I love the effects of the blast in-game. Sadly, it's not actually realistic: tall, dense structures limit the effects of nuclear explosions considerably; with the firestorm created in the aftermath being what would kill a lot of people. Still, this is pretty cool. Thanks for putting it together! 👍

In that scenario, the buildings collapsing as a result of the shockwave would kill significantly more people than the firestorm, especially in agglomerations with a lot of high-rises. Most civilian infrastructure isn’t made to withstand that kind of overpressure, and the few survivers left would for the most part be trapped under thousands of tons of rubbles without any hope of recovery.

This would be a great simulator for game developers to use for apocalyptic world-building. So much so, I bet certain scenaros could be polished for in-game script/event design. That would make the depictions so much more dynamic, than what we see currently. One of the few I remember where we see this, is CodMw2 before raiding the city. The old original. And Fallout 3

Here’s a little backstory for the first scene.
June 2, 2025
The Israeli War which started in April of last year over territory disputes between Israel and its middle eastern neighbors as escalated drastically. What started as a couple small skirmishes has accumulated into a nuclear attack on the port city of Yeshuah. An Iranian nuclear missile struck Fort Jehoshaphat just outside of the city limits. Authorities are unsure at the moment how many casualties have been caused by this horrific disaster. It is expected that NATO will intervene in the conflict. This is Reese Hamilton, NPR News.

MOST COLD WAR TANKS WERE EQUIPPED WITH NBC PROTECTION SO, YES, THAT MAY BE SURVIVABLE FOR THE TANK CREWS.

Ahh dang. I’ve seen sped up Timelapse’s before, but in this video the way the camera seemed to move and fact that there was sound gave me hope that it was recorded “live”, that there was some kind of performance update. Ah well, Thanks for the reply!

The guy who did the nuke animation needs to add the 2nd phase. I keep waiting for it but it never happens! Lmao. It is supposed to collapse back to the center. A suction. Its like a splash. It blossoms and then collaspes back to normal pressure.
You should make a new series of outakes! It would look funny and good for people watching!

How do you get the game to run so smoothly?
Teardown has a new integrated recording feature that plays back all footage at what it should be like instead of 1 fps.
It's great for creators because they can record sound now instead of just speeding the video up.

Fun fact, if you lay down face first, breathe through your teeth, and clog your ears and eyes during a nuclear explosion, you’re more likely to survive than those who don’t since most initial deaths occur during the shockwave of the explosion, not the fireball.
