Decided to give the Mavic a real flight test. Flew over to my friends house, which is a little over a mile away. Sped it up for the video as I took my time flying over
Mine disconnected after owning him for 3 days and instead of coming home to me, he flew into the wild to fend for himself 😔 To this day I still have hope that he will come back to me before he starves to death
I along with everyone else that has had there drone fly away from them hates DJI because they will refuse to refund your drone. Even if they can not come up with any excuses to be able to blame the accident on you. They will then make up one Such as “You we’re flying the drone in an improper flight environment” hmmm maybe they could tell me what an improper flight environment is in the instructions of what can void the warranty. They tried to tell me that it was my fault the drone disconnected in less that 700m away 🤷♀️ They then said the best they can do is give me 15% off a new one. Psh as if. If anyone wants to buy a battery, charger and controller off me, hmu please
Lost my phantom 4 in the ocean. I was flying it around a mile out over ocean when it lost contact with me. I thought it would come back but no luck. I threw $2500 in the sea.
Update: I went out for a walk the other day and found him after 7 months and he’s crippled, lost his eye sight and his hearts not pumping so I’m gonna get him a heart transplant from a mates Mavic but I don’t know if I should bother paying to put him under the blade to see if I can revive him or not 😔
haha that was pretty cool.. nice to see Mavic returns just fine even with an aircraft disconnect. I lost a Karma that way but i had also lost GPS right before losing aircraft signal.
Holy shit that goes a hell of a lot further than tne dji fpv recieved mine yesterday and I dont go very far away all not impressed tbh ....what can we do to extend the range, like not far as in still in line of sight? 😢
Ride 906 : Ignore all the naysayers commenting that you broke the law this way or that blah blah. Like a few others who have commented, pushing the limits is not only what drones are for, but life. And I personally had no idea drones could do what you just did. So I for one applaud you because you showed me that a limit I once thought existed for drones wasn't actually there. Now don't go breaking the law each and every time you take the thing out, but if you do not know the limit of the thing and you want to see what it can do at least once, keeping peoples safety and privacy in mind, then I say go for it!
I actually came up with a super snappy retort to the whole "Invasion of privacy" paranoid drone thing. "Trust me hon/dude, nobody cares that much." Anyway, thanks for the great video, and btw BIG LOL at 2:54, haha that was awesome. Something I've noticed... It always seems like in such videos, that it takes getting way closer to reconnect when signal drops out, like the dropout range is considerably farther than the reconnect range. Is that how it actually is or is it not as bad as all that? I'm close to getting one of these birds and am scouring and scouring the Net, crash coursing in all things Mavic before I get near one.
NightRunner417 Haha, Nice comeback. As for the re-connect distance, it varies a little, but its not horrible at all. Only happened a few times to me so far and was usually somewhere between 5-30 meters depending on what caused the signal dropout.
Yeah ok then... I kinda thought maybe either some people were just letting it RTH without interfering for whatever reason, or I was simply misinterpreting what I was seeing. Funny thing is... As a responsible and non-wealthy adult, I am "supposed" to be talking myself out of the expense of a Mavic, finding flaws in the very idea to support not doing it. Sadly, the opposite is happening, and I can feel the inevitability of the Amazon purchase looming steadily closer. I even drove all over my county today, checking out some places to fly, and I found a couple of good ones. I even have a coworker that says that she wants to go with me on my first trip out when I get it, lol. It's inevitable!
Same here. I plan on ordering one tomorrow or Wednesday, even though I'm completely aware I have no legitimate reason to get one, and it will be the third most expensive thing I've ever purchased.
Nice video, your buddy could be seen from the street so its not like you invaded privacy or anything. The mavic is awesome and low priced compared to drones I have built that don't even have half the range and flight time.
I agree, I have never liked that word for rc aircraft and I only say it now because everyone knows "it means an rc aircraft". For me, the word "Drone" will always invoke images in my mind of a Predator bombing a city from high altitude.
Ride 906 cool.. I know before I made the decision to get the karma I was going to get the mavic but something has held me back.. I just like the idea of consumer replacement parts for the karma.
michael mcgee Yea for sure, the easily purchaseable & replaceable parts are a pretty big bonus and was honestly one of the major selling points for me. On the flip side though, I was able to get DJI refresh with the mavic..which seems to be a bit more comprehensive compared to GoPro's insurance.
Flying near trees..highways...electricity cables....buildings...private property.... all the rules of drone flying broken in one vid LOL. What if you had witnessed a murder (it does kinda look like the kind of district where people chop each other up and bury the body parts in the basement)? Just saying...
I agre with "S" i think the use of the word "SPY" when used with Drones is just as bad as the Word "Bomb" in a plane. You should def reconsider the choice of words as the droning community is already misrepresented enough. Glad your video went out well and you did not loose your drone or fell out of the sky and hurt or damaged someones property. Just in the future please be more mindful of how your actions with Drones portray an image for the rest of the droning community. cheers and fly Safe!
Understand the point your trying to make, but I have to respectfully disagree, especially with the comparison. One is meant to cause panic in an enclosed area and the other is people being paranoid about something not directly or immediately concerning them. However I totally understand peoples paranoia (even though I have yet to encounter anyone in person that thinks drones are spying on them), and even took that into consideration when titling the video, hence the use of shudder quotes around the word to imply an ironic / non-literal translation and making it known that I knew the person.
i have a video of this on my ch. i was flying my inspire 1 in my freaking driveway, a neighbor comes over in his car, pissed off! he says "why is your drone flying over my house" oh man. this has happened to me several times. this time i got it on video. fly safe and be packing when you fly your drone. do the open carry and it really cuts down on the "tuff guy" sh*t.
Here we go with every reason to stop drones from flying...."Take Down The Title" it is a request.....find something else. Seriously...don't use the names of illegal/criminal acts in your title. Should your use of a drone get out of hand, your title is evidence of intent....period, even if not applied to a case related to the person you allege is your friend. My buddy is going to court June 7th. over a criminal comment made on Facebook and no crime committed to an individual. However, he choose the wrong words to publicly express his thoughts and actions. Now he has to deal with being stupid.
Now this is the video I have been looking for somebody flying a drone at a great distance then dropping down interacting with people while at a great distance wow I always have seen people do the distance test at a high altitude then come back I never seen nobody actually go a great distance then send their Drome to actually interact with people from that great distance I am amazed
EXACTLY!!!! What HE said!!! (Or she? I'm guessing u are a "He"...just my guess!!) I love this video, too! I want to buy a drone so this was awesome to see how high up it goes, the clear video it takes, etc. What I want to know now is which drone this was and how much it costs? Also, can u talk with someone through it? Does it pick up sound and/or can u hear sound through the video it takes? Thanks for info!!
I fly the Mavic too. But, this is why a lot of non-pilots automatically "hate" drones. They assume any drone is in the air spying on them (which is ignorance). I know he was your buddy - but the label of your video "Spying.." - just gives them more fodder for their paranoia. When my neighbors joke, "who are you spying on?" - I say - "Do you think anyone around here is worthy of spying on?" - and "Do you think it's spying when there's obviously a drone overhead?". If they only knew how wide angle the lens is - and how close you'd have to be to get any detail - they'd forget about it.
Totally Understand your point, and even took that into consideration when titling the video. Hence the shudder quotes around the word to immediately imply a non-literal or ironic use of the word and making sure it was known it was a friend as well. Both those were intentionally done to dissuade those types of people.
It's a tough call and very ironic when you think about it. You could have titled it, "Visiting My Friend" and people would be less reactionary but you'd get a lot less views. Title it "Spying", and oh boy lots of people insta-hate it and you get way more views.
Your lucky you missed the power lines in the RTH. It would have BBQd it. The drone can't see the power lines. Not going to flame you for breaking drone etiquette flying over the highway etc. I'm sure the drone police will be here soon enough. Just be weary of your surroundings if you send it beyond line of sight.
I don't think it would have necessarily barbecued it but it could have very easily snagged and hung itself from one of the wires. Also, it would have been the talk of the whole neighborhood, which our hobby definitely doesn't need. For perspective, I hit high tension lines once with my modded FPV EasyStar. It hit right at the motor mount level and broke the prop and tore the motor free of the body. No barbecuing took place, just impact damage, which honestly suprised me. Also, no, I wasn't trying to fly through the wires. I forgot that they were there and on that setup they were really hard to see until it was too late. I flew old school FPV for years when it was a relatively new thing, and you're right... wires are a true menace to FPV type flight and you REALLY have to watch for them, always be super aware of your surroundings.
It was unsafe, and also the thing that anti-drone people rant against, that it could have fallen into traffic, interfered with actual pilots that often fly along highways as a navigation aid and wouldn't be able to see the little drone and could mess up their windshield, and the privacy and noise pollution concerns of having a buzzing drone in a neighborhood setting. Its much better for the hobby to keep these in rural areas flying over unpopulated wilderness. That's something everyone can agree is safe and wholesome.
If you weren't aware, more and more people are shooting at drones, getting drone "zap" guns that interrupt signal and cause crashes, and are demanding anti drone legislation from their representatives. The haters aren't right, but in a democracy everyone's opinions matter, and a compromise is usually the best solution. That compromise generally means don't fly over busy streets, and especially highways, don't be where other aircraft are likely to be, and don't fly over neighborhoods and if you have to stay at high altitude. This violated all those common courtesies. 10 years from now when we have to register for a drone license at the DMV, with a massive lawbook to follow, we'll otherwise know who to thank.
Renata Yea, It returns to launch location if it gets disconnected. Or as soons as the signal recovers you can opt to control it yourself again by cancelling the rth
They are meant to, but it happened to me after owning mine for 3 days and instead of coming home to me, he flew into the wild to fend for himself 😔 To this day I still have hope that he will come back to me
Question, when you lost the signal at your buddies house, would the drone come back automatically and land where it was first launched? Just in case remote or phone took a dump. BTW that was just awesome.
my friend works on different shift than mine so when i'm working he sometimes flies into my workplace with this drone lol. Very cool drone, I think I'm gonna buy it too
awesome video. Why do you think it disconnected? Out of range? I thought it had a three mile range or something.. and you said your friend was about a mile away? I would love to have one and I'm just curious...
I'd say a number of factors including range, objects in between RC and Drone. Not sure how power lines have an effect if any? He was lowering it further and further, increasing the number of objects blocking his view.
Somebody could help me...There are some criminals that for some time I think they are using a drone in the attic where I live and in the crawlspace, in addition to tracking me they are poisoning me with different kinds of gases or poisons, the question is, is there any way to block them with the same technology that they use? I appreciate your help ... little I know about technology ...
You do know that the First Amendment doesn't apply to UA-cam comments? Please just delete these whining drone police comments. You are not obliged to give them space on your channel or a right of reply under your tattoos either.
I got mine just under 4 miles from a full battery. just made it back in time before it was telling me I had to land I kept pausing and taking it over. My butt was squeeking that day.
Mine disconnected after owning him for 3 days and instead of coming home to me, he flew into the wild to fend for himself 😔 To this day I still have hope that he will come back to me before he starves to death
Jake Fox rofl
I feel your pain
My drone got stuck like 50 feet in the air and is still there to this day😢
I along with everyone else that has had there drone fly away from them hates DJI because they will refuse to refund your drone. Henry Hebrard had to mention it since I make car videos as well haha
Lol the mom flipped you off

TIMMY....THE GUN
haha that was pretty cool.. nice to see Mavic returns just fine even with an aircraft disconnect. I lost a Karma that way but i had also lost GPS right before losing aircraft signal.
Epic freak out at 4:03 LOL
just got the mini 2 se last week and still getting used to it. its so fun. i only been up to 320 feet and like 600 feet away.
What a time to be alive! Great vid/idea! :)
Just bought my Mavic love it! This is what I want to get upto with it lol (aswell as some productive things) great vid :)
Will the mini 3 Pro go THAT far? I ordered yesterday online and for the Fly More Plus pack. With a 128 GB sd card and Two year warranty with DJI
Holy shit that goes a hell of a lot further than tne dji fpv recieved mine yesterday and I dont go very far away all not impressed tbh ....what can we do to extend the range, like not far as in still in line of sight? 😢
Also remember line of sight. Trees thing like that get in the way.

What state is this in?
The movement of the gimbal on your Mavic seems like it's jerking a little bit.
HOW do you ADD music to drone videos???
Your front disconnected because of the power line near the house you're lucky it didn't drift before the return home feature kicked in
When he was walking over to lift up the hood I thought he was walking over to grab it
I was waiting for them when waiving down and pull out a baseball bat and hit the drone😂
I actually came up with a super snappy retort to the whole "Invasion of privacy" paranoid drone thing. "Trust me hon/dude, nobody cares that much." Anyway, thanks for the great video, and btw BIG LOL at 2:54, haha that was awesome.

I've noticed the same with WiFi routers. It's like they send beacon frames with a lower TX than the rest of them.
Same here. I plan on ordering one tomorrow or Wednesday, even though I'm completely aware I have no legitimate reason to get one, and it will be the third most expensive thing I've ever purchased.
Look at that he turned on the return home function...
So you only got as far as one mile? the spark can do much better, whats up?
I've a little tello drone that weight 0.8 kg and goes with wifi signal but it seems to be strong even in the wind even if should be an indoor drone
So when it disconnects, it returns back to home?
Nice video, your buddy could be seen from the street so its not like you invaded privacy or anything. The mavic is awesome and low priced compared to drones I have built that don't even have half the range and flight time.
What’s a good drone to get now?
My recommendation would be the Autel Evo 2!
Very cool haha
And this is way people hate our hobby. Still nice shots. Btw I have a dji Inspire 2 so I like quadcopters - drones sounds malicious
I agree, I have never liked that word for rc aircraft and I only say it now because everyone knows "it means an rc aircraft". For me, the word "Drone" will always invoke images in my mind of a Predator bombing a city from high altitude.
My DJI mini 3 Pro arrives TOMORROW!!!
So freaking coool
How far in miles was it???
Cool😁
i looked away for a sec and when i looked back at 4:44 i was like wtf haha!
oohh over a busy motorway...
I want one so bad. But supporting 4 kids I'll never own one.
so cool! loved it! lets do it againnnn!
Ha! That was cool man!!
Where did you end up buying the mavic from?
michael mcgee Best Buy , my local one actually had one in stock finally.

1000
around $100/$300
Misson impossible drone version (sorry for bad inglish)

This is so fake...drones don't go that low tht far away it'll loose complete signal
low res much
Subaru owners psh

Thumbs up if you would support a law giving people the right to shoot down drones with net cannons if the drone flies over their property.
this sucks
So fake, FML, his reaction to the done disconnecting was laughable
This is illegal as hell !!
Good fake....I think...
Freak
Now this is the video I have been looking for somebody flying a drone at a great distance then dropping down interacting with people while at a great distance wow I always have seen people do the distance test at a high altitude then come back I never seen nobody actually go a great distance then send their Drome to actually interact with people from that great distance I am amazed

you hit the nail on the head, they call the police every time i lift off

Renata Yea, It returns to launch location if it gets disconnected. Or as soons as the signal recovers you can opt to control it yourself again by cancelling the rth
Could you say where in the video you approx. got the signal back?
They are meant to, but it happened to me after owning mine for 3 days and instead of coming home to me, he flew into the wild to fend for himself 😔 To this day I still have hope that he will come back to me
Jake Fox I think yours has become free range by now :/
Renata hi
You have good videos😂😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Question, when you lost the signal at your buddies house, would the drone come back automatically and land where it was first launched? Just in case remote or phone took a dump.
BTW that was just awesome.
Yes it goes in rth mode
