Agree, Sorry for responding to old post, but Jesus Christ, Havok plays AWESOME music, but their vocals is just making me wanna take a sledgehammer to my dickhole.typical preachy weedsmoker dellusionized woker than thou vibes
Each Verse and Bridge is about different topics of people taking things too seriously. First its aimed towards thrashers who pick on peopke for not wearing the right atire for thrash, the second is aimed towards black metal chodes trying to be more evil, and the last is to political bands taking polotics too seriously instead of just playing music. Music is to be enjoyed and even do some thinking. But its not a fad. Thrash was trying to end that mindset but it turns out we became the thing we hate. Thank you Lich King
I have admint to the same thing but i got hooked up by Sir Anthony Hopkins headbanging to combat mosh 🤘 now i listened to whole list of songs and csnt get anought of it.
not knocking it (love the song) just think it's funny that its "just be chill with each other. by the way here's why these themes are stupid." gave me a giggle.
This song speaks to me so much as I hate gatekeeping. A good example is how all these kids discovered Master of Puppets because of Stranger Things. People love to razz on them but at least they’re listening to good music. Metal is for the kids!
This is exactly what I have been saying about the scene man. I mainly go to small basement shows now because everyone actually has a good time. So much gate keeping bullshit in metal, it’s ridiculous. Thought this shit was suppose to be about not giving a fuck..
I grew up listing to Hardcore and Thrash in the 80s, so yes I am OLD :) Been to probably +150 shows in my lifetime, and at one point lived a few houses down from Bobby G. (Overkill's guitarist early on in the band's history) in Staten Island. Knew many of those dudes , I was immersed in the "scene" back in the day. It's been refreshing to hear a lot of the new wave of thrash bands like Lich King, they really capture the 80s sound and improve on it. TBH though, I have never really payed attention to the lyrics, not then, not now. I just like the music for what it is, the sound. The way I look at it, I am never going to agree 100% with anyone's views, whether political, etc.., but if the music is good then that is enough for me.
Really? Ive always thought Jhofffilms was poking fun at those kinds of people themselves in sort of a tongue in cheek manner. I dont think the folks at jhofffilms take shit too seriously either
Because Spike said he would beat the shit out of you if he ever saw you on the road? Is that why you pay others to tour your music? Don't want to take a hit to the mouth?
As much as I like the song (and the whole album), I just hate the main punchline of the lyrics. I don't listen to metal because it sounds fun. I listen to metal because it sounds evil, dark, violent, inaccessible and any other similar adjectives. Metal would never have such an impact if it was just fun, ESPECIALLY the extreme genres like thrash where first albums were named "Kill Em All", "Reign in Blood" or "Endless Pain". No, it doesn't mean that metal CAN'T be fun but it's not SUPPOSED to be.
When I say "metal's supposed to be fun" I don't mean it's supposed to be silly or goofy, I mean you're supposed to enjoy it. You enjoy the dark and evil sounds but I'm betting it's just about the SOUND and the lyrics could be about anything. Maybe I'm wrong. At any rate, "metal's supposed to be fun" is about the people that take metal so seriously that they don't enjoy themselves, or try to keep others from enjoying it. The gatekeepers and dickheads.
Lich King i mean, if that's what you want to tell through it, then that's okay. It's just the word "fun" that has a bad conotation in that case. Fun is what you're supposed to feel when you listen to the music you like but what metal music expresses is rather far from fun, both musically and lyrically. And I'm not against bands that write silly lyrics (cause I listen to Tankard and you guys lmao) yet I think "darkness of evil of darkness of evil" will always play the bigger part in lyrics because that's basically what metal was born with
Anthrax always had the right Idea of Thrash Metal in my opinion. They captured the "fun" aspect of it perfectly back in '87. Look at their interviews back then, they always knew which end was up and never took themselves or the music too seriously haha.
I don't agree with these lyrics as much as I thought I would. We should be worried about keeping the spirit alive and purging false metal. That can't be fun? And politics in music is unfortunately inevitable, people sing about what they are passionate about. And if gun law reform happens to stimulate their mind more than evil darkness blah blah blah, what's it matter to you? It's called substance. Not saying I disagree with ALL songs from Lich King, but geez seems awful blameful for people who are essentially standing for nothing but, idk... Calling people out?
The song's mostly meant as a bitchfest about tired tropes, not a hard-line knock-that-shit-off (except for the stop worrying about poser bits). You can't purge false metal. It's out there and if it sells, it sells. Yeah, Black Veil Brides suck, but they're a gateway band. Everyone that likes them are kids that are going to find real metal bands to enjoy, and if they don't they weren't metal anyway. "if gun law reform happens to stimulate their mind more than evil darkness blah blah blah, what's it matter to you? It's called substance." I would not agree that that's called substance. Unless it's causing real change, which I would argue music doesn't do, it's as substantive as any other song. If they're passionate about it, sure, go ahead and bore everyone with your lyrics about how the government is evil.
@@LichKingMetal John Lennon caused change through music, Michael Jackson, Gary Moore, depends of you want to see and be part of the change. I don't think even John Lennon made any actual change. He made songs that paired well with existing social movements, but I sincerely doubt his music caused any change, let alone the others. You never hear about how things were bad until we all heard that one The Byrds song, and we wised up.
