Offering can be for different reasons, sometimes in a metaphorical way. Example: Offering water on Shivalingam means clean and pure devotion. Nor Shiva consumes it and nor will we. Agar kisi ko ye kehna hai ki Shiva alcohol bhog karta hai to Shiva ko cobra venom bhi charhaya jata hai, to uska bhog kyu nahi karta?
