Since quite a few of you may have never heard of this project, chances are that you are wondering: "What the $@&( is a Shylmagoghnar? Can I eat it?". So let me alleviate your initial shock and confusion by answering those questions in advance: Shylmagoghnar is a word that former founding member Skirge and me (Nimblkorg) came up with during our teens. The both of us chose two syllables which we felt held a specific significance to us personally. Think of a meditative chant, or an incantation. The syllables chosen were Shyl, Nar, Ma and Gogh. We tried several combinations, but kept summoning netherforms by accident, so we ended up going with the safest option.
The proper pronunciation in English is: Shyl sounds like shield, ma, gogh sounds like gog, and nar. [Shiel-ma-gog-nar].
And to answer whether you can eat it: it's been keeping me alive since 2014, so I think so?

Sasha Grey knows all about the gogh gogh and eating part IF YA KNO WOT I’M SAYIN, BOIS. But yeah, it’s an awesome name for an awesome band. I always drop whatever task is at hand to tune in to your new material. My newborn son doesn’t particularly appreciate that about me, but he’ll understand someday.

Another masterpiece. 5 years of waiting for a new album, but it was totally worth the wait. You guys still have this unique sound.
That makes me happy to hear! The essence of a band can be so hard to define, so losing it is one of my worst fears. But with Shylma I always get to a point where the music seems to have a life of its own and all I have to do is to make sure it can be captured in a fitting way. It's very dear to me.
@@Shylmagoghnar you'll never lose this. It'll continue to evolve, some will be disappointed it's not as "heavier" or as "dark" or any other thing that happens as we age and continue to make music. Whatever you make, I'm here for it. I learned listening to Armin Van Buuren that even if my favorite musicians decide to iterate and make different styles of music, it's worth coming back to the well. The last thing any of us needs to be is a 2D human.
I hope you always share you creations, whatever they may be!

Shylmagoghnar is one of those bands that actually take you on a journey with every song. You can't but close your eyes and feel the sound with your whole being. Incredible work, as always.

Vriendelijk dank wederom Ruard! Ik heb je vorige reviews met plezier gelezen, dus kijk alvast uit naar de 3e ronde :D Helaas is Skirge geen deel meer van deze ronde - hij had veel aan zijn hoofd in het dagelijks leven en daardoor niet de creatieve energie die hij nodig had om hieraan te werken. Dus voor dit album is Shylma een solo project. We zullen zien wat de toekomst brengt.

I only discovered Shylmagoghnar a few months ago and have loved the first two albums since; I wasn't expecting new music so this is extremely exciting for me; excellent first track!!!

@@Transilvanian90 Thank you for understanding, and you hit the nail on the head with that. Summoning for example was one of the bands that gave me hope early on that musicians can still reach a respectable audience by simply being good at what they do on their own terms. Same goes for Darkthrone. While I've never been a fan of their work, they've certainly made their mark. Plus, Fenriz managed to get elected with a picture of a cat. Now that's fucking metal!

Shylmagoghnar just manages to capture a sound that is a near perfect balance of what I crave for in the metal genre, it's difficult to explain - every second on this track was just absolute bliss

Thank you, they were recorded around the time of my mother's death, so needless to say, those recording were very fraught with emotion.

I hear emotions inside the song. How did you do it? It's just fantastic!
I'm glad you're feeling that. The song and album was written during a time where I both became father and lost my mother suddenly, which created such a flurry of conflicting emotions that the project became a much needed lightning rod for it. That and three albums worth of experience combined made for something I'm truly glad to be able to share with the world. May it help someone who is going through the same!

I remember finding their 1st album in unknown melodeath site and i had to pick them because their name was so hard to pronounce. Been waiting their 3rd album like crazy. Greets from Finland. This sounds epicly insane.
Thank you, glad you loved it! Haha yes, to this day I'm not sure whether picking that name was a good choice. For better or for worse, people tend to react strongly to it, while to me it's just something weird that my friend Skirge and I came up with when we were 14-year olds with overactive imaginations. I certainly didn't expect to be talking about it to people all over the world two decades later, but I'll take it! Makes me wonder if the same thing happened to Lovecraft and his shenanigans.

Thank you very much! I left you guys waiting for so long that I didn't want to bore you to death with a "new music in 6 months!" message haha. So surprise music it is! And I certainly don't mind that preference - that specific song was very dear to me and probably the one I was happiest about on that album. I think every album has a unique soul which can never be recreated, and I hope that in the future, people will have favorites ranging across all the albums.

I seen this pop up in my UA-cam feed a few weeks ago but have only gotten around to listening to it now. It has been worth the wait since the last release and it's still as musically diverse as ever. It's very reminiscent of Agalloch but that's a good thing. I bought the previous two albums on CD and hope to get this album when it's finally released in full. Keep up the good work!

You know I think there's a distinct style of metal I call "Insomnium" metal, I really love those guys, so as for me you have also a distinct style, I just can't think of the situation where Shylmagoghnar metal is chewable to say. Need to find a word tho. Transient metal?

OMG, can't believe there's new Shylmagoghnar music on the horizon! The first two albums are easily some of the best in the genre and personal favourites of mine! Can't wait!
I hope this one will round out the trilogy nicely for you! All three albums have something distinct about them, but in my mind they are like brothers.

I’ve been waiting for this song for quite some time. Shylmagoghnar has been my favorite art since I discovered it at the time of a major turning point in my life. Transience and emergence both were the catalyst for change within myself, lowering my drawbridge to be able to accept certain aspects of reality and my psyche. Convergence will be the healing between reality and my mental state, I know it. This song already has given me so much clarity and healing, thank you again Nim. A bit dramatic for a UA-cam comment but I know you read these so, thank you from the bottom of my soul for giving me the opportunity to actualize potential within myself. Your music helped me realize this potential

You can hear the marriage of emergence and transience here but there's also new aspects to their songwriting. Judging by this it's a wonderful way to end the trilogy and the video not only stands out but suits the music perfectly. So well balanced, a melodic masterclass.

This atmosphere is incredible, what happened to bands nowadays that drop this type of composition? Does anyone know any band that has this vibe + female vocals? (yes, in the style of Tristania (first albums), Sins of thy Beloved, etc)

Also, not usually with female vocals, but a recent release I loved for its atmosphere was Cân Bardd - Devoured By The Oak. Epic album.

@@Shylmagoghnar Do you remember over 10 years ago? I am active in Metal not so long, one of the first albums was your first album a bought via bandcamp, I think. Long, long time I did not hear from you, I was tearful that you don't make a tour because health problems. The time runs so quickly, but I went as often as possible to tours and festivals, that's my life now!
Shylmagoghnar gets 75% of my play time these days. The new album will bump that number up to 85% at least.

Thank you! Yes, the band seems to have been coasting in that weird space where it's neither underground nor very well known. It's a blessing in disguise, cause with new releases like these there's always a good chance to reach new people who then get to listen to a couple of albums at once, instead of having to wait for years for more.
I've heard the comparison to Amorphis many times before by the way, and I'm ashamed to say that to this day I have still never listened to them. I probably really should...

Since you're responding to all the comments, here's mine too. I accidentally discovered the album "Emergence" way back in 2016. It's the album I've listened to the most in my life. Most likely more than 200 times. I don't mean just one song but the full album.
