Hello Haley, thank you so much for these videos. I’m a freshman in a community college who has no idea about what to do to one day get into dental school. These videos help a lot. You should make a video of the differences between dental hygienists and actual dentists!
Hi Haley good morning happy Wednesday morning and happy vlogmas day and happy December and happy holidays and I loved your channel and your editing is sooo good
@@tiana3846 I switched to psychology because I needed to save money and saved a lot of credits but the finance route is definitely doable I have friends that are business majors in the pre dental club
I'm a junior in high school and am planning on going into dentistry. I have 140 hours in shadowing (40 with a dentist and 100 with a dermatologist), and 80 hours of volunteering at a hospital. Will these help me for dental school? Also, do you think it matters where I go for undergrad? Will going to a certain school help my chances, or will I have the same shot at any school?
Hi! Most dental schools only “count” shadowing hours from college and afterwards. I still put my high school dental shadowing on my app but it did not count towards my 100 hours required dental shadowing. I wouldn’t put dermatology shadowing on your dental school app. Hospital volunteering is good though! Again, hours from high school don’t necessarily “count” on your dental school application but you can still list significant things to show your early interest and dedication. That’s my advice!
I would attend an undergrad with a strong pre-dental club/association/society and ideally a decent pre-health program with good student counselors to help guide you and build your schedule. Usually this is the “larger” state schools. More resources and better planning will lead to better grades and more opportunities to help you get into dental school! Good luck! You’re doing great already.
Do you think joining the honors college makes a big difference in dental school admissions? I am not going to join my first semester but I can always transfer into it. Or is it better to focus on earning a higher GPA in non-honors classes?
Hello Haley, I'm currently an undecided major and I'm thinking of doing a major in Spanish and a minor in biochemistry. But I don't know how strong my application will be when applying for dental school.
It’s totally great to major in what you’re passionate about! Just make sure to keep your grades up and do well in your pre-requisites for dental school.
do you think its smart/worth taking ap chem and bio during hs to just get them out the way for college or will i have to actually retain the info for when entering dental school (currenlty a sophomore in hs so i got some time before choosing)
Chemistry is not directly relevant in dental school but biology will be. Mostly the upper level biology courses though like Physiology and Anatomy and Microbiology. Just confirm the dental school will accept AP BIO as your pre-req for college level Bio 1.

Good idea!
I like clinical laboratory science as a bachelors degree for premed or pre dentistry.
That’s a great one because you can get plenty of other jobs later if you decide against med/dental. I have a few classmates with that degree.

Im going to major in finance and am taking pre dental requisites
That’s super smart! You’ll be more ahead on the business aspect of dental for sure. And gain some unique critical thinking skills
Same I’m doing this path!! But I’m so doubtful and hesitant of it! How is it going for you?

I was not in the honors college but many people were! It’s just up to you what is the best fit.

Do high school gpa matter to get into pre dental?
Just to get into a reputable college for your pre-dental studies
What University of Michigan??? oh no Haley, you didn't...
What’s wrong with that school??
@@ameeraali7482 it’s NOT “The Ohio State University” that’s what’s wrong. All kidding aside, UofM is a great school…
