Beautiful job, I just restored my 30 pound weights. They said " throw them away". I thought how can I throw these away, when they have helped me grow so much. I decided to restore them and now theyre better than when I got them over 10 years ago. It's not a shoe/boot but I related to restoring something that meant more to me than money.
The owner clearly likes those boots since he went through the trouble of getting them resoled a couple of times but not enough to keep them conditioned.
Yeah the uppers look awful even after all that work resoling them. I thought you could buff that kind of beat up leather back into some semblance of attractiveness but I guess not.
I don't get it, it's so goddamn easy to scrub them use a basic cleaner then throw some conditioner on. You can do it like 2-3 times a year and it will be fine.
If you can find a worn out blade or a technical drawing for the blade to your grover you can have a machinist make one for you. I would suggest looking into tool & die makers in your area, they are more used to make parts like the cutter you need than regular machinists.
Great video, mate. I have an old pair of Meindl stitched hiking boots too but only really wear them as winter boots when there is heavy snow nowadays. Like you mentioned, for hiking a pair of light shoes or boots are a lot more comfortable over long distances. Keep making the videos.
Lighter construction for lower mountain less demanding conditions. For higher mountain where there is rock and uneven terrain boots used a more rigid construction. Here around the Alps it was less a matter of weight on the feet and more a matter of easier wearing/breaking in and also price (even back in the 70s, although they would still last you 30 plus years if you took care of them).
Peace and God’s mercy be upon you. First of all, your work is beautiful, your work is very beautiful, but there is a simple need. You work one by one, so that I can understand from beginning to end, and how the sole of the boot is. Do you know how to make it? What is more correct?
Dude! What an incredible Craftsman you are and what a Helluva journey you went through on these. I kept waiting for a shot of the finished product however at the end. Did you get shots of what the Asolo's looked like when you finished? Please post those photo's. You're not doing yourself or your efforts justice. I totally know where to go now if/when I ever need shoe care at your level. Wow!!! That was beyond impressive.
So I have a modern pair of Asolo 520’s that are falling apart. I’m not a fan of the vibram bifida sole everyone uses as a replacement. Would it be possible to resole them like this? With a midsole?
Great video, thank you. Do you ever put a welt like the long strip you used in one of your last vlogs? BTW, those Asolo hiking boots are made in Treviso, Italy, my neck of the woods. Do you know how old they are?
I am not too far from you, nel bassanese here, those could be from the 80s or earlier, depends where they bought it, I bought mine directly from them and it was in the early 90s. What was bought abroad and what was sold in Italy and Europe was not always the same. A rubber rand would ruin the look of the boot though. But if you want similar built boots give a look to the other little boot factories in our areas, there are a ton and they all work in the same way, some still keep making a vintage model or two for people that like the look, plus buying directly from factory can lead to awesome discounts. ( Don't mind the nickname and language, born and raised here, it would be rude to just write in Italian in an English speaking channel)
Nice job. I have a pair of those from the 90s in much better shape. Unfortunately, I have to sell them because they no longer fit. As far as that blade part you can't find, was the machine made in the US or Europe? You might just google the manufacturer name & see if anything is available in Europe. They are using really old equipment over there & you might find it. 👍☮️🌞
Are those Landis machines tough to find parts for/keep running? I love old leather sewing machines. Maybe a machine shop can fabricate the blade you need for the channel machine if you give them the dimensions.
Hey friend, could you turn on the subtitles? My father doesn't know English, he usually watches videos where they just do the job and it's not necessary to speak, precisely because he doesn't understand English, I have UA-cam configured, but if it is not activated by who generates the content, the subtitles do not appear in the desired language, I appreciate your attention, regards!
Cobblers work hard for their money, thats for sure.

Nice craftsmanship and for being an ethical shop, thanks for sharing.
Those boots really have some character
They look hideous. As long as they work I guess.
Hi beautiful job. A question, can you take a boot that originally has a moulded sole and replace it with a mid sole like this? Thanks
This dude is really talented...thank you

How do you avoid too much heel spring with those vibram one piece soles??
Can the new asolo boots be resole?
are you allowed to use shoe trees on leather hiking boots?

Would you video the part where you hammer the cork?

Basic parts are available still such as blades
wait a minute is that an 88a chain stitcher?!

What type of conditioner did you use? Great video.
choose Saphir!

Верх сильно износился, кожа потрескалась. Видно, хозяин ботинок не очень хорошо следил за ними. Проще было купить новые. Но мастер - молодец.
Have a machinist make you a blade for the channel machine!
That's exactly what I was thinking.
He did not show the part of the nstalling of Vibram soles and did not mentioned the kind of polish used . Looks like he ran out of time.
*Cobblers get busy with their shoe orders. It's why parts are left out. We must understand that 😊*
You. Y. M
Why on earth do you carry a gun when working on shoe's???
Look at that gut,he'd need a gun in any confrontation.
1:31 what kind of business do you do that you need to carry a gun at all times, lol...
Perhaps, you make sure customers pay :D
Most likely, he is from one of those CCW states. He is doing an excellent job on those boots, though.
Ты чё эмигрант из рашки ?
Those boots need to go straight to the trash can. Their just ugly looking boots.
