Fun fact, Jordan (Christa Miller) was indeed pregnant during shooting. She's married to the show's producer Bill Lawrence, so they worked it into the show.

And just to add some dates to this, Miller's second child, William Stoddard Lawrence, was born on January 3, 2003. This episode premiered on January 23, 2003. Depending on the film schedule, she was likely between 6-8 months along.

I don't think celso was trying to be mischievous or trying to trick the other doctor. I think he was trying not to embarrass his friend and wanted to give him the chance to prove celso wrong.

Basically, during that medical procedure, near as I can figure out, the patient needed a Swan-Ganz catheter put in (basically a catheter to the heart).
Dick van Dyke ordered JD to do it through a venous cutdown, which is basically just surgically cutting open the vein and sticking the catheter in there. The problem with a venous cutdown is that it can have all sorts of side effects, so nobody does it anymore if they can help it. JD wanted to use a modified Seldinger technique, which (I'm oversimplifying) is putting a needle in the vein, and using it and a guide wire to move the catheter up the vein towards the heart. IT has a bunch of advantages over the venous cutdown....you're not making an open wound that can get infected or that you have to worry about complications in regards to healing,, you don't have to risk making a mistake in cutting and nicking the carotid, etc. In other words, you'd do a Seldiger or modified Seldiger in almost all cases that used to require a cutdown. It's safer for the patient, and easier and less stressful for the person doing the procedure.

The actress playing Jordan was real-life pregnant during the show, which actually caused some continuity problems during shooting.

Great reaction bud, glad to see you back.
Yes, at 7:30 Christa Miller (the actress that plays Jordan) was pregnant in real life, and her real-life husband is the series writer/creator, Bill Lawrence. (Since you're not watching them in order, fyi - it is Dr. Cox's kid, the audience finds out in s2e16, and he finds out in s2e22)
At 9:30, Dr. Townshend is asking for an Internal Jugular Cutdown which is an older surgical procedure where the vein is accessed surgically and a hole is cut large enough for the catheter directly instead of the guidewire technique of the modified Selldinger (Dr. Sven Ivar Seldinger. died in 1998) that you mention at 17:00, since the hole is larger and done w/ a scalpel, it's way riskier.
Side note, Dr. Townshend is played by Dick Van Dyke, (Bert the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins)
Kelso is often painted as the bad guy but mostly as a statement against medical bureaucracy, he does have some really endearing moments. In s6e7 "His Story IV", you see Kelso's perspective, and it's revealed that he sometimes makes himself the bad guy on purpose to shield the rest of the team from the hard choices, (also a theme in s5e5 "My Jiggly Ball")
The theme of keeping up to date is so spot on. I'm a programmer and every few months there is something new. Ever notice that anytime a new device like Alexa comes out, there's immediately apps for it? There was no time to make courses or textbooks on that: programmers just had to figure it out. Same with iPhone or any other thing. The programmers I know that don't keep up stay at a junior level for most of their career. The most important habit is being a lifelong learner, which I suspect is the same in medicine.
    Cheers

an IJ Cutdown (Internal Jugular Cutdown) is an emergency procedure in which the vein is exposed surgically and then a TIVAP or cannula is inserted into the vein under direct vision. Normally only used at times where peripheral cannulation proves to be difficult or impossible.

Every time you talk about having a good death it makes me happy. My grandpa suffered for years in stage 4 lung cancer, heart transplant, heart failure, lost one lung, and every breath was agony towards the end.
He held on long enough to give my grandmother one last Christmas, then passed on my birthday with one last breath and a smile on his face. He was always so scared of death, but at the end he was at peace and surrounded by everyone he loved. His birthday gift to me was to die the way everyone hopes they will…minus the battle with cancer.

Quite a few real pregnancies of the cast were incorporated into the show. As to why Jordan didn't look puffy or tired - fantastic make-up crew because a fair amount of the TV audience isn't quite ready to see the whole reality of pregnancy yet. Everyone's still gotta look like a model no matter what.

I think the episode "My Jigglyball" does a really good job showing the type of leader Kelso is. At the beginning of the series he seems like a jerk, but I think that episode gives a good look at the decisions he has to make and why he behaves the way he does when making them.

My spouse and I were both all about not finding out the baby's sex. It drove a lot of our family crazy. It really didn't matter that much in the long run other than doubling the work of picking out a name. The delivery nurses thought it was fun as well.

But it's also so amazing that we have dialysis as a technology and treatment and that there are new advances in it all the time.

I'm a bit surprised that you mentioned that you doctors have little feedback over the procedures they perform. I have little to none medical knowledge that exceeds basic first aid, but don't doctors have evaluation discussions? As a variation of the daily standup questions (what have you done yesterday, what problems did you encounter, what are you gonna do today) you could ask the questions:
    1. What procedure(s) did we perform? Just so everybody is on the same page.
    2. Did we encounter any issues, and if so, are there ways to prevent them in the future?
    3. Were all team members satisfied with the procedure, or do some have suggestions for improvement?
Switching gears, my partner and I kept the gender of our first two pregnancies a secret. However, when we found out the second pregnancy was twins, my initial concern was how to fit three baby seats in my car. My partner is still upset about that! For the third pregnancy, we wanted to know the gender because we both hoped for a boy. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on our side, and it was another girl. So now, I have four daughters, aged 5, 4, 4, and 2. I dread the day they start dating...

to wanting to know - i nver cared. got 3 kids. i am autistic though - for me it was never an issue. if i did know what would change? if i dont know, what difference does it make? gotta love and take care of your children, gotta do all the dad stuff either way. I mean i was indifferent on my first child, which turned out to be a daughter, and kinda hoped the second would be a boy just for having the full experience, and was indifferent on the third.
Knowing the sex doesnt really matter, does it? At best you buy different toys, but since mom and child are in hospital a bit anyway i can buy whatever after birth.
that said, now that my daughter is 17, turns out i have the deepest bond with her and im wondering if id have a deeper connection to the other 2 kids if they also were female, or if the girl gang would have droven me nuts and my sanity byebye because that 17 year old daughter also causes the most issues by a long shot.

God, I could recommend so many, you've actually already reacted to the best episodes....The only one that is still very high that you havent reacted to that i can think of would be "My Long Goodbye". "My Way Home". I'd Like to see you React to "My Musical". "My Finale Pt.1 and Pt.2" But that is the end of Scrubs, pretty much, because we don't talk about Season 9, Bill Lawrence and most of the cast are quite embarrassed of that season and it's debatable whether it's canon, or not. Lol. It is Doctor Cox's baby, by the way. Dr kelso's character is very complicated. There's lots of layers that need to be peeled back. He starts out very unlikable but I think the more reaction videos you react to and the later you go into the series and the seasons you'll start having mad respect for Dr kelso, because they very much soften his character it starts sometime in season 3 in an episode called 'My Screw-Up'. My screw up is a three-part episode with Brendan Fraser I think you may have only reacted to one or two episodes of Brendan Fraser, but anyway, I think you already reacted to it. But that is one of the first times and it was the third season that they start to give Credence and humanity to his character and they just continue doing it from there. Dr kelso is one of my favorite characters in this show he has grown on me very much. And there is an episode or two in season eight where he retires and is replaced by Courtney Cox who is worse then him, by the way, if you can believe it and it is shown that he has lied about his age for so long so he didn't have to step down from his postion and it is shown that he really does love the hospital and didn't want to leave and was very upset that he had to step down. And as far as the procedure they're doing I've never been able to find information on it I've never been able to look it up and find information I think they made it up as something that old school doctors from the 60s used to do but it's fallen out of favor because it's barbaric and it's not effective anymore. But yeah as far as the exact procedure that Dick Van Dyke tells him to perform, I've never been able to find information on it

this kid is lucky to have his father in his life. unfortunately, you can only be a good father if she allows you to be. the rules of society say she has all the decision making power. if she wants to... she'll send you packing and have some other dude raising your kids or she'll just sleep around and be a "single mom"

How any doctor can eat chocolate ever again is a mystery🤢🤢🤮Also why hasn’t anyone invented a device by now? We’re pulling poop out of people with our fingers?😂

Definitely wouldn't want to know the sex if my partner doesn't. We're doing this together, all the way.

I didn’t want to find out the sex with my first. Hubby (fiancé at the time) went along with it. I’ll have to ask if he wanted to actually know lol (now that it’s 27 yrs later). Anyway, found out with 2nd & 3rd kids

I would want to know the m/f of the baby, because shopping for baby stuff is fun, but they need a lot of stuff. Shopping with great urgency AND an infant seems much less fun.

If and when I do get pregnant I think I'd want to know. Since I like sewing I'd probably want to make my baby a few things before they arrive. But if my husband wouldn't want to know I think that would be conflicted. Anyway good video. . ̫ .

My father ran a taco truck for the local mortuary and told us about his day over spaghetti dinner. Disimpacting doesn't sound so bad. Also. I'd like to make you an intro animation. Let me know if you'd be interested

Honestly, I probably wouldn't want to know these days.
I am a big fan of the idea of letting a kid figure out their own identity with time, so going all pinks or blues, flowers or footballs just wouldn't be my style of parenting.
And if I am not gonna gender everything, then there is no real need to know in advance.

want to know the sex of the baby... I would only want to know once I know, barring horrific accident, that the baby is coming, I would prep a room for it beforehand, plan out a move if necessary, but definite plans would wait till I know it's definitely happening, because then you have to start buying things. granted till a kids 2-3 and has memories how much it matters if its boy or girl stuff is in the air, but I personally wouldn't care much one way or the other.
paternity... im a guy, if I was a woman then I know its mine, but as a guy, I may not even be able to see it till they are in their teens and at that point law decided it doesn't matter, its mine no matter what.
