Great idea using the End Times as an example of sweeping retcons that did not work. The End Times absolutely sucked and demonstrated GW's complete lack of respect for the lore they've established over the years. It's a strange state of mind to love the lore and models but absolutely despise the company that produces those things. There are good people working in the customer service and sculpting teams at GW, to be fair.
There were different factors with the end times. GW did the end times because the old world didn't sell. For example, one space marine kit (the assault squad) out sold the entire old world line (at that time fantasy). At the time it seemed like it made sense. Ironically a bunch of games and media then came out that were set in the old world and reignited interest in the setting. Couldn't be worse timing. They gambled and they screwed themselves, but considering the situation at the time, it's not hard to see why
@@BrandonGiordano You're correctly explaining why it was a good idea to shut down Fantasy at the time, however, the issue with End Times is that it's lore was awful and several parts made little sense. As is, some characters acted very differently than in established lore.
GW is just flat out lying to us. Lying to our faces and then having some of their sycophant supporters attack those who oppose this as "bigots". It's so tiresome and unnecessary. I have been a GW customer since 1994, spending tens of thousands of dollars on their products. I will not spend another penny on GW stuff. I'm done.
Maybe GW doesn't understand that there are thousands of guys just like you looking for a strong enough reason to break their addiction to plastic crack. Good luck fren. ❤️
The interesting thing is that we can go back to pervious edition of codexes, 3d print our miniatures and disregard the retcons as much as we like... The primaris were one thing but the resent changes are stupid to say the least. Put another way we didn't need GW as much as GW thought and they overplayed their hand and crossed the line of the community's good will. I could go on but I don't think I need to.
3d Printing is an existential threat to GW. Instead of using that to push book sales, they've instead decided to wage war on their customer base, while also trying to extract ever more money from them. The end result is probably that, yeah, people are going to latch onto older editions and hold onto those.
@@KingLich451 honestly its a bit of a mixed bag of pros and cons: Pros: 3d printing services seem to be on a steady rise especially in the US and Australia and seem to be fast and reliable. Cons: in the UK (where I live) and the EU it's seems to be quite questionable in terms of speed and reliability... But worse of all is the shipping tariffs both here in the UK and in the EU seem to be slowing down growth significantly prices get a bit more than in the US but by comparison with GW you are way better of. Just make sure that you have a PayPal account otherwise you might not be able to get what you want.
Great analysis. I never fully appreciated until now, the potential disastrous consequences of mainstream appeal of our beloved hobby. 35 or so years ago, when pearls weren't clutched so tightly as they are, now, I was an avid fan, and sometine player of the paper and dice roleplaying game, Call of Cthulhu. I imagine you may have heard of it. It was, and remains, a wonderful game, set in the worlds of H.P. Lovecraft. One of its saving graces, is that its circulation was small enough to evade the censorious, puritanical eye of the mainstream press. Consequently, the grimoire section was gruesome enough to appeal to imaginative adolescent boys, as I was, then. But my mother got wind of it, and took me to see a local priest, worried that I had fallen to The Ruinous Powers! I mention this, because I now share your prediction, that as the Grimdark we all love is held up to wider public scrutiny, the sanitising busybodies among us will set to work, dismantling it.
by "sanitization" i assume you mean the whole um, yk weird sorta removal of the fact that all the cultists worshiping this evil elder god are all.. not white? And the book kinda ends with the author being scared that any minority could secretly be out to get them? Idk if youve read the books or not but if you have then this just makes your comment awhole lot more, um, silly to put it as lightly as possible 😅
One of my hated retcons was what they did between the fight between horus and the emperor. Ollanius pious would always just be a random guardsmen to me
The warhammer universe has been bought and sold long ago. It died the moment it couldn't voice all of the extremities necessary to make it a grimdark universe. It was never meant to be child's game.
Ironically, many of us got into GW when we were children - because children love getting into things that are not for children. It's like when we wanted to watch Alien but our parents wouldn't let us. That just made it way more interesting.
Games Workshop's recent actions are just heresy enough to unite, Tau, Chaos, Imperium, Orks, Necroms, Eldar, and Tyranids under one banner. He who stands with me against Games Workshop shall be my brother/sister. Regardless if they are xenos, heretic, or human.
Now that's a stand that I support! Just for once, we should unite under one banner, regardless of our political affiliations that only divide us stupidly, and fight against the REAL enemy of Warhammer franchise: Games Workshop (and its dumb business practices)! Just imagine you all: All necron dinasties united; Chaos undivided once more; Eldar and Drukhari reconciled; all Ork waaaghs gathered; Tyranids in a righteous feast of unworthy biomass; the T'au empire in all its glory with The Farsight Enclaves together against real cruel "galactical" rulers; The Omnissiah making itself manifest at last to guide nobly The Adeptus Mechanicus; and The Imperium of Man, reborn and cleansed of all its past sins and crimes with The Emperor once again walking among us, saved purely due the exercise of our better nature, reuniting and reunited with his angels, sons and daughters to an ultimate crusade not only for humanity's sake but for all xenos of good will partaking in that fight! And all that embodied by the real upholders of this setting: WE, THE PLAYERS! (And those that are only invested in the lore like myself) Hell, I believe that even Erebus would be at your side against "the greatest scorpion" that is GW! (Just let none of us turn any of our back to him, just to be safe). Alright, I'm exaggerating a lot but a guy can dream dammit! It would be wonderful if, one day, that could happen within the fandom and that would save the franchise! We could all sing together something like: FOR THE GREATER GOOD! FOR THE EMPEROR! WAAAAAAAAGH! Anyway, hail to you brother! ❤
@@kamikuru4014 It's not the Retcon that pissed me off. It's GW's stance against FAN PROJECTS. Emperor TTS was FORCED into indefinite hiatus because of it.
You very eloquently tied together some very impactful events that were a gut punch to my love of Warhammer. You were insightful to not only compare the Stormcast with the Custodes, but to also ask if 40k will undergo large changes similar to Age of Sigmar. I also like how you brought up how Games Workshop is typically more slow and nuanced with how they introduce changes. The way the brought up the Custodes changes makes me wonder if this is the first in a series of bigger changes. You talking about sanitizing Slaanesh is what made me question this. Is 40k about to become a much more sterile, family-friendly product? The inclusion of women into the Custodes isn't a huge change unto itself, but it might harken to an overall tonal shift for the entire setting. This was a great video, I'm thankful you made it.
Well said. It's honestly about GW dilluting their own franchise since some recent years. Who cares about female custodes or not, it's about losing the identity and main motives of the franchise, and this being the one of many steps in that. Were you aware, that adding female custodians were a move forced on GW by Amazon, while producing Warhammer Movie with Henry Cavill? Apparently Amazon were hellbent on adding female custodians in the name of diversity, not even considering sisters of battle, sisters of silence or regular female 40k characters, because they wanted the most powerful marine fantasy with the female face, not caring about the lore.
40K lore quite frankly started to get worse when they decided the story had to move on. We had a great setting, that could be expanded upon with no limits. You could create new characters, new wars, new crisis, new factions. There was no limits, because the setting was huge and anything brought up could be justified as "the galaxy is so vast, it's the first time we hear of this" or "this happened in M36.941, it's been purged from the records". Instead, they wanted to have a storyline that'd be moving on. So they did. And 40K suffered Marvelization. "Oh hey, let's bring back Primarchs, because we need super heroes that will be the face of our franchise. And let's bring the evil Primarchs too, because we need super bad guys. If we bring one every year or so, it will boost sales too!". This led to the overwhelming focus on Space Marines, at the expanse of pretty much every other faction, the creation of Primaris, and the blurring of the lines between the identity of all factions (or rather, to Marines doing what all the others do or used to do). TDLR, 40K suffered from americanisation.
Old Warhammer had a certain British charm to it that has later been lost. It wasn't JUST extreme and grimdark, it was also humorous and intelligent. Nowadays, it just seems to try too hard to be awesome. I think you are right about the Marvelisation/Americanisation.
You mean the like.. maybe 6 whole models? Honestly this reminds me of like, the whole boy toys versus girl toys thing where the boy toys where SO COOL WITH ALL THE LITTLE GIZMOS AND FUN FEATURES and then the girl toys were like, a doll house, a doll to go inside said house, a hair brush. God forbid women have anything ig

@@manuelcordoba5394 "see? You also have dolls! They might not be as cool or as fun or as interesting or as fleshed out or as, well, existent as your brothers but i mean hey take what you can get" Also don't you find it weird how you yourself relegated the sisters of silence to being just apart of custodians and not what they're supposed to be which are their own subsection of sisters of battle, who are shunned by their fellow sisters bc of their cursed existence only finding sanctity in the only people who can tolerate them which are the custodians? Wouldn't it be a whole lot cooler if they were their own faction and custodians just, had brothers and sisters instead of what it was before which is "all these big golden dudes doing cool shit while the sos just kinda sit their with their ancient models all covered in dust bc they haven't been viable in.. how many codexs now?"

One of the reasons why fans are mad about such a small change is because we've all seen what happened to Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who, The Witcher , Indiana Jones etc etc etc We all know where this is heading and we hate it I hate female Custodes for the same reason I hate MISTERS of Silence But I still love 40k. So invest in 3D printers and pirate audio books. Not giving GW a single penny I really dont care if GW goes broke, i have full faith in the community to keep 40k alive.
12:55, I read that tweet, and I think to myself, “that may work with Dumbledore but not a 20 to 30 year old franchise, bastich!” Also, they had a missed out on opportunity to make 10 books to bring them into modern 40k setting and make bank since that’s why they make these changes. More customers, More Money.
to bee honest the Custodes and Astartes being all male gave them a unique dynamic in my opinion as it gives an opportunity to see how men live, work and bond with each other in a uniquely male way. just as the Sisters of battle and silence give that same opportunity for a uniquely female perspective. to mix any of them would be diluting what they are because to be blunt men and women act differently when they are in each others presence, if female custodians had always been a thing then I think the culture and attitudes of the Custodes as an organisation would be different and claiming that adding women to an all male group would change nothing is (in my opinion) insulting to women as it completely disregards the unique strengths and perspectives that women bring to whatever group they join as they excel in many areas where men are lacking and vice-versa. all in all I believe this was a poor change as it won't change anything but the names of some custodians (since I believe they will write these female custodians the same way they write male ones.) but it has damaged our ability to trust what we read from GW. if everything I have read up until now has been proven to be wrong then how am I supposed to know which lore is accurate and which is not? we have been told that no custodian has ever fallen to chaos but is that true because apparently we don't even know what gender they are, so how can we be certain of any information we think we know about them?
@@crushersbutlessedgynow This is a disingenuous comparison. Paleontology (not history as you are implying) and the lore of a fictional setting are completely different. In the former, we humans don’t have all the answers and so our understanding will logically shift as new information is discovered, even if it completely upends our current explanations. Fictional Lore is entirely made by humans and fans gather around it because they have a shared understanding of a setting, that is fleshed out so they may be immersed in it. If the setting is constantly shifting without proper explanation what is the point in getting invested in it in the first place?
@@eldestdragon5766 except how yk, historical document are how the world of 40k is presented to us and the new revelations that happening for us about the lore are happening IN UNIVERSE aswell + the setting in universe is also constantly shifting, just as our own world is, i really just think you don't understand how lore works and what lore drops are or even what things like plot twists are
those are not even remotely the same thing. what GW has done is like a scientist going "yeah dinosaurs were always birds they didn't evolve over millions of years to get like that they just always were like that." I'm not saying that female custodians can never exist, what I am saying is that if female custodians had existed from the start as GW claims then the custodians would surely be different to how they are depicted. so to make it believable they would either have to change the culture of the custodians to show how women have influenced the organisation over the last 10,000+ years or have the female Custodes be a relatively new addition and then show their integration into the force by highlighting the unique ways that female Custodians approach problems that a male would have perhaps not thought of. because if female custodians don't bring anything new to the organisation that a male couldn't have brought that begs the question, why would the Emperor have bothered making them to begin with? my point is female custodians existing is not the problem the problem is that we are being told to accept that they have always existed without being shown how their existence has affected their organisation or the Imperium.
@@crushersbutlessedgynowExcept that is nonsensical even if GW uses it as an excuse. Why are the Horus Heresy novels made if the lore is in flux to that degree? What is the point of lore channels? Why should we remotely care about the 40k lore if none of it is concrete? This seems like a case of having your cake and eating it too.
to think GW"s constant and compete lack of love and care for their own setting has united players playing COMPLETELY different armies in screwing them of any more money for example i have over nearly 300 ebooks now from a friend, i didn't pay a dime for any of them, i was going to buy some of them for a friend as a christmas gift that she and i could read together but no... no gw doesn't get my money with how it treats it's own setting, it's own fans, and it's own customers also what an amazing video, i'll be sharing this around and subscribing
Two things have happened with 40K over the decades. 1: It has become ever more extreme, not only in the setting, also in the amount of detail on the miniatures. Just look at the Custodes for example. Overburdened with layers upon layers of details. 2: The setting has been sanitized. Back in the eighties and nineties, you had units such as daemonettes of Slaanesh, which looked like naked young women with grotesque lobster claws. There were also Necromunda gang models that had some curves. And the early Sister of Battle had a fetish theme going on. Today, all that has been watered down and it seems we get overloaded and ever more extreme Space Marines/Custodes to compensate somehow.
It's fvcked Jim. Only the fandom denying these changes by boycotting & if games workshop steps back this lore denigrating 21st century fad will sells continue. TTS got me into 40k but the lore & Games are only reason I kept interest. Loss the Lore & lose the fandom, Simple as!
I believe in that the person gets to choose what era of 40K they want to be part of. I’m more of an Imperial Armor type of guy when 40k’s logo was scribed in brimstone.Though if you like the Primaris and the new aesthetic then more power to you. If 40K burns down it wouldn’t matter I’ll be fighting in the Baddab War
I think the critical Drinker was right when he said this is the thin edge of the wedge. I think there are many more changes coming that won't be beneficial to the universe. But we'll have to wait and see
Personally, the Female Custodes retcon feels to me more like the old school necrons vs newcrons. Even back then when the newcrons came out, they were also always around, we just never saw them. Trazyn was just out there, chilling and collecting while everyone else thought the spooky scary skeleton robots were just universally like the Necron Destroyers are now, and people LOVE the Newcrons. Custodes are entirely distinct from Space Marines, so much so that there's really not a whole lot we know about what goes into making them, at least not to the same extent as Space Marines. The Female Custodes literally always could have been there, just like the newcrons, and we just didn't know, wouldn't be all that different if they were simply a minority within the Custodes.
This is my problem with female custodes! Aside from placating the woke crowd, what's the actual point? Why would the emporer waste his time and money altering female DNA to the point of which it can compete with male DNA? Only reason I can think of was he wanted to start a custodes breeding program. The child of two custodes would more than likely be easier to work with when creating a new custodes. Only problem is, custodes are sterile.
I just choose to ignore any lore after 7th edition. Primarus and girlymans return concreting my departure and guaranteed me not returning. I still play my D.I.Y space marine chapter and my genestealer cult, except they are now known as battle brothers and soul-stealer cults respectively.
Games workshop is attempting to get peoples social media accounts closed. A handful of UA-camrs I understand lost their channels. Bet they won’t do that to Arch, too obvious
GW have more activists employees inside and Black Rock DEI investments firm. Time will come rainbow capes in space Marines or in Custodes will be next. Then nerf the male counterparts to elevate the take over new one
I find the idea that female custodes would've been appreciated if handled well silly. They were already there has the Sisters of Silence. If anything, instead of adding to the male part of the golden roster, it would've been better if they just expanded the Sisters instead. Veichles, units, heroes, weapon teams. You name it. And by the way, 40k almost had its end times if you ask me, the fall of cadia and the entirety of 8th edition's story was effectively the first steps towards just that, but then plans changed and the setting reverted back to be more in line with the old, but with new scars. And I'd argue that the entire Fall of Cadia, the return of Guilliman, the Primaris and the now forgotten Ynnari have been more or less on the same level of writing as the End Times for Fantasy. Expect that through varius post-release retcons and expansions they tried to improve on it. And finally, your fears of sanitisation of the franchise are founded. Please look at the Bretonnian's Old World book. A faction that is supposed to have fair maiden being the mages and the noble lords being the knights, now accepts female knights with no questions asked. Despited plenty of lore even in the TTRPG books, which I own, stating that woman had to hide their identity to be knights. But it's bretonnia in fantasy. A less popular faction in a less popular setting, so the outroar has not been as severe. But the rot is creeping in, and sadly having no emotions for either side means only that the aggressive force will win, in this case the forced inclusion of elements instead of a complimentary or pararrel existance.
Once again a great video! Very reasonable in its general argument without falling to - and I REALLY ask for your forgiveness beforehand due the words, for lack of better ones, that I will use in the sequence - "neckbeard bigotry" or "wokeness overexcitement" (Ugh! There! Once again, I'm really sorry! Just to add that, in different circumstances, the attitudes between those contentious group would the opposite of one another). Personally I am kind of not giving much importance to that new polemic because I am somehow of your opinion of this video that GW had already did WORST with many factions, aspects and characteristics of their own franchise! You mentioned here, for instance, how Slaanesh is being slowly "sanitized" (if I understood correctly), which is outrageous in general! In previous videos you approached how badly GW in general has been dealt with the Eldar since, well, always but specially with (if, again, I am not mistaken) "The Gathering Storm" arc that reached an useless "conclusion". There are the fuck ups (sorry) that GW allowed with The Grey Knights more than once - and here I talk in defense of a group that I abhor completely but I recognize injustice and bullshit when I see it. Tyranids were nerfed, until now we don't have a more profound book about The Leagues of Votann (Yes, I would like to write that in the book of grudges too! And I not even a Squat player!) and so much more! And you mentioned the whole catastrophic mess that was "The End Times"! Oh, and anyone that is thinking that "there was always female Custodes" is bad: would you like to feel (again) the pain of when the Harlequins invaded The Imperial Palace and killed many of them (Custodes) in a story that is entirely bullshit?! I think not! 😅 Back in my attempt to speak seriously: what I have been sensing, somehow (and I am not the only one), is the "marvelization" with WH40K - specially, precisely, regarding the Primarchs. I mean... just take a look at the Lion's return. Yep! A lot of people liked it with good reasons but there are some "Marvel taints" in that story that, frankly... I fear a lot of things in the future of the franchise. I fear, for instance, how The King In Yellow/Constantin Valdor's arc and The Pariah Nexus' arc are going to be concluded, for instance. I also fear that people who want to SIMPLY ROLEPLAY as blatantly bad guys be censored like it is happening, for instance, in the World of Darkness franchise (If you want to play as a Sabbat vampire it is because you are a supremacist fascist!!!11!11111!!! Get of Fenriz - or, now, Cult of Fenriz - were ALWAYS NS! Each one of them always! You will not play as one of them anymore you right-wing extremist! You're NOT WELCOME in our INCLUSIVE community!). Well, I got carried away as usual! That is all I have to say - specially that I enjoyed greatly, once again, this video of yours! Very nuanced as usual! Thank you for your content and have a pleasant weekend! ❤ P.S.: Pardon me one more time but from which "Third World" country you hail from? If you are comfortable to answer, obviously.
I see your comments in a lot of my videos, don't know if I was able to respond to all of them, but I truly appreciate your support quite a lot. I am from a particularly bad part of Brazil. Don't know if (the country) it's actually third world or not, but considering where I live, it doesn't really matter.
Yeah aos and primaris were the writing on the wall. The grim dark and the passion are gone from gw. You can see it in their new releases and rules. Fuckin sad man
⚡ Poor Warhammer. As if the Sisters of Silence/Battle, the female Assassins, the Tech-Priestesses, the Imperial Guard female soldiers and the Eldar/Tau female warriors aren't enough. We fans must respond to this intolerable corruption like this: Waaagh! There are so many amazing strong female characters in Warhammer that everyone likes because they are beautiful and well written. This other stuff is just giving the dog the bone and then everything else follows.
Personally i see this going 1 of 3 ways. 1: GW clarifies themselves and maintains having female custodes. Folk will hate it, but some will respect em sticking to their guns for once. 2: Its a Tzeenchian Plot. This would unironically be the worst possible result as it means the custodes are vulnerable to the warp plots AND have a massive security problem of a back door called The Blood Games 3: GW relents and just makes it only the one female custode, severely unlikely
While I agree the whole custodies thing has been handled very poorly, I doubt this alone will actually effect GW's bottom line. The amount of people that play the game and are actively deep into the lore is a tiny percentage, Most will just look at these stories and go 'Okay, neat' and then go back to rolling dice. As for the up cry on social media, Well past events have proven time and time again what people say and what people do (especially when they have anonymity behind a computer screen) very rarely overlap.
Blackrock holds a large amount of shares in GW. Sadly, their access to cash is tied into raising their ESG diversity scores, as much if not more than whatever impact comes from what the fans decide to do.
Having done my own video on the topic. My main issue is with how GW disrespectfully did the retcon. They could've gone the Primaris route and create a narrative that would eventually lead to Fem-custodes existing in the 42m; but chose not to for some reason. I'm no economist but I can't imagine this was a decision born from a financial incentive so I'm lead to question if this was a political change? I suppose time will tell.
Thank U for showing me U're/ GW's card. Sit w/ this. If GW was under some kind of "pressure", what would be a more Budlight moment than fudging the intro to this farce?
Give me a 12 pack of root beer, comfy chair and a computer and I'll *write* GW A rough draft of a book that can make things like the Female Custodes work, but as someone newer to the hobby (Which already has bloated and convoluted lore) this does not bode well for my faith in GW. I love the setting so far but if GW keeps up making these kinds of poorly handled retcons (That in my opinion feel pandery) I dont know how much I can get into it...
Great video with some good points. The only thing I disagree with is the new female Custodes, that needs to fought in the strongest way possible. If not, GW and Amazon will do a Disney and ratchet up their nonsense. Pride flags on the Space Marines, female Orks, etc etc...
They complain because they dont want women in "their " spaces. It's why my wife wont wear bad t shirts as men grill her on if she knows their songs. No man has ever asked me that. That is the reality.
Red Hierophant, I disagree with you saying Custodes is being diluted, Custodes are still beasts in a whole another level, they still the perfect warriors that impact any battlefield and any story they appear! The emperor's companions and elite guard, nothing changed about how unique they are! I honestly think everyone is overreacting to this retcon, since basically nothing changed, did everyone lost their minds? GW did way worse! We should be mad by the way it was delivered, not to what was delivered, you guys act like the setting should be frozen in a 80's mindset... Can't wait for the shitshow when GW finally brings female astartes back, i will enjoy watching the overreactions while i paint my little sister's new army, she hates the space nuns.
The way they retconned it is my main issue with this whole situation. I personally don't care too much if they have female among their ranks or not. I also think the situation was handled in a very infantile manner by GW.
@@RedHierophant23 I agree, my second and third paragraph was more of a opinion about how far others are going with the hate and losing sight of the real issue of this case, not directed at you. I'm sorry if it was not clear.
People are “overreacting” to GW attempting to gaslight the community into thinking that female Custodes existed the entire time. If Female Astartes become a thing it would be a *massive* lore-break, so I wouldn’t call people being upset about it an overreaction. Also, what is stopping your little sister from having an Astartes army now? Does she need to be “represented” by the bio-engineered killing machines to play them?
@@eldestdragon5766 Existing astartes wouldn't work, but new ones? It's not really hard: "Hey guys it's me Emperor/Cawl/Guilliman/etc, we need a lot more recruits because chaos sucks, i perfected the primaris formula and now we have primaris from both genders, here's five cool books about it". She has a white scars kill team that she takes care so well, makes me proud. But about the second question, yes.. of course, what's the problem if she wants to be represented by killing machines? It's ok if i wanted that when i was her age but it's wrong if she wants it now? I don't get your point, times changed man.. not all girls want to be the princess anymore
As far as I'm aware, there's never been anything to suggest that space marines or custodes are sterile, though I believe the are all essentially asexual. Female Custodes complaint is to me as pointless as a female space marine complaint would be, since 40k started with female space marines in the first place. If you want to make appeals to tradition, that change is undoing an older one.
GW is literally making more money than ever and selling out every kit they release. The female custode lore is really stupid, but people saying "40k is dying" need to chill out
Hey so like, idk if you know this but its a pretty well known fact the whole "male only space marines" thing was in of itself a retcon due to poor mini sales. Claiming that to be set in stone lore and sorta pretending that its always been this way when some of the fresh paint is already chipping off just seems disingenuous. Also according to some official lore experts before the new codex there was nothing to say female custodians weren't a thing. Its not a retcon bc it was never outright stated, it was IMPLIED you could say due to us never seeing any but all we had to go on was the lore around the space marines and over time we just attributed them to the custodes aswell. Also i feel your argument against them can be used for female custodians aswell; they differentiate custodians from space marines. As it currently stands custodians are kinda just seen as BIGGER and GOLDEN space marines, who ONLY LIVE ON TERRA but go on fishing trips sometime in the name of dear old dad like their younger nephews. You can't really say that when the custodian has boobs and the marines do not Tldr i feel your take on the custodians is at best uneducated and upon closer look misleading, along with that i fell your problem with them being too similar to a faction not of the same setting while actively making them more differential and unique in its own setting is silly
@@landongrace1264 oh no, and since man is in the word human suddenly women do not exist! Fuck! Why did the creators of language do that! Bc the writers used sons doesn't mean there isn't any daughters, this is dumb
I adressed the "female space marines in Rogue Trader" thing in the video, but indirectly. These "female space marines" existed before the Primarchs, the geneseed and EVERY SINGLE OTHER PIECE of Space Marine related lore was created. The "female space marines" of Rogue Trader are not even CLOSE to what the Space Marines we have today are. They are literally just normal women in power armor, they're closer to what the sororitas are today. There is quite a significant amount of evidence that female Custodes never existed. 1. They have never been mentioned in decades of lore 2. There's literally no official art of them 3. They've been stated multiple times to be a Brotherhood or the "sons of Terra" and such In short, these "lore experts" are literally lying to your face. Pretending they "technically were always there but we just never mentioned them" is precisely why people are so mad at this whole situation. Only people that know nothing about the Custodes assume they're just basically golden space marines. Custodes are supposed to be Emperor's bodyguards, the closest to him. Their power armor, their weapon of choice, the fact they are basically warrior-philosophers the Emperor's favorites. These are all things that completely sets them apart from the Space marines. They are related to the Emperor the very same way the Stormcast are related to Sigmar. They were created specifically by their God to carry out their will. They carry the power of their God with them. That, at least to me, sound VERY similar. Besides, we also always had the Sisters of Silence as a mirror to the Custodes, the same way the Sisters of Battle mirror the Astartes. Calling my arguments misleading is insane when they are supported by all the lore that isn't literally a week old. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, and I genuinely respect it. As I said in the video, the whole custodes situation took these massive proportions not because of the change itself, but because of how it was handled.

I am literally just a random dude from a third-world country that just happens to like Warhammer 40k. I have not and will not discuss the politics of a place I don't even live in. I suggest you reconsider your stance and ask yourself why people are making these arguments in the first place, perhaps you might find some truth in their words. Or you can just continue arguing in bad faith. The choice is entirely yours. All I know about Arch is that he has some very political opinions and such, I have never even watched any of his videos.
I personally feel exhausted due to the response towards the whole female custodes drama. It has been nothing short of toxic and attracted a load of awful people making terrible comments about women, and mixing their conspiratorial and political accusations towards the part of the community that is happy about this change. In my eyes, a retcon is only that, when it changes pre-established lore. Custodes, as far as I understand, are basically the perfect elevated form of human soldiers. There was, as far as I’m aware, no in-universe statement that establishes, that women couldn’t be converted into custodes. In fact, how can you even distinguish them anyway if both sexes are so heavily experimented on and injected with testosterone, to the point that their gender at birth is unrecognisable? Even more so when beneath power armor. Space marines are a different matter, and I feel for them there’d have to be some buildup if we were to ever get female space marines. If GW would’ve made the same statement in regards to space marines, that’s where I’d agree with you on the change being abrupt and change the lore unnecessarily. They’re imperfect versions of the custodes, and it’s part of their identity. Just as you wouldn’t have male sisters of battle. This does not change the lore of the custodes imo and in fact feels healthy to me. I for one welcome females in power armor instead of your usual boob armoured badass.
Except there already are women in power armor. In fact, the lines of many women in power armor is actively rotting on the vine in favor of creating female custodes models. Rather than a female custodes, a massive lore change, and all that: I'd rather just have Sisters of Silence get more models. I want them to be able to be a whole army themselves. I want more Sisters of Battle, not another model for an army that's already playable by itself. By branching out into already established armies, then all we're doing is giving under-modeled armies the middle finger.
The thing Is female custodes lore is wholly unique to space marines that they are a different kind of process and more of an evolutionary step for humanity rather then a weapon cobbled together. Instead of actually trying to find a justifiable continuation of the lore they instead went with lying and cheap pandering. Also ignoring their uniquely female organisations like sisters of silence. Second of all the worst comments about woman I've seen have been done by the pro femstode and femarines crowd as they get called things like pick mes,( or in worse case scenarios birthers)
The problem is that they are applying divisive gender politics into a hobby where nobody asked for it. There's plenty of opportunity for female characters in 40k, always has been. Instead they are cheapening the art in exchange for the insertion of unrelated modern political views.
@@ZeroNumerous GW discontinuing or leaving the sisters of silence in the dust would definitely be very upsetting, even more so if they (or future models) were simply sidelined for female custodes. But I don’t think they can’t coexist. Yes, I get it, sisters of silence also wear power armour. But from a design standpoint, you have to admit that having female characters in bulky armour, that doesn’t fit tightly to women’s bodies, is much less common that what we typically get in media. I am only speaking for myself, and this is coming from someone who loves the SoB. But I find it exhausting when female armour is always designed with feminine features in mind. If it’s not boob armor then it’s high heels or wide hips and thin waists. Anything that will make them look “pretty”. Do we get any of that treatment for guys? Have you ever seen a pretty looking guardsmen or commander? Warhammer does a lot of things right, but this is a territory that the designers sometimes get lazy with. I’d just like to see more diversity in the shape language of body armour. With sisters of battle it’s not always as jarring, since they don’t always wear fully plated armour. But with the Sisters of Silence, you’ll always find the same boob armour design. It may sound silly to you when people complain about this, but I find the typical female characters just tend to look less interesting than their male counterparts. You’ll rarely find handsome/sexualized male characters in warhammer, but when you even look at the battered and battle scarred sisters, they’ll always still look pretty. Like, there’s no issue admitting that it’s to appease to their male consumer base, but denying that warhammer characters are designed to be more appealing to (cis) men is just being in denial imo. With all of this said, I still love the sisters of silence and - battle, and I love this franchise. I don’t care much for this debacle, but I also think it can be a good change as long as it doesn’t give GW a reason to not update the sisters of silence with more models.

The end result is probably that, yeah, people are going to latch onto older editions and hold onto those.
how easy is it to 3d print stuff and sell it on places like etsy/ ebay?
@@KingLich451 honestly its a bit of a mixed bag of pros and cons:
Pros: 3d printing services seem to be on a steady rise especially in the US and Australia and seem to be fast and reliable.
Cons: in the UK (where I live) and the EU it's seems to be quite questionable in terms of speed and reliability...

Its all about "The message"
The warhammer universe has been bought and sold long ago. It died the moment it couldn't voice all of the extremities necessary to make it a grimdark universe. It was never meant to be child's game.
Ironically, many of us got into GW when we were children - because children love getting into things that are not for children. It's like when we wanted to watch Alien but our parents wouldn't let us. That just made it way more interesting.
TTS got me into 40k lore. I was a weekend away from picking up my first army. Bruva alphabusa cancelled the show. No money for GW.
Never forget what they took from us
Games Workshop's recent actions are just heresy enough to unite, Tau, Chaos, Imperium, Orks, Necroms, Eldar, and Tyranids under one banner.
He who stands with me against Games Workshop shall be my brother/sister. Regardless if they are xenos, heretic, or human.
They have always been bad, but lately they've been particularly worse than usual.
(And those that are only invested in the lore like myself)
Hell, I believe that even Erebus would be at your side against "the greatest scorpion" that is GW!

You've completely understood the reasons behind the points I've made. Your insight is unbelievable. Cheers!
Too bad GW have been infiltrated by face dancers... Remember this: The one who controls Games Workshop, controls Warhammer 40000!
This was inevitable when they introduced Primaris….
True, Primaris were an omen.
100% facts lad. Should have stayed in limbo for the players to build on.
Warhammer is going to get the Star Wars treatment and im not sticking around for it.

Hey you realize thats how HISTORY works too right? Like do you suddenly not believe in dinosaurs bc some now have feathers?
@@crushersbutlessedgynow This is a disingenuous comparison. Paleontology (not history as you are implying) and the lore of a fictional setting are completely different. In the former, we humans don’t have all the answers and so our understanding will logically shift as new information is discovered, even if it completely upends our current explanations.
Fictional Lore is entirely made by humans and fans gather around it because they have a shared understanding of a setting, that is fleshed out so they may be immersed in it. If the setting is constantly shifting without proper explanation what is the point in getting invested in it in the first place?
@@eldestdragon5766 except how yk, historical document are how the world of 40k is presented to us and the new revelations that happening for us about the lore are happening IN UNIVERSE aswell + the setting in universe is also constantly shifting, just as our own world is, i really just think you don't understand how lore works and what lore drops are or even what things like plot twists are
those are not even remotely the same thing. what GW has done is like a scientist going "yeah dinosaurs were always birds they didn't evolve over millions of years to get like that they just always were like that."
I'm not saying that female custodians can never exist, what I am saying is that if female custodians had existed from the start as GW claims then the custodians would surely be different to how they are depicted. so to make it believable they would either have to change the culture of the custodians to show how women have influenced the organisation over the last 10,000+ years or have the female Custodes be a relatively new addition and then show their integration into the force by highlighting the unique ways that female Custodians approach problems that a male would have perhaps not thought of.
because if female custodians don't bring anything new to the organisation that a male couldn't have brought that begs the question, why would the Emperor have bothered making them to begin with?
my point is female custodians existing is not the problem the problem is that we are being told to accept that they have always existed without being shown how their existence has affected their organisation or the Imperium.
@@crushersbutlessedgynowExcept that is nonsensical even if GW uses it as an excuse. Why are the Horus Heresy novels made if the lore is in flux to that degree? What is the point of lore channels?
It's fine, I'll spend my time and money elsewhere.
It's fvcked Jim.
Only the fandom denying these changes by boycotting & if games workshop steps back this lore denigrating 21st century fad will sells continue.

If 40K burns down it wouldn’t matter I’ll be fighting in the Baddab War
A well reasoned and articulated position .. I just wish the broader discourse over this were the same.
Custodes are just more extreme space marines. They always want to make a new thing that is more awesome than the old thing.

Not good GW cultivated an adversarial relationship with their fans.
Its Maamstodes
Back in my attempt to speak seriously: what I have been sensing, somehow (and I am not the only one), is the "marvelization" with WH40K - specially, precisely, regarding the Primarchs. I mean... just take a look at the Lion's return.
P.S.: Pardon me one more time but from which "Third World" country you hail from? If you are comfortable to answer, obviously.
I see your comments in a lot of my videos, don't know if I was able to respond to all of them, but I truly appreciate your support quite a lot.
I am from a particularly bad part of Brazil. Don't know if (the country) it's actually third world or not, but considering where I live, it doesn't really matter.

Poor Warhammer.
This would unironically be the worst possible result as it means the custodes are vulnerable to the warp plots AND have a massive security problem of a back door called The Blood Games
3: GW relents and just makes it only the one female custode, severely unlikely
Adding female space marines was a misguided, bonehead move, but trying to gaslight their fans was when they added petrol to the fire.
If GW was smart they would just make the new man from fabius as their female space marines and put a lore of them wanting to replace humanity.
I suppose time will tell.
that realization you have been playing with a barbie doll all along.
Well if Custodes can be female, I guess Barbie can be a Space Marine

If GW was under some kind of "pressure", what would be a more Budlight moment than fudging the intro to this farce?
Slow death? Been playing since second edition and it’s only gotten bigger and stronger.
I couldn't have said it better myself!
Just stick to the old stuff. There is a life time's worth of fluff to explore and enjoy.
I dont care about female custodes at all but I liked this video
I appreciate that, bro.
Great video with some good points. The only thing I disagree with is the new female Custodes, that needs to fought in the strongest way possible. If not, GW and Amazon will do a Disney and ratchet up their nonsense. Pride flags on the Space Marines, female Orks, etc etc...
Amen brother.
They complain because they dont want women in "their " spaces. It's why my wife wont wear bad t shirts as men grill her on if she knows their songs. No man has ever asked me that. That is the reality.
good video
@@AzelasFromHyrule No worries, brother!

You can't really say that when the custodian has boobs and the marines do not
Tldr i feel your take on the custodians is at best uneducated and upon closer look misleading, along with that i fell your problem with them being too similar to a faction not of the same setting while actively making them more differential and unique in its own setting is silly
"Noble sons of Terra" is written in the codex. The tour bus is on your left.
1. They have never been mentioned in decades of lore
2. There's literally no official art of them
3. They've been stated multiple times to be a Brotherhood or the "sons of Terra" and such
In short, these "lore experts" are literally lying to your face.
@@RedHierophant23 yea so this is dumb ^? Like really dumb? Like are you yourself a fan of warhammer 40k? Are you an archwarhammer fan by any chance? It does feel like you're going for that same vibe as he used to be and it would explain your aversion to how lore drops work

Comparing me to Arch is absolutely insane, I completely removed any signs of politics from the equation. Mostly because I personally have no stake in whatever political developments happen either in America or the EU and also because I genuinely believe that this change was motivated by profit, not politics.
Comparing me Arch just shows me that you are not interested in arguing in good faith, so this will be last time I engage with you.
Slaanesh has nothing on those GW courts with all its might.
Warhammer has been progressive for decades this drama is utterly pointless.
