Yasss that's the type of video i needed to hear today, your honesty regarding the UA-cam journey is golden Nick so we can understand more what's up and what's the next step ;-)
I don't think starting off with random content is bad, just make sure you start focusing on what gets a lot of views and avoiding what flops or UA-cam will see that a lot of your subscribers are ignoring your content and will stop sharing it with others.
Hey Nick, I don't think every youtuber should go to the live events or that they feel lonely making videos home. You are extrovert so this is your point of view, but I wouldn't recommend it to all the introverts (myself included). Of course connecting with other youtubers can be very helpful and I'm not arguing that, I just myself like making videos alone and if someone find them interesting I will definately connect and chat with the viewers :)
Just posted my first videos a week ago today. I have 5 videos now. 5 subs, under 100 total views. I have to say though I enjoy making videos, good luck to everyone on their UA-cam journeys. Thanks for the solid advice Nick!
One thing I have almost never seen on UA-cam for advice, is how to keep viewers engaged and enjoying content towards an entertainment based channel? Such as drawing, funny videos etc. There’s always a lot for blogging or tutorials, but I don’t see entertainment almost ever. Thanks for all the great advice.
Never fail to share the good things. I’m implementing proper stuff on my new channel cause maaan I messed up this one. Hope I can bounce back from the mistakes on this channel
Posted my first video to UA-cam in December of last year, just before January 2021. I'm close now to seeing my channel just over 200 subs. There were solid moments in the beginning where it felt like I was pushing a dead car up a hill. As I've been going I kept an eye on some other channels in the same window saying "yeah, he's grown by 25%, he's grown by 15%". It feels good because even though the organic numbers for those channels come to figures like nine thousand or fifteen hundred subs, my channel has grown over 400% from 20 subs in January. I know I'm on my way, it's all relative.
Nick thanks for Helping us without you we might never grow our Channel the right way and Be patient. people who wants to start a Yt Channel. because someday you will get that Milestone you want
Just coming near 1000 subs. And i just came back to thank you and also to remind me things missed on my journey since February (25 videos of which 5 are shorts)
Currently I have two completely separate channels. One is capitalizing on my professional expertise(accounting, excel, business applications). The other more on my hobbies: cars, motorcycles, home repairs, and gadgets/tinkering. I think it also makes sense to include in my hobby channel a diary or journal of the professional channel. What I have done, stats as I go along, what is working, what isn't, etc. I love your channel! Many of the things you espouse, I had learned, implemented. But I have learned a lot. Perfectionism had kept me from starting. Thanks for pushing everyone to just get going!!!
Hey Nick, you are really awesome. By following your advice I got 1500 new subscribers & 8000+ watch time in only 28 days. Previously I had only 1000 subscribers in my 12 years old channel. Love from Bangladesh
The problem with trying to make the best possible content we can... is we have no idea what is actually "good". How often do we hear people say "my content is amazing but I'm not getting any views" when it turns out their content isn't as amazing as they think. We all have a level of bias, but on the flip side, we're also our own worst enemy. It's either "my content is amazing" when it's actually not that great, or it's "this video stinks so I'm not going to put it out" and it could actually be fantastic content in the eyes of the viewer. The only person who can truly decide if something is "good" or not, is the viewer. And that dang audience retention graph is a very telling sign. It usually tells you that you still need a few more years of editing experience, a few years of better practice your talking in front of camera skills. Always my biggest struggle when editing. I think I'm presenting the information the audience wants, but maybe I have absolutely no idea what the audience ACTUALLY wants. Guess we just have to keep trucking on.
I'm super excited Nick! :D........I just noticed my watch hours are going up and although my subs are not even 50, (one month into this business already) I kind of begin to understand how this works. Another expert on these things told me the more videos you upload, the more chances are so the algorythim will recommend to people so this coming week and in the future I'm gonna go full steam uploading videos, 6 a week, with only one day off. Doesn't take me that long, from beginning to end, about an hour or so......I guess this is the key to get started and be on my way to get monetized faster, the more videos, the more people will see them, even on UA-cam, not just my personal friends and family. I'm only curious how many more subs will I get in 3 months from now. I'm gonna work on that starting tomorrow.....Super excited!! :D :D :D......
i made videos teaching english on my other channel, had 90 subs. then i realized that's not what i wanted to do, so i took a step back and then decided to start this new channel. i only have 8 subs so far, but i'm making so much more content because it's actually stuff that i like talking about

Nick, great tips as always. In the last year of me playing around on UA-cam your advice and recommendations have already helped me. Now that I've decided to start over from scratch, I'm hoping to use even more of your tips to help my channel grow.
2 things that really hit close were focusing on quality content over metrics and pacing. For me it has been a real struggle with both because I tend to go really in on things I want to do which has meant I am laser focused on getting new videos and learning the ropes (editing, styling, filming) and all while dealing with my own mental health issue. The end result is that I put in the time to do things, and then get really down when I see the videos not getting views or not picking up subscribers. I have to constantly remind myself to slow down and actually enjoy myself so that I don't get burnt out and so I can create content that actually helps people and is entertaining. It is these kinds of videos that you put out that really help anchor me and help me stay focused, like you said, UA-cam is a long term thing and staying motivated is the important part. Everything else will follow. My question would be, what is the best way to figure out where you can improve before you start getting enough views to know what your audience likes or doesn't like? My biggest problem right now I think is that I am working on content, and not really getting enough views yet to know what is going to work and what doesn't work.

Excellent video Nick! Very Helpful and true information!!! You helped me so much last time you answered a question on live stream for me and that has led me to TODAY when I have successfully nailed down our niche within our niche! But it's NOT BARBIE! lol, and it is going to help me focus our website/blog as well!! My only question is how do I successfully pivot my channel when it comes to the channel page, the about page, and the channel keywords? I still plan to keep all the videos, but I don't want new traffic to not subscribe because they think they are going to wake up to a bunch of Barbies & Air Fryers, BUT I also don't want to go changing keywords and channel info too early and confuse the algorithm. Also can we "GROW OUT" of being a kids channel? The new videos are "not for kids." I would love to hear your advice!! Thank You! 😆😃😁

Welcome aboard!
What editing software do you and/or your editor use to edit the video. Do you recommend them and if not what do you recommend. I'm a begging to edit videos but I want something that will also be good for when I get good at editing.
We use Premiere Pro.
Thank You! 😆😃😁
