In 1997 I turned 25, I was broke, sofa surfing,, had no job, I didn't even have a bank account. I lived in an unfurnished flat on the edge of Liverpool trying to stay out of trouble. I had a fridge a mattress and a Hitachi Superwoofer Cassette Player and 11 D&B tapes (among others) These tracks kept my head together, kept me calm, optimistic and patient and confident that better days would come. These tunes took me to a great place without the drugs. Today, I live in Surrey, my kids are in Uni, I have my own small business, I am a published writer, a commissioned artist and a specist project manager. Hearing these tunes reminds me how far I have come, to stay humble, to never disconnect from the beauty of late 90s D&B and never forget the days I wished for all the things I have now. Not only does D&B take to a place of amazing social memories, but it also takes to a place of solitude and humility. The D&B of 1995-1998 always sounds like a spiritual journey to me and a shameless display of electronic musical production in a style that transcends time and never sounds dated (like almost else everything does)
Good

Wow , couldn't have said that better myself - very similar story. One love
Nice, beautiful story and connection to D&B. Sometimes I think of D&B as futuric jazz for the digital age that simultaneously touches upon an ancient and spiritual past on this blue and green planet. Cool to hear how my fellow humans have connected with this art form✨
@@PhilippAurand I hear you. I think you nailed it there.

i rarely see a comment section full of such peace and unique stories, i feel this mix finds you, rather than you finding it. for my story? it's still new, i have a long way to go, but i use this mix during my college studies and as a background track while i set up my first prototype video game. hopefully, in the future, ill come back to this mix, and recognize how far ive come :) stay frosty, yall, and never give up
im 42 in 1997 this sound recently start out in uruguay and i was beloved of this style was the full goldest time at the2005 .DNB FOR EVER GOLD MUSIC AND REAL UNDERGROUND SOUND....
Listened to this while riding on crowded busses through Mexico. It was perfect.

I've been a fan of jungle for years now I'm 20 and it's part of what made want to create music. But capturing that ethereal almost spiritual hopefulness/peacefulness perfect balance between repetition and variation of fast pacing drums and slow ambient pads and keys leads to some kind of introspection feeling to whoever listens to it, without talking about the composition. It almost seems like a product of it's time something that can't be recaptured nowadays, especially as the creative limitations have been pushed so far now, it makes me kinda sad but apreciate it so much more. What a gem this genre is!! My heart goes to all of the people inspired by this genre as I am allot.
Great mix love it!!
I am 37 and this music is music of my good young days.
So awesome!
One love!
I was less than 10 years old when these tracks were produced and hearing them now gives me a chance to relive my childhood with a new sense of appreciation. Not that I had heard any of this material when I was young, it just feels like these songs are timestamps of that era. The feeling I get from them now is of a hopeful future, similar to a transcendental sci-fi vibe. Feels good. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for listening.
Did you listen to those tracks when you were ~10? I haven't heard any music like this until i was at least over 25. Wonder how that sounded to a kid..
I'm 25, born in '98 but like to think I'm a 90s kid.
Just found this mix now and gotta say, scratches the ps1 style jungle amen break itch I've had for awhile now. Crazy to read comments from people that grew up with this.
Love it.

Hopefully there will be a return to these kind of tune. People still mix these beauties but I don't know of any producer making stuff like this nowadays

Put this to half speed. You'll see what the real journey is.

Thank you for keeping the rollers out there.
The pinnacle of dnb & jungle here. Reminds me of childhood. The sweet bliss & innocence of it all.

dont worry too much. its here.
There's something completely unique with oldschool DNB that I really miss in the new stuff coming out. That liquid and dreamy feel - seems so more ... yeah... intelligent! Keep it up :)
it just sounds futuristic. i'd like to think that these types of songs are like a musical personification of how a 90s person imagine the future will be like

This certainly hits that time and space. Such timeless music. I love listening to stuff like this on long drives. Especially out west just climbing through mountains, forests, descending into deserts. Ever changing scenery. Just a beautiful, chill, dreamy feeling journey.
First tune just makes you cut all manner of shapes and movements on the dancefloor. B Boy business. Legendary music
The golden age of D&B. Sensational.
Sensational, superb praise word. Lol
It obvious that a lot of work went into making this selection, then adding all the vinyl and CD case cover images into the video. Thank you very much for sharing it with the world!
This genre was and still is lightyears ahead of its time. They can't make anything as good as this nowadays, which is both sad and beautiful.
Also, RIP Shogun.

Look up "Mixed By Blick" on and go to his page on Mixcloud. You will find long, chilled out mixes just like these, and Blick has a quite a few of them. Some of them are not available for listening to depending on which country you are from because of licensing; in that case, use an inexpensive VPN like Mudfish and set location to Germany (or anywhere but USA tbh) to get around that. Happy listening! :)
I'm currently listening to 'Mixed By Blick - Mix 127 - Good Looking Semi Chilled' and just wow. Absolutely incredible tunes to drift away to.
I see alot of people here post about their experiences with this kind of music so hopefully this is cool to read for some of you. I had recently gotten into world of warcraft, and theres a certain part in this playlist (the alliance- virtual heaven) that just totally helped immerse me into the game like no other game has before. Me and three friends were just shooting the shit in discord, running on our newly bought mounts into stone talon mountains at like 3 in the morning, and funny enough it was also night time in the game. So this song comes on and me and my friends are quiet on the ride in, and we are riding past fellow horde members, and im staring at the in game stars while we were riding thoughtlessly into danger together again. All i said to my friends when we got to our destination was: "This is the greatest game ever made" and so, this playlist is also the greatest playlist ever made, and i cant tell any of you how many hours i spent grinding to this music.

An astonishingly beautiful tune to kick things off.
These tracks can still sit warmly in any musical era - futuristic thinkers & producers who were ahead of their time.
this is the reason why iam not giving up to belive that the internet is a mighty tool to connect people and make the world a little better. 1997 was mei primetime and listen to that music is a journey to all what makes myself and why iam in love with that kind of music. thank you so much mate!

As someone who is discovering the world of electronic music at 35, this selection just hits different from everything i heard so far. I'm firing Soulseek right now and i will search for every single record in this list. Thank you, Mr. Fredericks.
omg people still use soulseek? If your going to fire it up, then so am I! I don't think that I've used soulseek in what... ten years now? I love soulseek - perhaps the greatest way to search for cool stuff ever made. Hell maybe after I get done with soulseek I'll go check out Oink to get some uber-rare remix of a Hungarian drum and bass live set from 1997 that has only been heard by two people.

55 mow this era will never leave me 🙏🏽
I was just out of high school, aimless in college (but hopeful!) and new to the internet. I spent hours checking primitive websites for news about D&B, as it was hard to find where I grew up, and the 2 or 3 CDs I had at the time were ripped and on permanent rotation for these late-night D&B searches.
25 years later, I am a professor at a large research university, having gone through all kinds of hardship and physical pains. Yet this music takes me right back to those hope-filled days of my youth.
Music like this NEVER ages. Many thanks to these artists and for my fellow fans! Keep the bass high and your troubles low!
This music always sounded ahead of it's time it's crazy and cool
Big up for including Chameleon - Links. I keep this one in the box at all times because it works great as an opener/closer for a multitude of vibes.

This is absolutely lovely, big thanks for putting this together. These sounds are in another world compared to mainstream drum and bass today. I hear the same old snares and done to death basslines in modern sets by the biggest DJs and forget sometimes how diverse d’n’b used to be.
Exactly, dnb used to be a mix of a lot of different genres, which made it interesting. These days it is all synthetic, nothing of the original vibes anymore.
Richard D James (aka Aphex Twin) in one of his rare interviews reflected on that. He said something like "D'n'B used to be much more interesting when people were just trying everything out without knowledge of harmony and structure"
@@Choo-choo-chookcha I think this was the stuff he was saying he didn't like.

the only downside about stuff is that i yearn to go to huge raves with this music playing but i don’t know if i’ll get that chance : ( i may be a little infatuated with the 90s haha
Thanks for the upload... These tunes brings back so many memories... I was 17 in 1994 and remember many of these well. Hearing them in clubs for the first time then seeking them out in record shops to mix in friends houses, garages, basements and bedsits. Still love dnb.
