- Ever wondered how sims in the sims 2 would behave if you just observed them and did nothing to intervene? Well that’s what were going to do today!
In todays video, I’m going to be placing 2 very different sims in separate homes to observe what they do autonomously within 24 hours, then we will be locking them together for 24 hours to see what they do.

Attraction in Sims 2 is a bit more complicated than just the preferences you select. It also takes their aspirations and personalities into account. So when you have two sims with opposite personalities, the fact that they fit each other's preferences doesn't do much.
Exactly! I am a Virgo and if I have to be around a messy gross person for life, I think I would jump into the nearest lake, river or ocean.
Yep...the best pairing is actually identical personality and aspiration. I try to keep mine within 10 points of difference (knowing that 50 points is the maximum difference they can display).
@@SweetLala25 girl you're preaching to the choir. My fiancé is kinda messy and it drives me crazy, but love blinds you.
Also it gives me an excuse to clean more often so I guess that's a plus LOL
And interests! It's surprisingly involved and makes sure every two sims have unique attraction.
I was thinking while watching that she should have made one Sim a Family Sim because that aspiration is the opposite of Romance/Pleasure. The two aspirations picked actually give a big boost to their chemistry because they’re so similar.
If male sims are sloppy, they will often leave the toilet seat up. I always thought this was such a funny little detail!

Active sims get hungry faster too. They really put a lot more care into the personality even though they don't have traits IMO
They do this in sims 4 too. I see the reply that says hunger. Does that happen in the sims 4 with active sims? It might not and if it doesn’t I truly don’t understand why there is so much more gameplay and story in the sims 2 and the sims 4. I heard someone say “it seems like they stopped caring and had to slap a game together and release it”
@@melodybrae8778 Actually there really is evidence that they did slap it together. I'm a veteran player (since 2002) and I didn't get on board until October because of how slip shod the game was at release. It didn't have things there were standard in Sims 2 and 3 and some even in Sims 1 (toddlers, pools, hot tubs, etc.). I even tried the game free 4 years ago and wasn't ready to buy it at the time because I felt it was not fleshed out enough. I was surprised that though I completely scrubbed my machine that the save was still there when I did finally buy it 4 years later. There is still not an attraction system in TS4 which was established in TS2 EP2. TS2 remains my favorite of the franchise, but I am enjoying TS4 because I've truly mastered TS2 and TS4 represents challenge to me.
@@melodybrae8778 One more thought. When TS2 was originally scheduled to be released, March 2004, the week of, maybe even the day of, I don't recall, they decided to postpone it for another 6 months because they wanted it to be as playable at release as possible. We were disappointed, but it was released with very few players having serious difficulty. Compare that to My Wedding Stories which the majority of players had serious difficulty and even after the "fix" it still is pretty buggy. The studio is throwing stuff together to please its investors rather than caring about its players. However, this is a stupid corporate move, because without pleasing the players, the investors are not going to see an ROI.
Just FYI, if you revisit them, in TS2 Sims don’t Woohoo autonomously. You’ll need ACR for that (Autonomous Casual Romance) and then you’ll find that they probably do it way too much!
Also, the reason they didn’t show attraction here is because you didn’t ‘set’ their gender preference. In TS2 all Sims are asexual until you, the player, make them flirt with a Sim of the same sex, opposite sex, or both. Then the game ‘knows’ that Sim’s gender preference and they will start to be attracted to other Sims of that gender. The more you know… 😊
Edit: Also, also, if you have a bookcase in the house, Sims can ‘write in diary’ which will fill their Social need even when they’re completely alone. Staves off the Social bunny and they do it autonomously. 🙂 Not sure why yours didn’t because my single Sims do this all the time!
These Sims would have the X'ed out bolt, given their personalities and aspirations, most likely. I'd be very surprised if they had 1 bolt.
In the unmodded sims 2 game, sims don't have a sexual preference until they're directed to flirt/ are flirted with. That's why they're not attracted to each other initially: they don't have a sexual preference set. You can use a mod such as ACR if you want your sims to be "born with" a sexual preference and for them to do romance autonomously. These sims simply don't know which gender they're supposed to be into yet.
I saw a "theory" once that said all sims in the sims games are pansexual.
I always knew TS2 had hair movement when theyd move or look around, as well as snow bulking around the feet when walking. But i NEVER noticed the chest breathing! It became super noticeable in CAS watching this video and i was blown away!! TS2 is and has always been my favorite release for gameplay life simulation wise, i do wish the build buy was better, thanks to ikea the cas got some much needed love. Though for real holy cow i am still truly shocked. I always watch those "things you didnt know" for the sims 1-4 videos on here and ive never seen anyone point out the sims breathing movements before!
Oh my goodness the animations and facial expressions in TS2 are hysterical! I might have to check it out for myself. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
Scour eBay! Sadly not supported by Maxis anymore so digital copies are your best bet!
@@TimeQuxxn I already have a digital copy through slightly dubious means. (If it were still being sold legitimately I would absolutely pay for it!) I just haven't given it a try yet.
This is why I skipped Sims 3. I felt their animations were very flat and lacking feeling.
@Lily White omg pleaseeeeeee don't skip it because the game play is FIRE and it's so chaotic. I am also TOTALLY biased since that was my first game HAHAHAH but do give it a try next time a sale rolls around it is also an extensively good time

These box houses are exactly what my builds looked like when I first played in 2009 🤣🤣
Many people find it creepy and obnoxious when Sims are self aware and break the fourth wall by looking at the player to show their reaction to their God but I found it charming and funny. I miss that detail and it should be brought back as an option.
I’d love a part 2 with these sims! Hank turned out to be a precious little angel. Also the penguin roaming outside killed me 😂 I hope he makes a reappearance in the second part lol

Just started the video. I will say, I've never seen TS2 sims use a weight machine autonomously, but they will use the bike and ballet barre. I think the treadmill as well. Some objects are coded to advertise to sims that they will fulfill their needs. This is why Sims in 1 and 2 will get mail. The mailbox falsely advertises that it will fulfill a critical need, I believe it's hunger. Okay, restarting the video now.
Only messy sims will take a sponge bath (Neat 4 or less).
Attraction is based on multiple things. Not just turn ons and offs. It is also based on astrology, personality and aspiration. Your best bet is actually two sims with identical personalities and aspirations.
My first thought was "thank god she didn't use the exercise bike!" 😂That thing is lethal. They use the treadmill as well, I think, but not as obsessively as the bike.

Yes, please do more with these two. I enjoyed this one the most as I have failed several times to get The Sims 2 to work on my computer.
I used to have the sims 2 on an old laptop when I was younger, but it broke and I’m not sure how to get it back. I wish I had played it more when I could
Some observations/information based on what got remarks in the video...
- When Louisa takes a bubble bath, you'll notice that her Hygiene need is about 50%, while Hank's is still in the green. This is because Sloppy Sims lose Hygiene faster, hence why she ends up washing herself so much. It's not because she's hygienic; quite to the contrary, it's because she gets dirty more often.
- They both made group meals because they know there's another Sim in the household, not because of imaginary friends. They were looking out for each other!
- Hank didn't clean up the big bowl of mac and cheese before going to bed because it hadn't gone bad yet. Sims pretty much never clean up group meals before they go bad.
- In Sims 2, to be attracted to each other, both Sims need to have a positive preference for the other's gender. Sims fresh out of CAS don't start with a gender preference unless they start with a spouse, so because Hank and Louisa didn't have a pre-set relationship beyond being roommates, they mechanically couldn't be attracted to each other. If you'd stepped in and initiated just one flirt, though, that would have boosted their attractions to each other's genders enough to show chemistry, which given their aspirations, turn-ons, and turn-offs probably would have been high.
- Louisa built more Creativity skill than Hank because she's playful. Playful Sims build Creativity skill faster. If they'd both had chess sets and thus been building Logic skill, Hank would have been the one with more skill points, as serious Sims get a buff to building Logic. If they'd had both creativity items and a chess set, most likely Louisa would have favored the creativity items and Hank would have gone for the chess set.
- For some reason, Sims never clean up the red punch cups. I don't know why this is, they just never seem to do it without direction no matter how many Neat points they have.
On the social side of things, for a while the sims 4 sims had a computer they could use to socialize so their needs were being met. But sims 2 sims do seem to lose social a lot faster than sims 3 or 4.
Yep personality points do make a difference! Love how Hank is way better to keep his needs up than Louisa because he is neat, active and shy (doesn't need much socialization)
Even though you have their turn ons match their appearance, they don't have high chemistry because of their clashing personalities. Yes, they do count. Funny they don't talk to each other until after the fire! And I like how the Sim avoids cooking with the stove after the fire, guess it's cereal, lunch meat sandwiches and salads from now on.
...the thing you got from this video where they both do 99% the exact same things is... that it makes a difference..?

I have never played sims 2 for PC before! If I managed to save up for a new laptop, I'm gonna try to get it. It looks so fun! My favorite are the ghosts! I want to make haunted houses. :D
You can download The Sims 2 on a few old games websites, I used old games download to find the complete collection :)
@@WhinyBrit Ooo! Thanks! I might try that once I get at least the base game disc. That way I can just download everything else and enjoy the ride. One family I got my eye on are the Pleasants. I have..so many ideas for them.
Could you consider giving them each a fenced in backyard so that they can get outside, either for gardening, relaxing or a little swim? Would be less like being stuck in a box, I don't know why I feel sorry for them !
He was so kind and so caring. Lol a lil bit chicken but hey at least she's brave where he isnt. He tried to cheer her up and help so many times.

You won't get any attraction unless you direct each of them to 'flirt check out sim' to set a gender preference.
They won't use that exercise machine autonomously, they would if you placed a ballet bar.

Many comments have said that their personalities change their attraction but also hank has the 'stink' turn-off and luisa had low hygiene.

Sims 1 and 2 social meter is just stupid fast. Even the most extroverted person can go over 24 hours without socializing before it begins to bother them then take a week before they need to socialize and introverts do not need to socialize at all. Then there's everyone between the two extremes.
Sims 2 is another level the details in this game are awesome..
The thing is, in Sims 2 their wishes are more important than in any other of the games.
And his character is a lot easier to manage than hers.

I would love to see a similar experiment these Sims with comparable signs and maybe another with similar personalities. It seems the attraction didn't work and o wonder if its due to the two of them being so different
I remember almost every couple I made as a kid should always be opposites of one another. Often I made the husband the sloppy one while the wife the neat one cleaning up his mess. I remember the wife sometimes look at her husband and giggles at him burping amongst other unique reactions the sims in Sims 2 do depending on their personality. Later I still do such kind of couples but with more variations as I though there's a higher chance they will produce offsprings with every personality bar either be full or empty. It was before I read the genetic page on Sims Wikia where the personalities are actually mostly just random when they are born.

I have the impression the red cups on the floor aren't doing much to lower the environment bar so for this reason the neat sim is not getting rid of them.
I agree, I think the object is programmed so that sims won't pick up the cups, since they were intended for messy university parties.

After everything people say about Sims 2... wow. The neatest possible sim leaves cups all over the floor. The most outgoing possible sim stares at a television for hours rather than talk to another person while the more active sim relaxes on his bed. That's... wow. They're really just the same, at heart.
I mean the neat sim did clean a lot, I think the red cups didn't count as a mess because their environment need was really high even with all the cups.
The red cups aren't programmed as regular trash so they're intended not to be picked up, and relaxing on the bed raises their comfort and social, if they daydream.

...with the keg stands, it doesn't even explain why a *maximum* active sim is just... lying back anyway.
