- Hello everyone and welcome back to Inside Arsenal.
In today's show I discuss David Ornstein's story that Arsenal are talking to Wolves about a move for goalkeeper Dan Bentley. I also discuss Riccardo Calafiori, Jakub Kiwior and the early exit for Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes for Brazil at the Copa America.

Martinelli should have at least come in at halftime of that match. Endrick looked like the kid that he is and they should have moved Rodrygo to CF and brought Nelli on. They didn't even make their first sub till the match was practically over.
The kiwior situation seems like a tough one. For me, based solely off of last season I'd prefer to keep him over zinny though it seems that him and calafiori operate very similarly. Not only that but then keeping zinchenko gives you another option and style of play. It's a tough call for me but don't think we can be letting kiwior go for any less than 30 mil, would be looking for above 35 though. Keep up the good work Charles!
Would love to move Zini up to midfield to cover for rice and partner Party or Jeorgi in a 2 men midfield. He can be our new El Ney
@@SaksakDuman I think keeping zini and having white who can both invert and in my mind could both potentially do a job at 6 with a lot of other full backs on the squad gives us a lot of options but I wouldn't want arteta messing around too much with something that works...

No one is talking about Rice's double assist to Saka... Not just the pass but his run to create space for Saka to shoot.

kiwior should be our first choice cover at center back and an insurance on left back while zinchenko should be slided as cover in midfield and just insurance at left back during cup games. imagine a zinny-calafiori-kiwior-tomiyasu back four during cup games. league cup and fa cup.

Loan with obligation is fine as it gives us leeway with PSR next season. We'll be fine this season with ESR, Nelson and Nketiah.
Charles, where are getting this "3rd choice goalkeeper" idea?
We don't need 3. The 3rd always an academy prospect. Whoever is replacing Hein as the 1st choice U21 keeper will step up to that role
Kiwior is a potentially exceptional player but he just doesn't seem a personality fit, he just doesn't seem to express himself he always looks so shy and reserved and there's nothing wrong with that generally but for this squad it stands out

How confident are you that arsenal will manage to receive good money for player sales this summer and why is it do you think that this has always been an area which we have struggled with for quite a number of years?
The fact that Juve weren’t able to buy Calafiori really lends itself to Kiwior moving there instead. He must be a backup target for them considering their profiles.
I wouldn’t sell a single player to Juventus. Horrible club who cheat their way through life then beg for cheap deals and pay over four years! Let them rot.

Like you Charles I think signing Bentley (who did come on as a sub in our home game v Wolves) makes a lot of sense. And I also think signing Calafiori makes loads of sense. But it does make me laugh that in a summer where lots of fans were calling for centre forwards and wingers our first 3 signings *could* be 2 keepers and a defender! Never change Mikel!

Because Zinchenko is a shit left back and a bang average midfielder either way he shouldn't be at arsenal.

-we don't play with a two man midfield.
-we don't need an elneny replacement; he was only here last year because he got injured so the club gave him a sympathy extension. He didn't even play.
Charles, do you think Brazil has underestimated the impact our Arsenal boys could’ve had in the Copa America this year? I realize it might’ve been a bit late for you to watch, but it baffles me that their coach opted to play a 17 year old Endrick (in place of Vini Jr. who was suspended) ahead of a proven and fit Martinelli for that match and only subbed him in the dying minutes to basically just take a pen. With all the Euro success our other players have had in Saka, Saliba, etc. it just seems strange both our boys for Brazil rode the bench this whole tournament. Either way, excited that they’ll have a rest and hopefully be back for a full-ish pre-season. It’d be even better if they just stayed in the US for a their holidays (Copa is hosted in the US this year, so they’re already there) and just join up with the Arsenal camp once they hop over.

Bentley seems like smart business on the surface. Seems like the coaches are banking on him being a number 2 if Ramsdale leaves

Hello Charles, i think Saka is great, but at the end of last 2 seasons, he never perfoms his best because we're overplaying him and England as well, we just need to get a great understudy for him. He's great but needs to be protected as well, i really think Pedro Neto is a great solution for that, Charles i don't know what you think, we talk about his injury record but still bagged 11 assists. I don't know, but anyone Arteta trusts i don't care as long we get understudy in Saka's position.
Was it just me or were Andrew and James throwing some shade at you and TNAT on this week’s Arsecast? They seemed very dismissive of the ‘mystery German player’ links.
A shame about Kiwior. I really like him a well. He should get more of an opportunity than Zinchenko tbh.

A bit of a random shout for back up keeper (not that I have a day! 😂), but I've long thought that Jason Steele would be a cheap option for back up to Raya if Ramsdale moves on. He'd be inexpensive, has Premier League experience with Brighton, is used to playing out with his feet, home grown and will understand he's the back up.
Arsenal needs to fix their connection with the academy. Players like Dubery and Walters should have been sent on loan to a prem team last season for gane time and increase their value. This is where Chelsea is far better
Duberry should’ve been promoted to first team from last year and brought on last few mins for Saka.. he’ll tear it up in brighton
@waynemarshall8836 yup.. I said the same thing after the end of 2023 season for both him and Walters or loan them to a prem side that will give them more minutes. Forest, Luton etc Our club will now start losing more and more quality youngsters because there is no connection between academy and first team.

goalkeeper like Dan Bentley or Jason Steele is the perfect number 2, give them games in the cups, maybe even a UCL game here and there, and they should probably be happy, sell Ramsdale for a bit of money and make him happy too, overall I think it's a win for all.
If the only issue with keeping two quality keepers was one not getting game time then that could easily have been solved by regular rotation which originally was what everyone was told when Raya was brought in. That statement fell by the wayside once the dust had settled.

Has to be said and acknowledged, Arteta has completely messed up the keeper position. Just by the throughput number of keepers we have seen under his management shows this is his weakness.

Is it Kiwior that is Califiori dependent? Why not Zinchenko? We have an inverted LB option back in the squad with Timber now. Is it purely that there is interest from Italy for Kiwior?

The way Arsenal work, we sell Ramsdale for £25m and then buy Bentley for £20m. We do not need a "thrid" keeper. Similar with Calafiori we have enough cover in defence, Kiwior should be sould for excess of £40m or keep him, unless Gabriel is leaving. Nelson, Nketiah & Jesus should be moved on, and then get a decent attack minded player - however we are like England, we do not shoot. Too slow to build up, vulnerable to a break, see Villa twice last season.

Charles, if Kivior goes we will be short defensively. If we are going to compete for all trophies we need a big and strong squad like City.

Saka should try shooting a lot more, it has to be his game style like cr7 back then in his utd days or robben trademark finish. Until england conceded he starting shooting and he got a goal after his first try.

On the subject of back up keepers in the event Aaron leaves in this window. With no disrespect to Dan Bentley but in my opinion a Wojciech Szczęsny is a far better option as back up to David Raya than Bentley in the event that Raya picks up an injury that keeps him out for more than a couple of games. No there isn't. The rule is the there are 8 slots reserved for home-grown players. You do not need to fill them.
Arsenal need a proper Striker! Dont forget what we need the most!! Edu and Arteta must focus on Striker positions!
Such a waste of resources and energy over the Goalkeepers position , when there was nothing wrong with Ramsdale . All this distraction is needless , thanks to ARTETA
I don't want us to sell kiwior I'd prefer to sell zinchenko, I think kiwior has improved a lot in the short time he's been with us. And although Poland didn't have a great euros kiwior stood out as being onee of their best players in a poor underachieving team. I was watching him from left back come into midfield when Poland had the ball and it brought a smile to my face you could see the effect of Artetas coaching on him. I think he is only going to get better and I don't see the benefit of selling a player who is on an upward trajectory. He won't be moving to a team where he's going to be first choice. Plus Italian teams almost never pay the transfer fee that the player is worth they always look to low ball teams. I can't see any Italian team paying 25 to 30 million for Kiwior and he's worth it we paid 17. 5 million pounds for him. I'm not against loaning him but selling him snt a great move unless we are going to get 10 million more than we paid for him. And I just can't see any Italian club paying 27 million for a player who's not going to be first choice. So for me it makes no sense I'd rather us sell zinchenko who I feel has reached his ceiling and isn't going to improve much more than we've seen already. Where as kiwior will only get better. Keep him and watch him grow loan him is fine but only sell if we make a v healthy profit on him.
Bentley will be 31 this week and has played 5 PL games in his life … he can’t be a number 2 at a CL /PL chasing club surely… is this link a wind up ?

Kiwior is a left CB and he can back up Gabriel. Signing Calafiori gives us 7 well-tested natural defenders. I don’t see a reason to sell Kiwior except he desires to leave.

I feel Ramsdale is overrated, yes he had a good spell when No.1 but he has shown he is mentally fragile. I don’t think Raya is much better but I’m not the owner. In regard of Jakob Kiwior I think he’s a decent LB but was exposed in certain game I.e Bayern Munich. Zini best position isn’t a LB. Defensively a huge liability. We need to be in market for a certi LB other than Calafori (we need two LB in this summer window).
