- For 65 years the town of Capitola, California, was host to an annual Begonia Festival. The signature event of each festival was the nautical parade of decorated floats down Soquel Creek. This documentary was commissioned on the occasion of the 65th and final festival in 2017.
Nice! I was born and raised in Santa Cruz (Aptos) before getting married and moving onto a boat. Now I am preparing to sail around the world! I miss the begonia festival, and wish they would bring it back
I never will forget the beauty of that festival..oh I wish it would come back!
Same for me, I always wanted to attend it while vacationing in Capitola but never had the chance too.
We have 35mm slides of the Begonia festival in the 50's and 60's.
In 1959 or 1960 there is a picture in the Santa Cruz Sentinal of a new float design tieing 4 steel 55 gallon drums together as float based. And surprised there are no pictures of the Begonia Festival Parade no boats but cars up by 41st and portola
If margaritaville could talk
Man the stories
Cheers
