To stop the bubbles from forming on top. Put 91% rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the top a little bit before it hardens.

The lye alone yes. But when its mixed with the oils it doesnt remain in the finished soap
@@eli5848 The oils neutralize the lye so it's safe but you can't really breathe when it's out and not mixed in the oils

I make soap for my living. Next time you want to make melt and pour ( the kind of soap you used) Put some alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the top of the soap just after you finish pouring it into the mold and it makes all the bubbles go away. :D No mess

It is an amazing job to have. I enjoy it so much! I do use only natural ingredients. I only use sustainable oils that are thoughtfully collected so no palm oils, and all my soaps are vegan. No silks, milks or animal fats. I test all my soaps myself so no animal testing either. :)

A little FYI.... you need to spray with 100% isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the bubbles on the soap 😀😀😀 Plus spraying in-between laters helps them to bond together better.

Actually where I live, 100% isopropyl is hard to find, even if I ask the pharmacists if they have any behind the counter. And if I buy online it's about $30-$50 a bottle, where as even 91% at wal mart is only a few bucks, so yes I would actually say it IS a huge price difference.

What Corinne forgot to mention was, that you NEED A GLYCERIN SOAP BASE! I saw this video and i decided that i NEEDED to make this (like almost nobody else).So i bought 10$ worth of allot of soap bars and i spent a half an hour trying to melt normal soap bars, and i may or may not have started a fire

Hi, Corrine! It looks like you had some fun with this! Soap making like this is one of my hobbies, so if you want to do this again for fun, I have a few tips!
The bubbles on the top of the soap can be prevented and removed by filling a small spray bottle with alcohol. I use vodka! Spray your mold, pour the soap, and spray the top! No surgery needed! And if you're doing layers, like with the buzzfeed soap, the layers will adhere to each other better if you spray the top of each layer after the thin soap "skin" has formed.
One problem I have is breaking my molds. If the temperature of the melted soap is too high, it'll warp the plastic of the mold! So take a few seconds to let the soap cool once it's done melting before you start to pour. Its such a pain to get soap out of a warped mold!
One book that has a ton of ideas and helps me troubleshoot is called Melt & Mold Soap Crafting by C. Kaila Westerman. If you're interested, I bet you could find a copy on Amazon! It retails for $15, but was published in 2000, so I bet the price has gone down.

Hi, Corrine! These turned out awesome! I really like the look of them, and they definitely remind me of gemstones. I know this is a really old video, but I'm a soapmaker who makes cold process soap and the occasional batch of Melt and pour soap, and just wanted to give you some tips for if you ever wanted to do this project again.
Most melt & pour soap bases start to melt at around 120 degrees, so when you pour your layers, make sure the bottom layer has formed a "skin" strong enough to support the next layer and that the soap you're pouring is under 125 degrees. If you can touch it without it deforming too much, that's good enough. It also helps if you spray your layers with 91% rubbing alcohol before and after pouring them, because the alcohol will help the layers adhere together, and spraying the top if you've just poured it will pop all the tiny annoying bubbles (instead of simply scraping off that layer). Having one of those infrared thermometer guns is really helpful for projects like these. I hope this helps! :)

If you want to work with soap base again. You can spray some rubbing Alkohol on top. That makes the bubbles go away. Also if you spray the mild it's easier to release the soap after.
