My prayers are with the firefighters & anyone it is path. I pray they can protect the observatory and everyone's homes. My brother & his roomate lost everything in the Lake fire a few weeks back. So devastating! I do wonder just how many of these fires are started on purpose. Arsonists should be dropped from a helicopter right into the middle of the fire they start. So much wildlife is lost in these fires. Truly sad!

Years ago these mountains were crisscrossed with fire breaks that were well maintained and prevented such wild fire spread such as this. Why was this system abandoned? What did they do with the monies that were originally earmarked for maintaining these older control methods? Why do we have such poor management of this states resources? Why do the stupid politicians find it so easy to Blame their mistakes on global warming, a myth! This fire started as a small 1,000 acre fire and has now grown to over 100,000 acres. Why wasn’t enough assets put on this fire to prevent this? Why doesn’t this state have a prevention program to prevent or to control these fires? Where is the money going? Why don’t we have political leaders that will do something to prevent or control these fires? Why?
A fire break probably doesn’t,t work when the wind is blowing at 30 to 50 miles an hour and it is really dry. embers can probably start fires several miles away

@@ericunderwood1482 Helicopters are great the way they can get water from swimming pools & Golf course water hazards is fabulous but they can't pickup & drop as much retardant as even a Air Tractor Fire Boss in an hour say let alone the Bombardier/Canadair CL 215/415/515 Super Scooper Water Bombers. LA's got a couple full time now & a couple more come down from Quebec every winter as well. I know the Fire Boss's are used by a lot of Northern US States because of the cost of a large water bomber but when you're leasing Sky Crane's a Super Scoopers just not that expensive. The made in America Fire Boss's are an excellent spotter & first attack plane's that doesn't have to return to the airport except to refuel & they cost less than the Helicopter water bombers.

If they had brought enough aerial equipment they should have been able to control it and limit it to that area. But other fires limited what equipment was available! Miss management has limited the amount of available equipment in Calif. our politicians would rather blame this on global warming than work at finding the ways to limit this problem, it’s much easier!
