Here’s a 5-part series with “creative rhythmic approaches” to practice Major scales ascending & descending. All of the exercises given will work on your improvisation skills while holding the shape and fingering of the exercise. This set of tutorials aims to be a lot more interesting than just playing the scale up and down, where the only intention might be speed & dexterity
Part 1: • How To Really Practice...
A scale has 7 notes which provide for a rather odd sum of notes (14 up and down). We transform this journey over 4 beats to a measure and end up making one note longer than the others both ascending & descending. The result achieved by maintaining a steady left-hand pulse and counting an eighth note time feel
Part 2: • How To Really Practice...
We play the scale ascending & descending in irregular (odd-number) groupings of 3s and 5s while maintaining the same pattern of notes
Part 3: • How To Really Practice...
We develop the “Swing” feel, commonly used in Jazz & Blues music to practice our scales with a keen sense of groove and the off beats ( 2 and 4)
Also, check out how to use the Metronome: • How to Use the Metrono...
Part 4: • How To Really Practice...
We use one of the most iconic Latin rhythms, the Son Clave, and play the Major scale ascending & descending
Part 5: • How To Really Practice...
We take a beat-division system of let's say 3 beats or 4 beats and define a rhythm pattern around simple binary permutations using notes & rests

I like your teaching style
You are very intresting &inspiring
Thank you Rosamma! 😃 Glad you found the lesson helpful!
Thank you. Rhythm is so important but basically ignored by most teachers intent on legato one bar+1 at a time. Sometimes the metronome is suggested but this method is a thousand times better. Also following the circle in rising sharp Fifths suits classical and guitar but most Jazz and blues is on the flat side. Surely it is better to do both sides from the top and use the Blues scale as well. The thumb chord in the left is particularly good idea.
Merci. I was getting sick of doing scales but this is such a great way of looking at the music of scales.
Happy to help!

@ 6:52...Can't believe how great it sound when you accompany that with those chords, how do you know which chords to play with it? Is there a rule for that?
May not have been explained the best in this lesson. But we've done a bunch of lessons on the channel to Color chords and use them in numerous progressions. Perhaps you can start with this: ua-cam.com/video/-ZHD5SMSF0o/v-deo.html

Could you please play this in F#?
I'm sure you can play this on all keys/scales!
And how to split infinitives! Lol.
Jason sir. Your playing the Piano and the explanation are excellent. But your face becomes tensed and twisted, each time while you are plaing. It shows you are not relaxed ??~~~??
Thanks! That is your opinion about my face. But maybe I don't need to be relaxed all the time while making music. Maybe that helps? And I don't wish to control my face while playing. I'm fine at the moment as long as the body works together to help the music sound as best as possible!
But I think he is enjoying the music and teaching others also how to enjoy the music. It is rather difficult to hold your face expressionless when you are enjoying something.
