Mendelssohn’s ninth symphony is, at beginning, more solemn since it starts with an Adagio and Grave, then slips in a divine and talent way to an Alegro, the transition is achieved imperceptibly. It follows a more serious Adagio although with a sublime sensitivity and a superb cadence. The Menuetto is fantastic and of unparalleled harmony. The symphony ends, as usual, by an impetuous Allegro Molto. I frankly have no words to classify this musical masterpiece. The set of strings that interpret this symphony are amazing with fabulous sonority and sensitivity.

starting of the adagio movement sounds like it's inspired by the introduction of the first movement of mozart's dissonance quartet.

Mozart would be very proud of this Mendelsohn well-constructed symphony and its awesome counterpoint, he was truly a genius young man by composing this series of symphonies only at 13-14 years old. remarkable, just listening to this particular píece brings me to tears of joy and encourages me to keep going further into music and improve myself as a musician. God bless Mr. Mendelssohn and Thank you for your wonderful music. My only hope is if there is the afterlife, you'll be there still young composing more and more beautiful music, and if I'm lucky enough when I die, be the witness of God's prodigal son creating wonders.

This one unlike the others is full of so many unexpected surprises like that modulation at 20:28

Well, Mozart's influence is everywhere in young Mendelssohn. ;)

@@SPscorevideos So is Bach's! I just learned that Mendelssohn wrote his string symphonies right after taking fugues lessons from Bach's student's student.

Imagine, just for a fleeting moment, a musical coordination and combination of Mendelssohn and Rossini string symphonies/sonatas.

No more like the late symphonies of Haydn and Mozart

Just a note, the final movement is marked "III. Allegro molto" instead of "IV. Allegro molto". (In your comment as well as in the description)

I didn't get the notation for solo cello (?!) in the slow 2nd movement of Mendelssohn's String Symphony No 8 - I'll have to look at that again!

Also Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 8 is in the prevailing tonality of D Major not D Minor.

Not to be a technical fuss budget; it's a nice piece of music, catchier than some of Mendelssohn's chamber works.

@@SPscorevideosThere is, and a bass solo! My school is playing it for a concert this evening, and the second movement is just a quintet

@@l.planteAs you can see, the slow movement is scored for three viola parts and bass. Your school is playing a transcription. :)
