01:42 I like the addition of the butterfly symbolism over just bats, not sure if it's an intentional choice . If memory serves, Sava Savanovic, the most famous vampire pre-dating the Dracula adaptation (and as such, being more of the OG vampire than Vlad), was associated with butterflies. His soul would fly out of one when killed improperly (since the proper way to get rid of a vampire involves locking them, not killing them), and the cursed mill he haunted had a bunch of them. Nice to see that return to the classics. The actual classics, not the Irish 'Varney the Vampire' fan who popularised it. It'd be nice if we got a reference to Valvasor, but he's about three hundred years later, so little chance for that.
The Strigoi is the first version of what later became known as a Vampire. Sava Savanović is from Serbian folklore, but isn't as old as the myth of the Strigoi. The story of Sava Savanović though was written in 1880 by Serbian novelist Milovan Glišić. Bram Stoker's Dracula came out in 1897, so not that much younger.
@@My-Name-Isnt-Important Yup, had to check my book to find the dates, and you're correct. The story of Sava is older, but was only written down in 1880, book called "After Ninety Years." In my defense: been a while since I read up on Slavic myths. Only have the one book, and didn't get farther than halfway the section on werewolves. Looking forward to the Perun stuff, though. Only seen that in videogames, too, curious how much of it is 'genuine.' On that note, if the creators of this game are going that far for their inspiration, where will werewolves fit into this, I wonder. We gonna get a look at Vuk at some point, maybe?

I have a feeling that's gonna happen. Witcher 3 was so amazing and the people who did that are the ones making this game. The witcher 4 ... still a question mark.
The main strength of The Witcher is in its well-written characters even before the game, even if it is finally made into a walking simulator, it will be difficult to surpass such a layer of ready-made lore and history.

As they discussed in their reveal video, the young man is Coen. In this game, vampires are made by pushing one of their needle-like teeth into the heart of their progeny to turn them. However, due to Coen being a silver miner, he accumulated silver poisoning. As a vampire, it weakens him but at the same time the silver keeps him from fully turning, allowing him to walk in daylight. Basically, medieval Blade, in a sense.
@bestpcgaming7454 same it's a good thing a large percentage of them are working on TW4 and a few of them are working on this. 2 games from great developers should be celebrated not trashed based on weird online agendas that have nothing to do with either game

Seems a little weird for the king to be taking an interest in taking out plague spreaders personally. Especially since vampires are a thing apparently. Dude had balls, but he clearly learned _nothing_ from Arthas.
Maybe he got satisfaction from killing people himself, we don't know this character yet, it wasn't his first time. They set the whole village on fire, more people died.
Probably not the "king" king but a local king. Fiction put many misconceptions about the real structure of feudalism, especially in earlier medieval period.
@@wrongthinker843like a baron or count maybe. Would be cool to see like a kingdom hierarchy in the game where you can the change in power when you kill someone
It's part of the story. The vampires are "saving" the regular folks from their lord's, but also treat them like cattle. The aristocrats are scum, but still human at the end of the day. The main character has to choose between them.
The make or break for me is the 'narrative sandbox' concept they're proposing. A normal sandbox game had a fixed main story but you have unlimited time in the world to do whatever you want. This game you have a fixed 30 days and nights, and each time you do a quest it goes from day to night or night to day. Instead you can do any quests in any order you want for total narrative freedom. So how that's implemented, and the effort put into it, will make or break this game. It could be a super detailed and indepth system where your choices effect how other quests play out and what quests are available, and completely change the ending you get. Or it could essentially just be a bunch of disconnected quests / quest chains, and you either get the 'sided with vampires' ending or the 'sided with humans' ending. Obviously one actually encourages a lot of replayability and the idea your choices matter, while the other is lazy dog shit people might play twice but that's about it.
people should watch the video from devs themselves talking about the game : >narrative sandbox, they see how people are STILL PLAYING WITCHER 3 to this day and wants to make a game in which your decisions shape the map and the story for replayability >the whole story is 30 days until your save or not your family, they say they want "quests" not side or main meaning only the "story ones" can speed the days but the side ones can give you new characters >the world is an east europe society with plagues, social division and bad rulers like the trailer, but the campires this "good rulers" manipulate the people into revolt and into being use as cattle so is a grey narrative in which your decisions affects this two factions >the protagonist is half vampire so he can get hungry and kill a MAIN CHARACTER or friend if you dont drink enough before doing the missions >you cant use the vampire powers in the day so you get a sword, but in the night even with powers you have a lot of hard enemies and i guess a lot of patrols like the trailer i think thats it and the devs say they want creative freedom meaning is not butcher by . . . The asian fat vampire is also cool and then there is this knight who was turned into a vampire spawn of this elder. Love it.
No, the Mongol is the only one and that makes sense considering there were some Mongols in these areas in small hordes during the 14th century that were left behind after most of them retreated back to Asia by that time after their great 13th century conquests into Eastern Europe had ended. Brencis, the female vampire and the blond haired one are all Europeans.

The story of Sava is older, but was only written down in 1880, book called "After Ninety Years."
In my defense: been a while since I read up on Slavic myths. Only have the one book, and didn't get farther than halfway the section on werewolves. Looking forward to the Perun stuff, though. Only seen that in videogames, too, curious how much of it is 'genuine.'
On that note, if the creators of this game are going that far for their inspiration, where will werewolves fit into this, I wonder. We gonna get a look at Vuk at some point, maybe?
I had my screen brightness low so I didn’t see the butterfly the first time. Nice detail

Obviously one actually encourages a lot of replayability and the idea your choices matter, while the other is lazy dog shit people might play twice but that's about it.
people should watch the video from devs themselves talking about the game :
>narrative sandbox, they see how people are STILL PLAYING WITCHER 3 to this day and wants to make a game in which your decisions shape the map and the story for replayability
>the whole story is 30 days until your save or not your family, they say they want "quests" not side or main meaning only the "story ones" can speed the days but the side ones can give you new characters
>the world is an east europe society with plagues, social division and bad rulers like the trailer, but the campires this "good rulers" manipulate the people into revolt and into being use as cattle so is a grey narrative in which your decisions affects this two factions
>the protagonist is half vampire so he can get hungry and kill a MAIN CHARACTER or friend if you dont drink enough before doing the missions
>you cant use the vampire powers in the day so you get a sword, but in the night even with powers you have a lot of hard enemies and i guess a lot of patrols like the trailer
i think thats it and the devs say they want creative freedom meaning is not butcher by . . . Sweet Baby I GUESS
