I have questions, friend. I am typing from the United States and I just found out what a wog was. According to what I googled, a wog is a derogatory term for someone of southern European origin (Mediterranean). I notice that there are people of that ethnicity that's making fun of the stereotypes. If you are in Australia, do you find it offensive that people are perpetuating these stereotypes of your culture?
@@hdjksa52 Yeah nah only people who really find it offensive aren't actually from an ethnic sort of background, are really old school or never meet wogs. I'm a wog here and I use it freely, barely ever had it used against me in a derogatory way, more common racial term is terrorist. We've just owned wog as an identity.
@@yenyehski_698 That's really interesting. There is something going on here in the USA that is sort of like that. I don't want to go into it because I think the word is offensive, but a lot of younger people use it to self identify.
@@hdjksa52 I believe you guys in the U.S have 'WOP' (With Out Papers) instead of WOG. While its not found offensive anymore (with exceptions of course), it was used pretty terribly over time. My family is of 100% greek background, mum was born there and came to Aus very young and my dad was born in Aus with full greek heritage. Highschool in the 80's was very different for both of them, my mum lived in a predominantly Italian/greek neighbourhood where racism was minimal due to white/anglo Australians being the population minority. However, my dad grew up and went to highschool in an outter city suburb, where he was 1 of 2 kids of European decent in the whole school. He says everyday, he went through absolute hell just because of his ethnicity, eventually getting into fights , physical and verbal. Another story (dad) revolves around the time him and his cousin went to pick up meats from the local butcher, everything already paid for a day in advance by his (non english speaking) uncle. Anyway, they enter the store to pick up these meats and the butcher, out of nowhere starts insulting them, calling them greek wog scum, saying that he hopes the uncle dies etc. Thinking that something happened between the butcher and the uncle the day before, they asked him about if something had happened (thinking it was a possible money dispute) but the guy straight up says to them that there was no problem the day before, even that the uncle was pleasant to deal with but regardless, said he hates wogs and wont serve them. Hope that wasnt too long of a reply lol, just something that isn't talked about much anymore.
I love how open these australian people are, now adays this sort of thing would be seen as completely unacceptable. I think its pretty fuckin funny and educational
It’s funny I keep getting Australian videos after live island au but I’m British The problem is I don’t know any of their slang or anything it’s so confusing I want to go so bad

Fucking hell. Wog is basically the n-word here in Britain so hearing children and adults so freely talk about and call each other wogs is hysterically funny imo Edit: also check the host's hard drive he's way too friendly with those younguns.
Funnily enough there's a mate of mine who's known as "Wog" and he goes by it proudly so I'd say it's almost the N word and certainly is equivalent to it in the right context but as a whole isn't that bad unless you're one of those politically correct mugs.
It actually stands for 'working on government service' goes back to when locals were employed by the British army, in Egypt I think it was, after the war, it never was meant as an insult, Nig-ger wasn't originally an insult either, it was just the way Americans pronounced Negre, or Negro, French and Spanish for black.anything can be an insult if you put damn Infront of it.😊
No one cares because Italians and Greeks have a vast and proud history that negates any sense of "offense" that may be caused by being called such a word.. Only insecure people are offended by such things .
Mad Chris Perhaps you should look into your heritage a bit mate then you might have enough pride that such little things as a word could do nothing to you... If i called you a purple monster it would have zero effect on you because there is not a shred of belief within you that would even lead you to consider that you are purple or a monster.. It simply would make NO SENSE.. Honestly if you are from European blood (just about any ethnicity of Europe) then the *knowledge* of the MASS amounts of contribution and accomplishment achieved by your ancestors should be MORE than enough for you, that results in a natural lack of concern for any labeling or anything like that. What is your background anyway?
Krixx Set I understand what you are saying but my dad was called wog in a negative manner throughout school so was my brother and I! This is why I do not like the word! And I’m Italian
@reuben blackbird Its just a bit of fun mate, my family came to Australia from Greece in the 60's and the ones that lived in suburbs furthest away from the city (that had a higher population of anglo-aussies) usually copped it pretty bad, bullying at school, not being served at stores by racists + all kinds of other stuff, I can go on for days. But on the flip side, its not an issue anymore, so what better way to get a laugh out of a divided topic back when this was aired
@@user-sh2rc5kc7x As a wog I can get a laugh out of it. Sure sometimes at school we would cop it a bit, but we were just kids back then. Now I and many other Wogs can take the piss
