You would catch more if you put a treble hook on it size ten then stick it in its eye and do a half hitch around the tail they always eat the minnows heads first while I are too picky. You need to use the treble hook I promise
Stinger hook. Use slip sinker and when the fish starts to bite let your line freespool for a 10 count then close your bail and pick up on the rod. In that 10 count with no line tension they will turn the bait and start swallowing it.
in the type of area you are fishing ,use a slip bobber set up just right off the bottom or use a lindy rig setup ,double single hook setup for head and tail ,for dragging .
Watched more hooks get baited than anything..But still enjoying the sauger fishing,we get some really nice 18-21 inch sauger out of my local creek, the MILLCREEK in Cincinnati
A typical walleye bite on a minnow when vertical fishing a walleye will bite light for a while. If you have patience eventually your rod will load and the tip will eventually go down slowly and at that time you set the hook. That is why some people troll walleye plugs so there isn’t any time for them to play with it. There were times when we tried to set the hook too early and the minnow would not have any skin on it. The lite bites were the walleye removing the skin.
Mark they are expensive but Gamakatsu makes a size four Aberdeen hook that is incredibly sharp ,,and if you try any you won’t use anything else anymore
@@TopKnoxFishing I guided twenty years here in nc and I never found another hook with that sharp of a tip ,,down side is a very small barb that has trouble keeping bait on ,,,but still we used them for probably five thousand small mouth n walleye with a great hook up rate.
Lake Norfork walleye still at times just bedevill the hell outta me but using live bait on a slip sinker rig either letting him run with it and not feel any tension works best but sometimes I can tease them by pulling my bait a couple inches when they peck and they'll get more aggressive letting me catch them
Those shad are a bit bigger than I'd use. Obviously they'll catch fish. But I think you'd hook up more is they were a little smaller. I know sometimes you just have to use what you have
Could that work with large crappie minnows.I have caught almost every fish E.Tn has except walleye and sauger always wanted to give it a try.I caught a 32 and three quarter inch walleye while striper fishing one time.
I wish there was a blu affect for the back ground so everyone and there mama don’t come to the place you catch fish at I hate how hard they are to hook

Check out Richard Gene the fishing machine and he shows a good way to catch them
I like watching Catfish Kyle, he fishes the way we do around here. Not those big big rivers.

You must have a good sauger population in that body of water. Usually when I go fishing I catch more walleye then sauger.🐟🎣🐟🎣

I swear by anything Gamakatsu!♥️♥️
@ on this hook ,,the very tip is curled in slightly and I think that makes the difference

I love free lining shiners below dams. I wonder if I have missed bites that way?
Use a jig head instead of a straight hook and sinker. It keeps the bait and hook horizontal, just like the fish would approach.
You are going to have to hold your rods. Just trying to help

Use a lead head and a 4 inch leader with a small treble hook
if that sinker was a slip sinker you would feel the bites a whole lot more
Biggest minnow bucket ever.....nice rig...
try using one rod and dont put it down to feel when they pick it up
ADHD go brrrrrr
Try setting your hook better pull faster unless using a circle hook
😊😊😊😊😊😊

Guys were using them and not catching much. Threads produced 10x more fish
What dam is that? I was at melton hill couple days ago couldnt get bit... is that chic havent been to that one yet.
Circle hook
Tried that the two previous trips
I wish there was a blu affect for the back ground so everyone and there mama don’t come to the place you catch fish at I hate how hard they are to hook
Why not jig fish?
circle hook
Guys the sauger are small and you are using 3" or 4" shad. You got to let them chew
Not sure why you lay the rod down , as hard as they are to catch
Yup
Whats he calling them?
Threadfin shad
@ but what are you catching? You say some other name that sounds like swaga or something
Soggy?
