  • A very engaging lecture by Dr. Umesh Patra on the poem ‘White Paper’ by Sharan Kumar Limbale for the students of B.A (Hons) English.
“White Paper is the collection of Sharan kumar Limbale’s poems written in Marathi that have been translated into English. The translator, Mukta Jagannath Mahajan, has done a wonderful translation the highly symbolic and metaphoric poems of Limbale. The Dalit poets of Maharashtra from the early 1970s onwards created new literary textuality by writing fiery poems, short stories, autobiographies in Marathi, which generated altogether new language and idiom in Indian literature. It was this Dalit Pather Movement that created waves in the 1970sand 80s. The word Dalit became more and more popular only after this movement attracted the national attention. Sharan kumar Limbale is the writer and poet in that movement and he has produced an outstanding poetic text, in the form of this poetry collection. In this book Limbale tells the pain and anger of a Dalits and narrates the Dalit life in different contexts. Limbale’s poetry has the power of enraging the anger of Dalits and has the energy of inspiring them.”
