With how Elden Ring is designed, I imagine there will be more than just those two. That will probably be the main story though - I am really hoping, if they take this into the dream/spirit world, that we get to see the rot god and maybe even the blind swordsman.
Yeah I would expect some new stuff as well. I didnt get into that in the video as it was focused on "what we know" but Im really excited for what completely new stuff they give us
That's child Miquella on Torrent. The demigods in the game are significantly taller than the player characters. Take Ranni's corpse or Malenia's hieght for example, they would roughly be the size of an adult demigod. Miquella being that size on Torrent would mean he's still a child there.
Other than that, I wonder if this DLC will expand upon Malenia, given she calls you "sweet" and "companion" in her cut dialogue lines.
Miquellas curse is literally that he doesn't grow and is forever a child.... so that being child Miquella doesn't add or detract anything from speculation about what we are seeing.
I'm betting the "Abundance ending" we might be getting would require Malenia to be alive,and I'm betting a different use for the hollowbrand

Look, I'm telling yall, it's Miquella, the DLC is post end game, Miquella is going to wake up and see that we have become Elden Lord, he is going to be very angry we defeated Melania, he is going to raise an army and challenge us for the Elden Throne. Trust me
When I look at Godwyn's body down in Deeproor Depths it looks like there could be a tree growing out of him, rather than him being connected to the Erdtree's roots. So maybe that's the tree in the image?
Yeah I could see it growing out of him, as branches/roots are already doing so
Yes, that is the Deathroot. Those things you collect to feed Gurranq at the Beastial Sanctum (Gurranq is also likely an alter ego of Maliketh, Merica’s shadow). These Deathroot originate from Godwyn’s corpse and are a biproduct of a demigod being killed by a piece of the rune of death. I imagine the DLC will expand on this: why did Ranni kill Godwyn (other than clearing a path for her age of stars), did Merica allow for it to happen to create “strife” and thus “growth”, was Miquella aware the entire time and had a plan (which might explain some of the deathbed companion’s roles), and was Miquella using Mohg to help ascend him closer to a “god”.
The DLC will likely heavily revolve around the Deathroot, the Haligtree, and their related demigods
@Cuphead Gurranq and Maliketh being the same being is confirmed by his transformation during the Maliketh boss fight. His dialogue also changes before the fight, depending on whether you've fed him all the obtainable deathroots or not.
Miquella is a child demigod, not just any child. Melania is very tall, and in the statues where the twins are holding each other in the Haligtree, Miquella seems to be about the same size compared to Melania as the player character is when fighting her.
Radahn showed similar signs of gigantism and radagon is said to have some giant in him so it would makes sense he would be really large even as a child
@clintonbehrends4659 Yeah, but it seems like radahn literally inherited giant genes, as radagon had red hair due to the giants curse placed on Marika. And most of the other races that aren't human are much bigger than humans/tarnished, which is common amongst from soft games. Gwyn, Gwynevere and gwyndolin from ds1, forsaken king from ds3.
I don’t believe that is it Miquella depicted as an adult in the artwork. Torrent is actually quite small, more pony sized than horse sized relative to our Tarnished.
In game, you see that the Tarnished sitting upright and at the same angle as the image completely dwarfs Torrent. Our head rises far above Torrent’s horns and our legs easily reach to his belly (despite sitting atop a saddle with stirrups). This is the case even when leaning forward like the subject in the image while galloping.
The subject makes Torrent look more horse sized than pony sized. This leads me to believe that this is a child sized person riding Torrent. All this leads me to believe that it is in fact Miquella still in their child form.
Whether this is because Miquella has yet to enter the cocoon, or because this is Miquella in a dream world I’m unsure.
I'd be surprised to see if Miq is in a dream world and still a child, but maybe that would mean his idea of himself is child-sized. interested to see some actual DLC gameplay like a trailer to get a better perspective

When Malenia describes her dream in her first cutscene, she describes rotting away while waiting for miquella
@@MadLuigi well the thing that I found is that adult demigods seems twice as taller than the tarnished and miqualla being a child having the same height or less as tarnished means she's a child in Demigod race
as for humans that exact size would consider anyone an adult or a teen
Another aspect is that the ground texture of the Altus Plateau is an autumnal scene similar to the remnants of harvested wheat.
Of any of the current areas, Altus def has the most connection thematically, so yeah! Even more support for the Hideaway theory?
Wheat also has prominent symbolism in christian mythology as a symbol of resurrection
Oh interesting. There is plenty of christian mythology/influence in the game obv, but thats not a piece of irl "lore" I had heard before! Would definitely vibe with all the other themes
Deathblight is going to be super broken a scary in the new dlc.

Miquella and godwyn is exactly what I wanted in the DLC. Only thing missing is GEQ and the helphen. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Edit: also this being called an expansion instead of dlc along with the long timeline planned before release gets my hopes up it will be BIG.

I do see your point but I have to disagree with one thing: I believe we know much less about Marika than about Miquella. We have a pretty good understanding of Miquella's motivations: He wants to heal Malenia from the rot, he wants grant Godwyn a proper life/death & he wants to grow an alternative Erdtree which is accepting of all life "whether graceful or malign". We also know how Miquella wants to achieve all these: Unalloyed Gold, using the Eclipse to revive Godwyn, using his blood to grow the Haligtree. Sure, some details are missing like what exactly the Eclipse is or why Miquella took on the alter ego of St. Trina but these are small. On the other hand, we know barely anything about Marika. We don't know why she was chosen as Empyrean, we don't know why she sent Godfrey away (possibly to let them grow strong outside of the influence of the Greater Will, but...), we don't know why she seems to have plans against the Greater Will. We don't know why she shattered the Erdtree, why she removed the Rune of Death and most importantly: What exactly is her relationship with Radagon? Marika's story is, in my opinion, a lot more mysterious than Miquella's-
I bet it'll add to the endings too. An age of Abundance (the new goodest ending) and a new Godwyn ending (baddest ending)
Hopefully it involves helping Miquella achieve his goal of curing his siblings so we can maybe have one stupid win throughout the whole game
Love the video and I full heartedly agree. Also the figure being Marika doesn’t make any sense to me as well, mainly because of both the context of the picture but also Miquella is I’m pretty sure the only demi god that wears white and color is important in Elden Ring so I would find it funny to have Marika, who is usually depicted wearing black with a sleeveless dress, to now be depicted with a white gown. But I guess I could get Miyazaki’d and have everything be flipped on it’s head when the dlc rolls around.
Also I can’t wait for the dlc to come out and have Torrent be stolen at gun point by Miquella while we’re like in the middle of a death blight swamp.
Exactly, no matter how you look at it, the character in the picture simply had nothing that resemble Marika except for may be the hair color and that's it. I'm baffled that so many people actually had that thought to begin with.
Thanks! And yeah good note on the clothing as well. There are the arm bands, but the stark white vs black is a pretty big divergence. Miquella stealing Torrent "back" would be quite a development. Give an actual lore reason why we couldnt use him in a dungeon

It’s also golden wheat. Miquella dealt with unalloyed gold and the needle he made looks like grain of wheat. What is interesting is that in the entire game, godwyn and miquella aren’t there, only their bodies. With godwyn we enter Fias dream and miquella is already associated with dreams. Maybe in some way they have kept some form of connection. They’re also both near or an actual tree. I wouldn’t be surprised if godwyn and miquella fuse into one god since the game has alot of themes of converging which is why we see miquella as an adult (could be a fused version of both of them). Not to mention their mother has done the exact same thing before. The tree in the picture may signify miquella and godwyn fusing since individually they’re both weak and it could look like what? GRAFTING! Their other family member godrick the grafted dealt with fusing with “dead things” liek the dragon head and grafting usually deals with trees or plants and these two gods that are left are literally trees, roots (DEATH roots) etc grafting doesn’t seem far off and that could be seen as some form of convergence/fusion. The golden sap representing marikas golden lineage/genes and its power/capability. Maybe in this dream since Miquella is implied to he asleep maybe he somehow finds godwyn, converge/graft into one might dream god or soemthing.

if miquella was in the dreamworld this whole time, maybe that explains why melania (afaik) wasnt searching for miquella. like i know shes got no eyes but id assume someone wouldve told her about mogh raiding the place and the gaping hole where miquella is supposed to be.
instead maybe she was actually seeing him this whole time in her dreams, that leaves only for me to assume that miquellas blood/body is no longer viable because its probably tainted by mogh, thus making his body useless.
that means if theres no point in defending/finding the body and no real way to attack miquella from the real world, then melania is on standby at the haligtree to bide her time, well thats what i think the plan was until a tarnished shows up lol
I have heard a bit about Miquella/St. Trina connecting or communicating through dreams, so that would allow for the possibility you describe. And then we'd have a good reason for why Melania is just afk in the room
in my opinion the place around miquella is forbidden from entry which is why she attacks us the moment we enter. no one knows miquella was kidnapped because all of malenia's forces left to fight radahn. and finally malenia herself is blind.

@@blargminton would malenia really leave her very vulnerable and very important (like world changing important) brother unguarded? sure the haligtree is hidden, but the albinaurics seem to know where it is, and all you need is one tarnished, one demigod or one all knowing to get that info from them. then all thats left is whoevers home to defend the place. and even on the off chance that there was not one guard in the whole haligtree, the denizens of the haligtree would still be around to witness
@@MattSpoon07 if fromsoft went with that, i have no doubt that itd be awesome, but i dont think thats what theyre gonna do. mainly because that will mean fromsoft is technically taking players choice away from the ending they chose.
because that would rule out two of the biggest endings with unique epilogues, for example i assume there is nothing left in the frenzy ending and even if theres a way to survive, the erdtree is destroyed, making its depiction in the art wrong (its only art tho so it could change).
as for rannis ending, iirc in the original japanese and some english dialogue, its implied that the player and ranni separates themselves from the world making interaction with them, impossible and largely free of any outer god influence (which imo is what miquella intends to do for the most part).

I think you are spot-on other than the character stories being complete. They will however be complete enough that we may never hear more about them afterwards.
Also!!!! Your thoughts on it Being Deathroot make sense when you consider the Age of The Duskborn ending. The Erdtree takes on a blackish hue with little gold as black ash and rain fall around it.

Actually on Haligtree right before you enter the gate guarded by the erdtree roten avatar take the horizontal pillar defeat the haligtree soldiers and take a peak to what looks like the land and sky of the DLC poster also all the soldiers are looking that way

When you fight Mohgwyn, in the cutscene he mentions Miquella while holding the hand hanging out of the cocoon.
In any new play through or NG+ intro, one of the pictures is Moghwyn when it’s talking about Queen Marika’s offspring, and draped on Mohgwyn’s left arm is a young child with long golden braided hair, EXACTLY like the picture in this DLC they released. 100% Miquella.
i think everyone is forgetting something when it comes to the side saddle thing: it wasnt invented to be a feminine way of riding, it was a way of riding in a robe or dress. Man or woman if thats what youre wearing, thats how youre riding.
So then it would just imply royalty/high class here? as they are ones who'd wear fancy robes

I love the idea of entering the DLC by this statue/St. Trina's hideway. What's even more intriguing is that this is where we find Amber Starlight Shards, said to control the fate of the demigods. I can't help but imagine there will be another use of that Amber Starlight in the DLC. I believe it will definitely be either at this location or in the depths of Castle Stormveil close to the shaded statue or Godwyn's head. Or perhaps both will be utilized. I also can't wait to get more items and details related to St. Trina in the DLC. I would love to get my hands on the armor of their clerics with which they wielded the sleep sword we can find in-game. Also look forward to that Twinblade of Abundance and perhaps a complete set of Unalloyed Gold Armor. I don't even know where to begin imagining Godwyn related items!

@@colinnixon7739 I would initially have agreed with you, but this is a very late and difficult spot to get to for most players. So for their most successful and accessible game, it would make sense for them to make the DLC accessible early on, no? Granted the team will do it however they want and, especially naming the grace there cocoon of the empyrean, and leaving it set up perfectly for DLC implications, then yes that is very likely.

Hope they add unlimited larval tear to the shops. Didn’t know they aren’t farmable and got stuck on a build that luckily was good but I loved changing builds daily till i realized I coulda got stuck with a meme build I don’t even enjoy. Also better for being able to experiment in pvp without needing to go into new game plus

Miquella is a demigod. why are people trying to look at his size to decide if he's an adult or not? look at radahn, he's enormous! a child radahn would be double the players size, it isnt unbelievable that Miquella is still a child in that image, just because he's a child doesnt mean he isnt still a demigod
This is a good point, but Wraff defends her argument on that front well. The statues of Malenia and Miquella in-game show Malenia growing in size relative to Miq. So its not crazy to say that the size of the character bears some bearing on the conversation. Obv I think there are reasons around this as I say in the vid. but theres something to say there

I think the ruined architecture is nox in origin. There is very similar, albeit not perfect, reliefs in siofra and nokron. I haven't confirmed but I'd wager similar reliefs are in the nameless city and nokstella too.
Also based off observation the coffins in the field are more like the ones we use to get around underground, rather than the wolf guarded graveyards above ground. You can see the sides have no extra detailing like the moving coffins underground.

New to dark souls, what can I expect from the dlcs? Is it just like a story or new weapons is it massive or like a little add on that could’ve been a 9.99 micro transaction? Will do they usually do story continuations or like something completely different?
From my experience, we'll be in for a real treat. All of that. DLCs from past FromSoft games have all had some of the best areas, Boss fights, weapons and armor, and story additions. Usually it's not part of the main story and takes the opportunity to explore new ideas. DS1 was a time travel to contextualize an important figure who's grave was visited in the main game. DS2 was a visit to 3 adjacent Kingdoms each influenced by respective Daughters of a Dark deity and told the story of how those kingdoms fell. DS3 let us visit a painted world and a new kingdom at the end of time (it also depicted a lot of eclipse imagery like what we might expect in ER DLC). And Bloodborne sort of played with the idea of a dream while also telling the story of the past and what an older generation of hunters did to cause the present of the main game. Expect unique weapons and armor, great bosses, and a distinct ambience that separates it from the main game. I have high expectations for sure.
I Hope there will be More than one story dlc , the lore is just so expansive and confusing.

Wonder if it'll take place in the future instead of the past. Like its a wasteland after one of the endings and Miquella has had time to regenerate.

1:50 how do we know he's an adult in this photo dream? Most of the demi gods and gods are huge, so who is to say a little boy is as tall as a tarnished?
I've seen some comments around the character being Marika for its the size of an adult, compared to Torrent, but no one is taking into consideration that we're dealing with very tall beings here. that could very much be a young child Miquella, taller than the tarnished, riding Torrent. Even when comparing the painting of Mohg carrying Miquella in his arms, Miquella is still bigger than the tarnished.
Wouldnt the statues of M+M show that Miq stopped growing and was probably small?
@@MadLuigi I guess, but small in comparison to what? The statues depicting Miquella and Malenia show a kid (age unknown) so Miquella did grow to a certain point. My point is that this age plateau makes them bigger than the tarnished. So where some people see a young Marika, I see a child Miquella. The side saddle clearly points to their androgynous duality of being (st Trina). But that’s just my take on it.
That person on the horse definitely looks like a child to me, I would say around 12 or 13. I don't see how anyone could think that looks like an adult, maybe a 18 year old that looks 13 but that boggles my mind that anyone could look at that picture and see an adult riding that horse.

She is sitting side ways on Torrent the same way Melina sat on torrent in the game intro when Torrent “choose” the tarnished.
“But Melina has short hair” yes that’s because she is burnt and bodiless. Her true form probably has long hair like it’s depicted by the statue in Maliketh’s boss room in Farum Azula.

I love to see all these new MMOs that look amazing, but gameplay-wise are lacking being hyped up as "the next Elden Ring". This DLC is gonna take a dump on all of them and will probably cement this as the greatest video game of the 21st century. Low key, I also besides Godwin and Miquella, would like a Rani boss fight, I would like her to relate to the DLC somehow, since she orchestrated Godwin’s death, her ending is good but she gives me a bad vibe
I think it makes sense for this dlc to include Godwyn and Miquella because in the main game we get to meet or fight all the demigod child mentioned except the two above, and also fight their fathers.

So you’re saying let’s just throw all logic aside, ignore the lore that was set out clearly hinting at everything in this image and just go with it being a brand new character who just happens to look exactly like Miquella riding towards a tree with deathblight colour palette - what information presented would give that impression?
It's not a hill I'm dying on, I just prefer not to speculate when the pieces of the puzzle are still being invented. All theories are valid.

@Jay You seem to be under the impression that I am pushing or confident that I believe it is a new npc or other. I'm not making propositions, only open to possibilities. Gazing so hard at only what we are given blinds us to the opportunity for creative expansion. There's things we know, there's things we know that we don't know, and there's things we don't know that we don't know. I am in no way denouncing anyone else's theory, I simply wanted to express that I'm still open to other possibilities and not yet draw a conclusion. I'm excited no matter the outcome.
I feel like if miquella would be a boss they'd have to do it so different because of the lothric brothers in ds3. Would love to seem some kind of knightmare amalgamation of Goldwyn and miquella corrupted by death root and go full on cosmic horror
That would be a grand thing for cosmic horror. And could play a multi-phase well with both of them. Will be interested to see what we get!

When I first saw the image I figured the 2 trees symbolized marika and radagons struggle for dominance, but its possible Godwyns death tree grew bigger. But the ingame erdtree is already leaning like the other tree is weighing it down, I think we just dont see it, like how some people cant see the erdtree

Am I the only one who, when you look to the right of the tree to see Godwin’s face in the clouds, clouds, Berra, striking resemblance to the appearance of his face under Stormville. And the architecture looks very similar to the tops of the wandering mausoleums.
WE ARE GETTING A THIRD LAYER. Just like in the image of Yggdrasil. There are 3 layers. Asgard, Midgard, and Helheim.
Miquella's plan succeeded just not in the way people had hoped. He was able to travel to Helheim by putting himself in the Haligtree, thus becoming Saint Trina, being able to move through space and time.
Saint Trina was able to manipulate the entire story of Elden Ring by being the Snowy Crone, teaching Ranni about the Dark moon and giving Torrent to Melina. The mystery lies with why Miquella/St Trina/Snowy Crone would want with us. But i imagine we will get a third layer and travel to the "spirit world" where we will encounter Godwyn, Miquella and hopefully Merika.
Also, since there are so many literal references to Shadows in Elden Ring (Ranni having Blaidd and Merika having Maliketh), what if Torrent is the Shadow of Miquella, that is why he is so sure with guiding us. Secondly, what if the ErdTree itself has a Shadow and that is the tree we see in the image? Questions......
Almost exactly this, in Elden ring the land of the dead/spirit realm is described as having a giant tree called the Helphen,(it is the source of a red lamplight which guides the dead and looks like grace) which I’m pretty sure is the tree in the distance
From the carving above the arena at the base of the Erdtree, we can see a depiction of three separate trees stuck together (called The Great Tree) and the Elden Ring being added between the bottom two sections, the crucible having been the deeper set of roots it first joined to and the erdtree being the main trunk which it’s influence later grew into. The carving also depicts the Elden star’s commit falling through the top of the third section of The Great Tree which the Erdtree seen in game appears to be lacking, but this new tree looks like it and matches the description of the Helphen if a lot more damaged, and with the massive golden trail through the trunk we can infer it is the top third of the great tree
From this we can tell the part very obviously missing from the tree, it is meant to have a red glowing spot near the branches, which is obviously missingmissing, and the gold seen here does not look like the reddy gold of the crucible and thus the early Elden Ring but instead is clean and pure, something else has clearly been added.
I believe Destined Death was up there and mixed with the commit when they came to a stop at what would become the crucible, after it was removed it was then hidden away and guarded to prevent it holding any power in the land of the dead, and allowing the eldenring to replace the old red lamp light with one of gold and spread it in the land of the living, we’ve got a lot to look forward to in this dlc

I think the person on Torrent looks like a child. Malenia as an adult is tall, taller than us - players. How do we know what Miquella looked like as a child? His curse is to be forever young, not small (we don't know when he stopped growing, we only have statues that can show us what he looked like next to Malenia, but they are also only statues, so they may be out of proportion for art). My point is: he was a kid, but kids are different, and his parent was Radagon and Marika, so... Besides, in the drawing with Mohg, he doesn't look tiny either.
I believe there are statues that show M+M as the same size (makes sense as same age twins) when young. And then other statues show Mal growing and being bigger than Miq with Miq staying the same size. So, i'd think that Miq is a literal small child, until cocoon/blood cocoon/dream developments ofc
@@MadLuigi Yes, but still if Malenia is bigger than us I think there's a chance that as an Empyrean kid he might be a bit bigger than a normal child in the sense that the person on the torrent in the DLC image is definitely not an adult - it was to comment that "the rider looks to be adult". Maybe for some this person is a bit bigger (in build or height) than a normal child, but from what we see, it is a child, at least for me too.
If this dlc is just about these two and takes place in a dream world I'm going to be severely dissatisfied, especially if they don't build upon the end of the game.
Considering they're calling it an expansion, I hope this isn't the case.
The more I think about it the more I feel like we are going to eventually have to choose a side between miquella and godwyn & Ranni. I don't think ranni's quest is fully complete. I do think this expansion will be based around Godwyn and miquella will play a huge role.

I have always been and am still in the group of people who believes Miquella is and has always been, devious. He was forced to portray himself as a benevolent due to his curse. He was using this curse to his advantage. His desire to “help” his brother is likely due to his brothers current form being the only true adversary. He wondered the land to find a cure for himself and I believe he found Magh and struck a deal with him as HIS outer god had the ability to grant him his one true desire. Mahg treats Miquellas cocooned form with great respect and feverishly protects him. They are partners in crime and hence why Miquella learned to use his blood in his sorceries in his later years, after the Golden Order failed to provide him a cure
I'm torn on this front. On one hand, the idea of Miquella being secretly evil is very intriguing. That means FromSoft did a DAMN good job of writing his supernatural compulsion and I would be terrified of him being evil. However, he is also, at least presentably, the most purehearted demigod and it'd be nice to have at least one of those with pure intentions and lead to a new good ending.
That makes no sense. That's like saying ranni is (well.she was) mischievous, so she's bad. They was all plotting. All of them even Marika.
Miquella is the only one besides ranni to successfully fend off outer god influences. They probably hated him lol
