Yes, the ERA on the hull will save you from ATGMs including tandem ones. It's honestly a bit of a surprise when I looked at it on protection analysis and it definitely seems that it can save your skin against ATGMs hitting the side. Certainly something of merit for the heaviest MBT in the game :3
Edit: Some time after this comment and video were posted, Gaijin fixed the "overperforming" ERA. It can't eat tandem ATGMs anymore :3

@@5000mahmud Well true but then when you look at NATO tanks like Leopard2s and Leclercs we start seeing a severe lack of armor when irl they can defeat apfsds on the UFP. Not sure the exact ratings for leopard2s are but for the Leclerc they can protect up to 460mm-550mm as there were several tests that demonstrated this in real life. Yet gaijing to chose to model russian ERA to it's full capabilities while nerfing NATO composite armor by almost 100%.
Armor is only one aspect that's been purposely nerfed to hell. There are also other aspects like mobility, in which tanks like Leopard2s and Leclerc can accelerate atleast 30% faster than the t-80U/BVM.

@@5000mahmud Actually scratch that, some sources say its actually closer to 650mm of protection. Ingame armor has been notoriously nerfed by ALOT for NATOs tanks, as were witnesssed on the strv122 tank. When the strv122 came out the armor values were close to real life counterpart and it was way too OP for Russia. The leopard2a5 armor is also around the 600mm range of protection and alot of sources say that too.
For example, when the Swedish military was testinf the leopard, abrams and leclerc for their MBT, they asked the leopard2s to have uograded hull armor but didnt require the the leclercs and abrams for it. What ultimately won the competition was the leopard2(strv122) due to operational requirements, gun and better turret armor.
It's really unfortunate that us british in game get nerfed so much from rl counterparts
I like how its basically the same as the Ariete and the Ariete PSO. Side skirt ERA, no other difference besides weight. Funny thing is that the PSO switched places with the Ariete, which made the Ariete better than its slightly better armoured twin.
Though to be fair the Challenger's ERA makes a lot more of a difference than the Ariete's
The normal Ariete has better turret armour thanks to the combat package
The 2F mod costs are now much lower, that's the biggest improvment for new players.

It does have ammo at the rear of the turret. The rest of it is the nbc pack and storage for the crew
I once watched an XM1 get pelted by shells but only fixed on me 1.5km away. Every time I shuffled forward he'd shoot only at me but ignored everyone else who had him diled in.

In real life a Challenger 2 uses Chobham armour which is very very strong. Gaijin have really dropped the ball on this tank

Can I just point out that there is 2 versions of this add-on armour kit they could have add.
First version which should have been stock is basically what we have here only instead of the era blocks on the side of the hull we have 200mm thick composite armour block's with the composite armour backplate.
Then there is the second version which is what we currently have which should have been an upgrade. Has the composite armour backplate with the Israeli made ERA Block's on the side of the hull only. But there is a few issues with the model first of all it's missing it's mine protection kit on the belly of the tank and second the 200mm thick composite armour block's on the side of the turret are currently ERA which is incorrect and needs to be fixed along with an issue that has been with challenger 2 since it first appeared in game which is the mantle have bacically no armour it has been reported multiple times but they will not fix it irl it is not 30mm cast armour. It has composite armour there not 30mm cast armour but I do hope it eventually gets fixed !!
Whilst no, the mantle is not 30mm. Its in fact only 100-200mm thick and inside does not have any additional kind of armour including composite or steel plate. Behind the mantle plate is followed up with the breach rotor which then leads into the turret space. The armour figures in game are approximately what you'd probably expect. Definitely no more than 300mm worth or any sort of armour that would in anyway change its effectiveness in game.
Now imagine playing this thing stock lol. Even the M1 stock has trouble turning properly, can't imagine what this thing is like as I don't have the chally's
Painful, to say the least. Atleast you do get stock Sabot, L23A1, otherwise these vehicles I would just use GE to spade.
2F and TES should get driver thermal camera, possible L28A1/2 and as always the Mantlet. As well as a stronger ufp. And the 1500hp uprated CV and gearbox. But you know it’s warthunder so we take what we get.

I stopped my challenger grind when i researched the Cr.2. After that i moved to other tanks to flesh out my line up there, not that there is much other than ligh tanks... I dislike the high br's of the challengers, even the cr.1's, but i always managed to make them work. With great effort might i add though, and the cr.1 mk.3 is my favorite of the bunch dispite it now only occasionally withstanding 3bm42. 11.3 cant come soon enough
I enjoyed this very much, no matter what tank you play you always perform very damn good but I will admit I had low expectations, all that extra protection against chemical rounds means more weight which equals to bad mobility and when it was first teased I expected that a lot of things would improve (better survivability against darts, maybe a stronger engine) but all we got was a 2 2F with more ERA/weight. If Gaijin adds something it should be diferent like the Type 10 is compared to the Type 90, it has better survivability, increased firepower, commander's and gunner's 2nd or 3rd generation thermals, you can easily tell it's overall different in many aspects and not just one aspect that will be overlooked. Either way, thanks for suffering a bit for us, I appreciate your honesty so much, it's one of your strongest suits and I'm glad you haven't changed! :)
That's because content creators pick the best possible gameplay. If he did shit people would be way less interested. And after all this is for entertainment, not entertaining much if you upload a spawn camping video where you get killed after spawn😂

the thing is that the UK simply cannot get anything better but other cr2 variants and the cr3 which hasn't even entered service yet and retains all the problems of previous cr2s but a slightly better armor, gun and engine, but the Hp/t is still terrible along the weakspots, it's just that UK tanks aren't good overall when compared to what other nations offer, italy is on the exact same spot since they already ran out of arietes but the hitfact turret one which is only for demostration and the centauro 2 and maybe the M60 leonardo, and japan could get another type10 with the dozer blade and the type90 prototype, but my point is that this nations are pretty much out of material besides some options which are pretty much copypastes so your lineup is stronger.
I guess how tanks perform in this game directly relates to their real life performance to some people

JPT, you the man! As always, watching the entire video :) Great Britain has approved the development of a new tank to replace the Chally, it's a dang shame they've opted not to put Rheinmetall's 130mm, or any 130, to save money (use existing 120mm stock).
Because the 120mm is more than sufficient to go up against the type of tanks its likely to face. Unfortunately, we can't afford the cool stuff anymore.
So this is why I said the TES should of been a modification for the current challenger 2F, exactly the same as the T72B3 modification.
Well, not exactly cuz T72B3 Armor pack actually gives armor that works and extra engine power, its a no brainer to take it lol

@@cutthroat795 vehicle yes, useful no. The UK needs more mobile top tier tanks and or IFV. Not another chally that is practically exactly the same as the previous one. You have to remember the amount of grind people are going to go through to get this tank.
There is a baby HSTVL in the Italian at 9.0 ! 60mm-APFSDS luncher with 250mm of pen, a 2sec reload (coupled with a 16 round auto loader)

There is something else that's different, I'm not sure if it's intentional or just an oversight but the blocks on the side of the turret are identical to the ones on the 2F in appearance and protection, yet it's coded as ERA instead of NERA and disappears after the first hit (where the 2F's blocks won't always). The actual ERA, as you showed, also has identical protection stats in the x-ray view to the 2F turret blocks yet clearly have much better chemical protection.
There's also a composite behind the ERA, with 280mm of protection against chemical, but even if you take that into account you still have 1200mm of chemical protection more than the armour viewer/X-ray say you should...
TL;DR: I think the turret blocks are still the NERA that's on the 2F and shouldn't be listed as (or act like) ERA, and the actual ERA just had the x-ray protection values copy/pasted from those NERA blocks.
Edit: I think the 2F's weight may be wrong, it clearly has more add-on than the regular 2 but they both have the same weight (both with and without the add-on packages)

16:25 I feel that dude. Most of the time, the enemy have my friend (using light tank but powerfull gun) directly in front of him, easily killable, but ignore him at all. At the same time he keep loking at me and shot me from 1+km away, while I use thicc armored tank destroyer that I don't even realized he was there. He ends up critted by my friend, and I finish him lol.
All the chally 2's should get CITV and we need working camo nets on it
No British challenger 2 has received CITV in real life service, the only challenger 2 to use CITV was the challenger 2e that was offered for export.

chally 2 went through some of the toughest tank on tank war fare in kuate and iraq and didnt lose a single tank, its very defensive against tank rounds and there is an acount of 1 surviving over 100 hits and ddint stop shooting or lose a single crewman
Chally 2 never existed in 1991, it was the challenger 1s that hold that record for the longest kill in tank on tank history.
The 2nd gulf War had the chally 2 survive multiple RPG hits with the exception of the lower front plate which suffered penetration hence the Dorchester armor package.

Yeah the chally 2 really isn't geared towards the speed meta of war thunder. Would love some long range sniping maps/game modes, which the challenger is MADE for.

Well they could add the Megatron technology demonstrator as a Modification for the TES, it has extra Armour on the Turret sides, lighter Road wheels, mounted a better 1500hp MTU engine(only for a while but still could be mounted), CITV(which I don't have a primary source for)
Do you have a source for ATDU mounting megatron with the 1500hp MTU? To my knowledge neither of the two CR2 gun tanks used by the unit that have been named megatron have been fitted with anything other than the cv12-6a, the modifications required for the MTU are extensive and in some cases permanent.

As I said the modifications for air intake and cooling to make either the standard MTU or the euro powerpack fit into the challenger 2’s engine bay require a lot of cutting and welding. ATDU have however practiced reliability trials on the cv12 which included running it at 1500hp and even 2000hp however past 1200hp reliability was found to decrease and when run at 2000hp the transmission nearly blew up and the engines reliability was none existent.

This Game does NO justice and honestly lies often about many tanks the Challenger 2 MBT is one of them
Classed as one of he best in the world in most peoples top 3 and 100% in everyone's top 5 that knows anything about it
It has the Longest MBT on MBT Kill ever , A world record , It also has this 2 times over been smacked by a Ru Kornet ATGM & over a dozen RPG's and stayed in the fight , Was not knocked out and took out the two hunter killer teams in that ambush and still fount on that day , And in another ambush it was hit by even More RPG's in the double digests and IED and was not knocked out ,
The only Tank to ever do so , on record - to be hit by a ATGM & That many RPG's 14 plus in that ambush which is fucking insane , no MBT has ever taken damage like that and lived , The other ambush is just as insane - all well documented , You can read the AA reports , " quoted " The Chobham armor is what saved the tank , ( Top secret armor made in the UK & gifted to the states and was immediately put on the M1A2
Was back in the fight hours later , If you ask most tank crews they will all say that the Challenger 2 has the best solvability Package even with no addon's
So having the Longest Tank V Tank Kill in the world ( In Iraq ) And to survive what both Challenger 2's did , Is unheard of , I.e The M1A2 Got hit with a single RPG but the blow out panels did there job ,and was back in the fight ( Love that beast ) and the Leopard 2 was completely destroyed in Syria by a Kornet ATGM Tandem warhead ( Still a super sexy MBT tho , If looks could kill LOL )
So imo its in a class of its own , I don't think anything comes close in crew protection & Survivability , Imo its hunter killer Fire Control system is the best in the world and many many M1A2 Crew's that got to use it were very impressed , Lol rant over , i just hate the way this game makes it look like a bad or just okay MBT when its one of the best in the world , I dont think the best but its very much up there

Problem is that the Snail has decided that western armor is not useful against kinetic ammo, something the weight of the armor kinda states is untrue......
and 3rd person camera is one of the things that ruins RB that and killcams people just hide till they see a tank then just pop out hit them and go bk to hiding.... its why SB tanks is such a better experience

They could've just made the engine 1500 hp cause thats what the engine can actually do. IRL though they limit it to 1200 HP for fuel purposes.

Well they mounted the MTU in the Megatron technology demonstrator, they could have just made a modification to make it into Megatron with the lighter road wheels, add on amour on the turret, CITV(I think) and the better engine

As a brit i can say we do have decent tanks they do have flaws but nowhere near as bad as these such as the mantlet and sides

The CR2 TES has the same engine as any other CR2 1200 bhp Perkins , the export 2E had a 1500 hp MTU Europack none of the British units have this also the TES is a system and armor upgrade that is fitted to all CR2s (Theater Entry Standard) operating in an active combat zones, if the units sent to eastern Europe at the moment where expected to go into actual combat they would all be fitted with TES , TES is not issued on training exercises its not a version of the CR2 it's an armor package that can be fitted to any CR2 .

What justin said is all true. This tank is just pain in the butt. Yeah it has good survivability but that doesn't guarantee anything. Speed is the meta in top tier and if you got speed, you already halfway there to win the match. If i can trade my chally, i will trade it with Leo2A6 or M1A2.

my final comment. not one chally has been lost to enemy fire and has been in the thick of it not to mention tanking a ATGM hit and multiple RPG hits from all around the tank and still survived. war thunder does not do the chally any justice

not sure why they added this tank into the game as you have said its basically a 2f and not much difference they should have been adding the challenger 3 which is the current upgrade program for the challenger which improves firepower getting the L55a1 cannon as well as a massive engine upgrade taking it from 1200hp to 1500hp and optic upgrade then at least britain could be a little more competitive at high tier.

16:20 Pointing your barrel at him probably made him think you were a threat, that barrel isn't as obviously destroyed as barrels that banana and if he did know its destroyed he doesn't know your repair timer. For all he knew you were 1 second away from a repair with a round in the chamber and a Russian tank is more likely to survive a front hit over a side hit.
