What a beautiful explanation and interpretation of one of the “scariest” books in the Bible! Yet, Jesus shows us not to be afraid, for it (Death) will not be The End, but rather an unveiling of the real and everlasting Truth. The Truth that Our Savior has risen from the grasp of Death, as He predicted He would, and more powerfully, if we follow His Way and His Truth, WE TOO shall overcome Death and rise up to met Him. It’s almost profoundly simple, to me, at least! God Bless you, Bishop Barron! You have been gifted to speak His word…and you do it so well!! Much love to you!

He often has insight and he always has knowledge, but he doesn't often have a word from the Lord because he's working from his own study and intellect. To a lot of people that is still going to really wow them and maybe even penetrate but he's not tuning into the Holy Spirit and getting a word from God in his preparation and it shows.

As some famous protestant once said, if the apocalyptic prophecies of the Messiah's first coming were proved to be literal, and the allegorical views of the paganized Jews proved false, we have in that strong evidence that Revelation and other second advent prophecies are also literal.
The Jews are still waiting on the First to allegorical happen. You don't want to be in that number when the saints come marching in, cause after the Second there will be no Third. Call it crazy if if it makes you superior, but.

  • @DrewMureiko

This is one of the best sermons...probably ever. I would like to perhaps push it a little bit further to say that not only would the Jews have the veil pulled back in revelation in their generation, but that all Christians must have the veil pulled back every generation. All of the things that past generations used for navigation and basic survival (including politics I might add) are all inherently good things that God wants us to use for our benefit and His glory. This is certainly true in our generation. We must beware that should we become so attached to the goods of this world that we forget the very foundation of those goods, (which is Jesus [John 1:3]) than we live in a generation that must have the veil drawn back, yet again, for us all to see who is reality and goodness itself. I would argue that this has been necessary for every generation. What is one of the key principles of us having this veil pulled back? Among other methods, I believe that the most certain one is Holy Suffering...offering up to God our spiritual and physical tragedies. You'd be surprised how well that works. Look to Him on the Cross the next time you go to Mass and gaze at His suffering; His suffering that redeemed the world.
God bless you all and God bless you Bishop Barron.

Everytime I went to the church and hear other priest's sermon, I always think what would Bishop Barron deliver for this Gospel reading. But I always think of the mass as where God is present. Being born in the Philippines, out Catholic faith is deeply set on us. However, we do not have serious and charismatic catechist teacher like Bishop Barron. So we are always at loss and there is a time that I was totally lost on what is the meaning of Eucharist. Perhaps, many of the Catholic lay people are also in the same dilemma. Hence what I observe most of the people who attend to mass without any forethought about what the mass means end up missing the whole point of it. And add to that is the absence of good GPS which will guide us. Hence, a lot will fall to evangelical denomination without realizing that they are turning from the real church who has been true to Christ's word and celebrating what Christ wanted us to do. The moment I realize the importance of the Holy Eucharist which was supplemented by the teaching videos of Bishop Barron, it gave me a new meaning on what it is. Once again, you are a God gift Bishop Barron...

I was in the front third of the cathedral and I couldn't hear the readings or the sermon; I was pricking my ears and I would catch a few words. WOW. What joy you reveal, Bishop Barron, in teaching this nuanced unveiling as Good News rather than end times frightening news. The shift magnifies the power of the Scripture and its impact on 21st century Catholic catechesis. What a spiritual Father you are to refocus us in Jesus' resurrection wherein the reordering of all the 'signs' previously bound by the power of death now fall out. This is high praise by which Catholics close out our liturgical year---not with frightening foreboding, but awe & gratitude for the glorious truth revealed in Jesus' death & resurrection. Profoundly taught. Praise God who speaks through you, Bishop Barron.

Matthew 27:50-54 (NIV) 50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

When Bishop said " in fact, the corrupted political powers have used the fear of death to do the dirty work for eons" You know this is the light of life, the true courage of mankind!

It's really nice to experience your perspective on the bible. My brother and I have been looking into religions more during covid and we grew up Christian but steered away from the church. We always had questions that the pastors wouldn't/could'nt answer or gave us a just have faith response. And you keep summing it up so nicely! Thanks! And God Bless!
