OMG THANKS FOR MAKING THESE VIDEOS!!! You are a lifesaver. i am learning Gavotte from Mignon, Gavotte, and Minuet in G from the second books. I need to learn these 3 songs within 2 weeks, and with enough practice and your videos i can possibly make my deadline. WISH ME LUCK!!!
Thank you Allyson for all your videos. Please do Book 3. I don't think I can go on without your videos along with my weekly lessons from my teacher. You are the best!
@Rogjp - lol! You're right - it should be staccato. I had to listen to the video and had a good laugh - I usually don't let people play that section legato. But it is done legato sometimes - you may hear it elsewhere. The staccato is correct, and, I think, more musically interesting. However, sometimes I play things a bit differently depending which way the wind blows - guess it was from the south-west that day.
Thanks again for the excellent videos. I have a question about this piece - in the video you say that the sixteenth note passage that begins in the second bar is played legato, but in my editions (I have two, one English and one Japanese) it's marked staccato, with a dot over every note. Maybe you have a different edition?
Alright - I just managed to delete a comment I was attempting to reply to - rats!! Re bowing in (this piece or another Gavotte? hmmmm) bar 6 - there are several editions of the Suzuki violin school books, and each one has some changes to the bowings. If you are playing from a different edition than me (likely the newest one) - I may do the odd thing that is different. Just do what your teacher says or what is in your book - ultimately not critical, but potentially confusing, I know.
OMG, thank you so much! This was the most helpful video yet... answered all the little questions I had with this piece; perfect!

Thanks for the speedy response. It's nice to know that you can play a piece slightly differently depending on your preference.

@amy00able - the way to play the piece is largely the same, but I expect you have it a fifth lower. !

Too much talking, Allyson. I'd love to play it once thru with you without interruptions.
Check the description.
i love it but i play viola
You talk too much in between ten notes. ..more than play it
The description of this video clearly states that this is a talk-through video and that there is another video to practice playing along.
you are great. i love you. Can i be your child? lol
lol! Thanks! Sure!
