Nofx and Frank turner just did a great split. I agree though Gold Record is a really good album
my first time listening to Souls was Say Anything off the Punk-O-Rama 3. that was an alright song. didn't bother to check out their albums until i heard The Gold Record. my S tier would be Anchors Aweigh, The Gold Record and Comet
Our lists would be pretty similar, I think Matt has Gold Record/Comet too low. Thanks for watching!
Vacation hopeless byo split
Maniacal S/T
Gold simplicity crucial
Boardwalk anchors
Comet argyle
How I Spent My Summer Vacation is an all time record, same with the split! Thanks for checking out the video!
Blasphemy. The Good The Bad and the Argyle is S+ for nostalgia and a solid B because of the variety of the songs. Us over 40 guys gotta pull up on this one
Always tough ranking the stuff we heard a decade or so after it was released. Hard to appreciate them the way they should be
I think it’s a great album but a big part of it is simply how fucking weird it can get, I get that part of that has to do with the fact it’s technically a comp but it’s a really unpredictable and fun album with some genuine bangers
Neurotic was an amazing song, so gotta disagree with the hard diss on the first album I give that review a D.
Haha Yeah I know there are some strong opinions about that record, glad you enjoy it!
Gold record at C?! Bruh
Yeah I totally disagree with Matt's take here too, the Gold Record is a firm #3 album for me.
