When you look for some explanation about these two methods and stumble accross things in Portuguese in an English video, I'm from Brazil btw. Good intro.
The distinction between qualitative and quantitative is related to problem solving: qualitative is what we want, or in other words, what problem we want to solve; whereases quantitative is what is the current state, where we objectively are instead of the destination, what is objectively the truth. Am i right?

Surveys are not qualitative, they are mostly close-ended questions, used for quantitative research. Interviews are qualitative.
