This is my favourite performance of this piece. I love this much more than the playing of many famous "cellist stars". This is so full of joy and love for music. Unforgettable performance.

My personal favourite version of Haydn C, full of energy, and the clarity of each note is just unbelievable, as well as the intonation, and the phrasing, I've been listening to it for almost everyday. Congratulations, big time 💐

Prior to this, my favorite recording of the Haydn Cello Concertos was by Daniel Muller Schott. Now I have two favorites!

@@christinetran6805 Which Slava performance is your favorite? I just watched this one ua-cam.com/video/A2jE917QiPM/v-deo.htmlsi=HmaycsYJsS0Cgb0k
They have very different styles. While I respect Rostropovich as a technician, I often find his style a bit too...mechanical? I did enjoy watching the video that I linked above. He has an incredible bow hand; seems to have equal capability on both up and down strokes. In this way, he resembles Heifetz.
I may not be correct in saying this, but I often find musicality and technical prowess to be on opposites sides of a spectrum. What I love about Yibai's performance is that he breaks this "dilemma", takes both qualities, and pushes them to near maximum.
Btw, the recording of Daniell Muller Schott that I was referring to in the original comment is this one: ua-cam.com/video/FE84dKDxeKM/v-deo.htmlsi=cy2M5VXVJcQ1BphT
I saw you also replied to my comment on Hayoung Choi's video. My issue with her playing is that it's nowhere near as beautiful as her facial expressions and body movements want you to believe. I understand part of what makes a soloist successful is visual communication, but I prefer to evaluate a performer's skill through my ears only. Choi's bow strokes are harsh. Her phrasing also doesn't suite my taste. It feels like she's playing to check some boxes: "it's good to have dynamic range. see? I'm playing very soft here. And now I'm playing very loud here! Very soft and smooth here. Robust and fast here! See? Did you notice the difference?"

Extremely talented young musician who will have a full life ahead with their career and bright future. l adore these young musicians.

Is there information available on the instruments they are playing on? Whether they are on loan, what type of instrument, etc. I'm not a cello or violin maker, but I'm still interested.

The differentiation between the strong and soft is bigger in his performance compared to Choi. He is quite softer when he is soft it appears more dramatic yes. But that's a difference in their interpretations. It is not an attempt at covering technical short comings with flamboyance. Also he is very in tune with and clearly well aware of the orchestras style and their pace. Im especially impressed by that. Besides Slava i have not seen a cellist capable of doing so. Maybe an ego thing i dont know.
