Inside the Golden Ball pub is a plaque commemorating that the news about the Battle of Trafalgar being made public to the village. When I was a Civil Servant many many years ago I was stood in a cue for my dinner at Sam Clegg butchers and Keith Harris (Orville the Duck) was stood in front of me moaning to the owner about the size of his tax bill.
Loved the latest Poulton video. I was born and brought up there living just off Blackpool old Road. Married at the Methodist Church and lived in PLF until emigrating to Australia 🇦🇺 in 1990. Loved seeing my old stomping ground…. Thank you 😊
I certainly well remembered poulton le fylde in those days in the 70s.. Now the town has much developments with new shopping mall, more parking areas, some new buildings around the town square. The big church located right in the the town centre bring back the memory lane. I used to visit my ex gf in poulton often during the weekends so i have many sweet and fond memories there..once again thank you Stephen for showing us an interesting and in depth of poulton le fylde..
Thanks for all your videos Stephen. Always lots of memories of Blackpool and the surrounding areas. I was Christened in St Chads April 1965. I lived in Highcross Road and went to Sheaf Street CofE school, now Poulton St. Chads CofE. My Grandma and Grandad lived in Ashburton Road in Blackpool, North Shore. I live in Japan now.
Quick, duck your head! Oo that was close. Anything you'd like to say on Kim Jong-un for our readers? I wish you well and safety in these ridiculous times.
Lovely video, I’m a local and you did a great job. The Stocks & Shillings bar at the start used to be the Natwest bank. I used to work in the old section of the civic centre too - beautiful building
It’s a good night out in Poulton, lots of craft beers and live music every Saturday night in the old townhall.A few wine bars and restaurants so it’s ok, hard work trying to get a taxi after last orders lol.
An enormous thanks for this video Stephen, my Mum and Dad had a caravan in Poulton , that was a lovely place to go to for us. That’s over twenty years ago now, special heartfelt memories come flooding back! Bless you xx
Nice looking place and what a lovely walk around i did enjoy this one. It’s a really nice area especially to retire and the area around the railway station looks very nice and upper class. The station itself is well kept and very smart and reminds me of the Great Central Railway practice of have an island platform, (with tracks either side). The little park at the end looks delightful. Lovely vlog Stephen 😉👌
It has a very different ambience in the evenings and becomes a party town for those to old for Blackpool and the local council estate "Grange". If you've ever driven back down the Garstang Road late at night you can often see fights and allsorts going on as people wend there way back to Grange Park.
Really enjoyed that Steve,Poulton le fylde looks a great place to have a mooch, very interesting, thanks again Steve for your great commentary 'and approach '👌
Great video best yet, I can send to my friends abroad. The post in the square is a whipping post from corporal punishment times🤣 the table was used on market days or so I was taught at the school you passed. Many thanks👍
I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else than Poulton, my only negatives about Poulton is the “toy shop” that recently opened is filled with more adult stuff such as rare cars and trains (an actual toy store would’ve been a brilliant idea but the owners very rich) and the desert shop in the teanlowe, no joke every cupcake I’ve had has ice cold solid buttercream and sponge :| It is really nice place, never gets boring :)
There are so many places I would love to see I really enjoyed your Preston video. I have a aunt that lives there. I really get a lot of joy watching your work.
Right sit down. First thanks you kept your promise. Loads of memories. I used to go to Baines Grammar school. It was a boys grammar school and I left after 7 years in 1978. Stephen Hoddy your chip shop friend taught french there in those days. The Ribble busses used to park near the school to bring us and take us home to all areas. If we missed the bus, detention fir example, we had to walk up into the town to catch a service bus. The red Ribble buses used to come from Blackpool up past the library and turn left into the town. Then continue around At Chad's and go down Breck Rd past the station. Baines used At Chad's for founders Day service every year and everyone except those sitting their General Studies A level went. It's a beautiful church. Booths used to be in the shop unit to the left of the lunchbox. But now seems to own the Teanlowe. If you are not familiar with Booths, think Waitrose. Above the Teanlowe Centre is a function suite where annual dinner dances, big band nights took place, Mammoth Productions had discos there. It was called The Rainbow Room after, I presume, the dining dance experience in New York. Need a mortgage for a night out there! Imagine all the school children walking up to St Chad's once per year! I loved the balcony in St Chads. Imagine big red double decker buses coming right through the centre of the town and off towards Skipool. ! They actually went to Cleveleys and Fleetwood. At the very bottom of Breck Rd there used to be a disused level crossing, which may explain why the crossing road is called Station Rd. I did use to be able to get a train from Thornton to Poulton. Some wonder views, I've never seen the large new properties where Keith Harris lived. ......did he fall off his roof? Lovely weather you picked, beautiful video. Thanks for the memories.
I love poulton for a mooch round the teenlow centre and I love the pork shop food new penny is nice the cafe for icecreams and hot chocolates and meals ,they have a booths store so it's always busy in the carpark ,yeah the Turkish barbers was a pub /cafe it was called the grapevine it only recently become a barbers not long ago good video something a bit different very posh fy6 area nice change of scenery good video , can't wait for the next new videos , I would maybe consider doing another video of kitkham round the churches it's full of history and very interesting just a thought for your next live stream
Thanks ever so much Stephen for going inside St Chad's Church, and showing us around Nice church, do they have the farmers market on Monday in Poulton.
Hey great vid, Poultonian here! Lovely to see your town through the eyes of someone else. The iron railings that were once around the church were removed in the early 1940's to help with the war effort. The Pendalino would probably be the Blackpool to London service takes 2 hours approx doesn't stop at Poulton unfortunately 🙂 #pton #plf
Lived in Carleton 84-86 and had a pools round near where you started the video. My drinking pub was the Bull tap, my dad used to use the Golden Ball tap that had a snooker table, had been going in there Friday night's for 6 months with my Dad & uncle when one night my dad told the LL that next Friday we wouldn't be in as we were going out for my birthday. How old will you be? 18 I said smiling finishing my drink Got a free one the next week
Hi just watching your video on Poulton just about the table in the square from what I believe it was used for gutting fish and the post was the old whipping post hope this helps at St Chad's back door is the pirate grave
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always what a live place I will have to visit next time I come to Blackpool got some nice shops too have a great evening xx
Fabulous and Thank you Stephen really enjoyed Poulton le fylde we were there years and years ago so it brought back some lovely memories as my auntie lived there and we stayed with her one summer and also went into the thatched house for a drink 🥃 it is such a pretty little place and we have passed that train station into Blackpool many times 😁 Thanks again for doing these places outside Blackpool it’s lovely to visit them and then go back to the beautiful 🌊😁 take care Pauline from Blackpool living in Canada 🍁
It seemed very telling that the through traffic was heavy and noisy but the charming old market square was devoid of supporters and people. It could have been such a special place with a little thought from planners. Great little tour down memory lane but perhaps could be filmed early am or a Bank holiday?
Hello Steve how are you it looks a beautiful village I have never been there but I know its not far from Blackpool me and our Elaine were in Blackpool last Tuesday we hope to come back again soon for the lights in bispham best wishes to you take care stay safe xx
I used to work in poulton and they used to say there was a pirate s grave stone in st chads grave yard, with scul and cross bones . Know it’s of interest to cubs . Maybe worth looking into next time . Enjoyed the video as you say when the crocuses are out they are a beautiful sight . I always enjoyed it back in the day . Thank you .
I love these videos, showing different places even vlogging your home town , I've done a few vlogs on Leigh though I'm not steady with the camera , Poulton looks good to visit we may just check that place out there are Pizza and Kebab shops everywhere you go these days lol and Leigh there is one nearly every street
