The part that confuses me is ... what exactly is German in nature? What constitutes the 'true German spirit'. I'm just curious, really. I do recall reading Friedrich Engels (quite a notable German from history ;) state that "As is well-known, we Germans are of a terribly ponderous gründlichkeit". I also remember Germans being described, once, as 'coldly methodical'. Which could well explain their success at engineering... but sadly, not at politics...
