If you put the stops outside the contours/shapes and press the slats from the inside, everything will be much easier. And the contours will be formed more accurately. And start pressing not from the edge, but from the middle of the laminate.

Great video, very solid info. What would be the weight difference if any between solid and laminated stems? I've done laminated stems before, although with slightly thicker pieces, steamed them on a jig before gluing with pretty good results.

No problem at all with solid stems as long as the grain is oriented right and they are strong enough. You can actually cut the internal stems from this boat out of 2x12 if you want to, although lamination is obviously stronger.

I dunno where you're getting Irwin 12" clamps for $5, but I'd like to... They seem to be more than twice that these days. That said, I'm quite excited for these projects. I've had a love of the St. Lawrence skiffs forever

Black Friday sales, or if you are quick enough estate sales. It'll take time, estate sale apps/sites will have photos. Tools n garage are usually last photos. You will need to look closely.

You're right! I looked them up right before I made the video but I must have been reading something incorrectly. I thought they were suspiciously inexpensive! The harbor freight clamps are looking more attractive now. I'll go buy a few today and see how much they suck and post an update.
