Vinyl Community Purging My Collection Part 1
I have decided to purge some of my collection over a two part series. A combination of duplicates, albums I already have in box sets and records I haven’t listened to in a year or two

Good process to go through. Purging your collection every now and then is a very healthy and refreshing thing to do....and creates a few bucks to buy new stuff lol ;)

Shout out to Belleville! I grew up just up the road from you in the city of the 1000 Islands...Brockville! I always have a reject pile going, and usually every 6 months or so I am bringing them to my favorite shop in Boston to trade for store credit. It comes down to a shelf space issue for me. If I'm not listening to it, it's time to part ways.
Brockville is fairly close to me , only 1 1/2 or 2 hours away

@@RobertsOnMyTurntable We used to call it Brock Vegas back in the day. It was a fun place to be in the summer by the St. Lawrence River. Lots of boats and parties!

An interesting Purge
Especially the Rod Stewart was because Atlantic crossing through footloose and fancy 3 are a trifecta of just great rock and roll.
Session musicians he had with him then were just something else some of the best heavy hitters around and some of my favorite Rockin Rod albums
Love Every Picture Tells a Story but don’t listen to him much anymore
Funny, I just picked up that Gary Numan "Dance" for cheap. I haven't heard it in years and had a hanckering. A very chill record. Have it on CD. I found that Rod Stewart "Footloose & Fancy Free" in a dollar bin other day. After one play, purge! Going in the donate box. I raided the dollar bins at some local stores just to see and give stuff a chance like Schlager, country, disco or rock. I'm not going to resell, I just donate to Goodwill thrift stores. You will get that back 10 fold in the future, trust me.

Hey Robert, I guess we all face the same situation, records that we wonder, "Why did I buy this?" Ones that we've listened to once and set on the shelf and forgotten. I really don't care for the Bee Gee's Saturday Night Fever era at all, but I do love their earlier music. Maybe you can find some interested person who is just starting out in the VC in Canada and VCLT him (or her) a bunch of these. Just an idea 🥁🎸😊.
That’s a great idea George. So many I don’t even listen to, but at the same time, going through everything, I discovered lots of great music to listen to and video topics.

Wow you’re purging some great albums! I hope you make plenty of room for what you like! I purge every couple of years, usually just my doubles , because i like to keep a library of music , I’d be interested in buying a few from you , good luck my friend!! And on to 1000 subs 👍🤘🤘

be very careful what you get rid of i did this a few years back and got rid of nearly 400 cds of stuff i didnt listen to any more and have regretted it ever since , stuff that you just dont see any more, just becuase you dont listen to it in the last couple of years, i still beat myself up about this all the time

Good luck with the purging. I get the theory, but still find it hard to let go of excess. I'm a bit of a pack rat, I suppose. Some quality stuff you have there, you can trade or sell and buy some replacement records that you will enjoy more. Take care!!!

Hi Robert: C'mon 1K subs! I totally understand the desire to purge to obtain more space. I purged frequently in the past, but I don't do it very much anymore. Apparently, I wasn't very good at it. Unfortunately, I have found myself looking for albums and CDs that I thought that I had, looked on my inventory after not seeing them in my collection, and was surprised that they just weren't there. Lamentable re-purchasing! However, you appear quite deliberate about your decisions with much better albums to put in place. I am sure that you will be happy! Thank you Heather. They are never easy decisions, but I needed the space for other buys, which I’m slowing down on for a bit as well. I’m taking the time to listen to what I have and enjoy them😊😊 that’s not easy either 😆😆

Hey Robert, Good to catch up with you here. I understand that, the need to let go of a few things now and then. I did here and there over the last couple years. Lots of good ones here for others to enjoy. :-) 'Points on the curve' is still one of my favorite pop/rock albums. I even have it on 3 formats, ha. I was about to purge my two copies of Saturday Night Fever when this guy who just got on my bus said," You know I didn't always work in the County Administration Building 🏫.
I used to be the lead singer of The Tramps. I replied, you mean like Disco Inferno? He answered, Yea, and a whole lot more!
So, I held onto both copies.
As far as Rod Stewart is concerned:
(1) Never A Dull Moment
(2) Every Picture Tells A Story
(3) Gasoline Alley
But I also really like A Night On The Town, Foot Loose And Fancy 🆓, and Blondes Have More Fun. But I'm partial. I walked into The Blue 🐦 Parrot bar on Prospect in La Jolla and asked this voluptuous woman if she did nails. Bill Wyman was standing next to her and asked me, Why did you ask her that? I ignored him and walked up to the bar. The bartender asked me, Do you like Rod Stewart? I said, Sure.
He said, You want to hand him this Manhattan? I handed it to Rod and Rod said, Thanks Mate.

I did that years ago with my vinyl.Now I could kick myself for doing it but it was alot that I didn't listen to either .But I still have over 1500 albums sheesh but now I usually only get vinyl for the art work of my favorite bands
I have close to 1600 so I probably won’t miss a few😊

Sometimes it’s good to throw seashells back into the ocean! What a bummer when you find out an album you thought you had doesn’t have the record in it, always a frustrating feeling!

I definitely understand the need for purging from time to time. Right now, I'm just looking to beef up my collection as much as possible because of an unwanted purge I had to do a few years back. Most of those you are purging I would agree with personally except for maybe Gary Numan, New Order, Van Halen, and especially Yello (I'm a big Yello fan and I'm missing that one). But, if you don't care for them or don't listen to them, it's totally understandable.
It wasn’t an easy decision but I feel good about it😊

Glad I’m not the only one who went through a purge! I will buy that New Order collection off you Robert! I’m a huge NO fan. I got rid of a few Rod Stewart records myself. Peter Schilling had a hit in the 80’s with Major Tom (a sequel to Space Oddity) Great video!

Currently trying to do this myself, it's definitely not easy but necessary sometimes as the collection grows. Space is really getting to be an issue for me. I'm very interested in the New Order Substance album if you're looking to sell or trade for it. It's very high on my wantlist:))

I feel you about wanting to do a purge!! Those Rod Stewart albums you showed up had some of those in the past and I purged them..lol. Cuz I just never listen to them. Take them down to your local store maybe you'll get some trade credit and pick up something you really want my friend

The first four Rod Stewart are all good. The Wall Of Voodoo and 10,000 Maniacs would stay in my collection. I purged a lot a few years back and honestly I need to again.

I couldn't purge my shittiest album that I will never listen to and I have over 30,000 Lps - not to mention the singles and 78s. Just not in my DNA. What you're doing is very sensible. I'm unable to be sensible when it comes to vinyl. They're members of my family.
