Your understanding of ancient greek adds so much value to these lectures. The way you outlined how the word καταλήψεται has a mental as well as a physical role allows people to have a much better understanding of Heraclitus' conception of fire and its connection to logos. Great stuff.
Heraclitus was one of the Presocratics who never revealed anything, never concealed anything but talked through signs! Thank you so much for reminding us!!!
Brilliant videos, thank you. Would love to see something on Pyrrho & possible connections with India at some point in the future, but anything is great!
so if death for one thing means the birth of another, it is suggesting that death of thing x directly leads to birth of thing y? as in the change we observe in biodegradation and the use of the biodegraded material as fuel for plant?
@@GregoryBSadler you got me there. Maybe I should ask is the logos a constant that constantly changes? you know how physicists say the laws of physics were different at the time of big bang.. etc

yes I agree, I appreciate the references to the original greek text I think it adds a lot also
Glad that was helpful for you!

Well, he said the god does that. Not sure we can say that Heraclitus himself is doing that
Looking forward to more videos on the pre-socratics
Do you think heraclitus is an influence upon hegel and thus Marx?
Thank you. Very good lecture. Made me see some things in new ways.
You're welcome, Mark
15:45 So what I'm getting from this is that fire "judges" and fire "groks"
Or something does, and Heraclitus calls it "fire"
Awesome!!
Thanks!

It's always tricky to read in more to Heraclitus than what we have in the text
That makes a lot of sense if you think in the sense of the Cycle of Life
Interesting video. What book were you using?
listed in the video description
Ah, indeed. Thanks for letting me know.

maybe constant flux is a property of the logos
Then it wouldn't really be much of a "property"
@@GregoryBSadler
Thank you for that Dr. THAT is something really worth considering. !

@@sturmanaskie Those don't seem analogous at all to me. Changing once wouldn't be like constantly changing
