- So pleased to share this very beautiful video of Johnny singing "Moon River", composed by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini, in 1997 on a special celebrating the songs of Johnny Mercer
This year and next week, Wed. Nov. 18th, marks the centennial of Mercer's birth. Celebrations and tributes have taken place throughout the year at various Pops concerts, radio performances, and in Savannah, GA, Mercer's place of birth, where a statue in his honor will be unveiled next week. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will hold a day-long retrospective of films with his music on Wed. the 18th, including a documentary about Mercer produced and directed by Clint Eastwood called "The Dream's On Me"., 6pm, ET. "Breakfast at Tiffany's" will play at midnight, ET.

Never understood the words to this song when I was young.. Now, when I see a full moon and a river of clouds go by it...I pop in this Johnny Mathis song...it brings the view to life in my mind. Try it sometime, it will take you away.

Since Johnny is not coming to Brazil anymore,I will always keep in my memory the day I attended his performance in Municipal Theater in Rio de janeiro.

That man has a voice like velvet it is so smooth & silky . His singing alone takes me to another place in my mind . I used to be a ballroom dancer and music such as this was my life . Then one day a drunk driver hit the car I was driving I will never dance ever again.. Few people are gifted with such a voice. I'm a French girl whose ears and voice grew with Monsieur Johnny Mathis, then later on with Mister Daryl Hall. We have talented song writers over here, but no such voices. For once in my life I will thank the US of A (:

Surely, one of the best renditions of this song I've ever heard.
There is a cute video of Johnny and Henry Mancini appearing on a show in the U.K . during a tour they did in the late 80's, and Henry 'teases' his good friend Johnny about Andy having so many hits with the Mancini music. All good -natured and fun. (In this video, both artists do a Mancini medley with full orchestra)

i love this video- and "Laura" - the live version i have up which is also from this PBS special. He is wonderful - one really runs out of words. I heard Dionne Warwick say in an interview once that he has gotten better with age- and that his voice is like 'velvet-- no matter which way you touch it's soft"-- you're very welcome - so glad you are enjoying these.
