thanks. that may be the problem with my 03 impala. ps stopped working. i replaced the pump still no power and the fluid seemed stagnant in the resevoir.. Im going to get the vacuum set up and see if that does it. BTW i replaced the rack and pinion several month ago and it worked fine up until recently.
Is your pump making noise or whining? I know it may seem unlikely but I have seen several new pumps not work right out of the box, I had a buick I was working on a while back the first pump I installed whined and grinded like crazy, I took that one back and got another one it was dead straight out of the box no noise no nothing just didnt pump fluid at all, took that one back gotna third one, installed and bled it, worked great I pulled it out of the garage went about a mile down the street on a test drive and it went out, hard to steer and power assist was coming and going. Took that one back got s refund from my parts guy, went to the junkyard and got a factory pump put it on and it worked perfect, never had a complaint from that customer about her power steering again and I still work on all her cars. These parts we get now a days are hit and miss even right out of the box. If you dont have bubbles in your reservoir or any whining when turning the wheel and no power assist I would suspect a faulty new pump.
I have an 03 Impala with a leaking ps pump. It’s a 3.8, and pump is underneath the engine so to speak. How hard are those to change? Looks like a hell of a job to me.
I have a 2004 chevy impala SS supercharged can you tell me where to find my power steering pump. The manual that came with it doesnt show me where it is.
I believe those are down real low your alternator should be towards your firewall if you look down from the alternator it should be under that you will see a pulley underneath almost in line with the engine crank pulley to the back of car that should be the power steering pump pulley
Hi sir I need help my steering wheel is stiff and make whine noises…on 2003 impala .. but I also notice I lose fluid after 1day .. what to do replace the pump or hose ? Or seal ? … when I open the resovior I notice bubble milky fluid and it’s low .. and it appears to be moving .. .. should I replace the pump or check for leaks ?
Yes more than likely I don't think any of the pumps come with pulleys from the parts store. You can probably rent the tool at most auto parts stores I think Oreillys and auto zone rent for free if you bring the tool back
That's because this is for the 3.4L instead of of the 3.8L. UA-camrs really need to specify engine on vehicle ranges that have more then one engine. 00-05 has two engines. 3.4L (in the video) and 3.8L. Also known as 3800 Series II.
I'm not sure of the exact model but it's a mity vac you can pick them up at most auto parts stores or online. They are very useful for all sorts of things
It wasn't making any noise, just no visible movement. I disconnected the return line and it pumped out. I used a make shift setup using a vacuum cleaner and hose. Now it makes noise and still doesn't work. I'll buy a a hand pump soon.
"❤It's a little bit easier if you only have two hands" an unintended funny.
Thanks this video helped a lot of us begginers 😅
Do you know if the SS trim has it mounted the same way just with a baby supercharger on top?
Its been a while since I've worked on a ss I'm sorry but I don't remember
@@HooptiesGarage all good I found it myself it's underneath on the backside. All for the m90 smh gonna be a pain. Good vid tho thanks for the reply.

They actually aren't that bad, if you havent done one just find a good guide to help you along.
How to change a power steering pump on a 04 Chevy Impala SS the 3.8
Nah dude it’s bad. It’s a hassle to put it back in, it’s so tight
mines is in the back down under
Yeah I think you have a different engine there's a couple different configurations depending on the engine
@@HooptiesGarage thnxz for posting though my father is a mechanic I'm tryna save him the work lol
Is it possible to run the car without a pump at all? Would a shorter serpentine belt work?
I really don't know I have bypassed a/c compressors in the past but never tried to bypass a power steering pump
Is there a specific fluid I should use if I just want to change the power steering fluid?
I've just used the Prestone fluid in my Impala for the past 13 years. GM has it's fluid but I don't know what the dealership charges for a quart.

I would check for leaks first if could be a hose or rack leaking causing the pump to go dry or low
What do i all need to do this repair?
Power steering pump pulley removal kit and a mighty vac with the right attachment if you want to bleed it correctly.
@@HooptiesGarage do i still need the pulley removal kit if im only replacing the pump

Ok so how can you bleed it without the vacuum tool???
I see the 2000-2001 must be different becuase the one on my car is actually toward the firewall behind N just below the alternator

20 in Hg or 10 psi
